James Bond in Australia

I've noticed that James Bond has never taken a trip to Australia before, yet we have some nice locations to do at least a few scenes. He could Even drive the uniquely Australian, Ford Falcon.

BRADY you prve me wrong...I apologize.! lets all look forward to the next BOND 24 in which bond tracks down petty criminals in Australia for booze relatyed offfenses!

More like corrupt government officials and embassy employees.
  • I would love to see Bond finally come down under, providing the story matched. There is many criminals in Australia, although, it doesn't matter if there wasn't as Bond villains are created in fiction.

I'm sure Bond has gone down under many times ;)

In all seriousness though Australia would make a good location. I have visited and there are some wonderful places both urban and natural.

Sorry for going off topic, but are Christartos' posts just automatically being deleted now? I keep seeing him in quotes but not the actual thread- on the rare photo thread as well. If so, good.

But yeah I'd love to see Bond in Australia- that's a wonderful place with lot of potential! Have you ever looked at Australia on Google Earth? There's so much wild untouched land- there could be anything out there. I could actually believe there was a villains enormous lair out there undiscovered, you know?

    Welcome to the boards @Monaro.
Bond should come 'down under' oneday. Hopefully to Perth, as it has never been seen on the big screen. Sydney and Melbourne have always got the limelight. But Perth is a hidden gem.
Confused over your screen name and car choice.
Are you a Ford or a Holden man?
    ;)

Haha, yeh, I'm a Holden man, but the franchise is being funded by the Ford group so I thought I'd be a little realistic. Besides, it would be a real boost to ford aus who are going to axe the Falcon, its survival would be a good thing to Holden too.

As for criminals in Australia, well there's plenty of space for SPECTRE to build a world ending device and go unnoticed.

It's been talked about before, but it is a mystery maybe why we haven't seen Bond in Australia hitherto, as it's such an interesting country, and there'd be real scope to film in say Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide for example. This has to come to pass sooner or later you would imagine, and I hope I get to see it. Picture now, some great Bond battle with some evil adversary with the Sydney Opera House involved. It's something I really hope to see one day. Bond indulges in a Fosters beverage..

I'd love Australia as I've mentioned before.

And we have at least two good threads on locations for Bond movies:
What country would you like a Bond movie to feature in? and Location, Location, Location I think Australia is discussed on both.

I don't know how to insert a thread link; sorry!! I need to learn ...

I agree, Bond definitely needs to come Down Under. Have a look at these threads for more discussion:

I seem to recall hearing once that you lived in Australia, @QBranch.
  • I do wonder if there is many other Australians in this community?
Not many that I'm aware of. Shadow was one of our best participants but is no longer active, then there's Benny, and I'm struggling now. Doubtless there are many others out there, so maybe an opportunity to stand up and be recognized ?

There is however as mentioned, other threads that can accomodate (James Bond in Australia) as part of 'where would you like to see Bond featured', but merely tried to answer the last response

Yep, sure do, 0Brady. I lived in Queensland for most of my life, but now I'm down south in Adelaide. I'm pretty sure there's a fair few Aussies on the forum.

Let's get Bond in the Outback. He's been in the desert before (TSWLM; QoS), so I'm sure they can come up with a good reason to once again have him somewhere remote. Let's take Bond out to the reef for an underwater sequence, or somehow involve him in a boat chase while the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race is on.

I'm an Australian, i live near Sydney :) i think it would be good to have Bond in Australia but i think it would be better if Australia be one of the numerous locations bond visits in the movie like the Bahamas in Casino Royale or France in Thunderball, and not the main location.
  • sandn119 I agree on that statement. Have you read the Raymond Benson Bond edition 'Zero Minus Ten'? It is a fairly interesting read, and Bond comes to Australia towards the end of the novel in order to uncover a major component of the plot. I would enjoy something to that degree, only done much more stylishly. By the way, I live in Dubbo, out in the middle of the central West. Not a very exotic location for a Bond film :-))

I would die if we got a fight on the Sydney Opera House, where Bond was sliding all over the architecture to get at a baddie or henchman. 8->

Skyfall007silva No i haven't yet but it sounds like a worthwhile read, i agree that does sound like a good idea for a bond film, and yes it definitely would have to be stylish! it has always amazed me how in 50 years and in 23 bond films not a single location in australia was used, perhaps for Bond 24 (which im dying for a snow sequence with Craig) they could have him in the Snow in NZ for a part of the film which might give the producers an excuse to make a quick flight over to australia and film something lol :D

Australia could easily be a viable location for Bond; here is an idea for the prospect….

If for example an actor like Guy Pearce could be cast as an old hand “Spook”, and Bond is in Australia to set-up a meeting with him to gather some intelligence, on a case he has a long history in trying to solve.

His old friend could invite him out on a game fishing boat to catch marlin, where during their trip they are photographed by old adversaries spying on what is suppose to be a plain sight but less than obvious clandestine meeting.

As there are others taking an interest in the two spies keeping company, Bond and his intelligence friend realise they are being tracked and need to get out of the country and separate until a future meeting can be established in another part of the globe.

A visit to Australia would open up some fast boat action scene possibilities especially in an area like Sydney harbour and put another stamp on the 007 passport.
  • I really love that idea of Bond sliding over the opera house after an assasin :D I want a boat chase across the Harbour. Snow action in NZ? I like this idea very much.

They could do a Max Zorin type tribute (death) at the Sydney Harbor Bridge with the lead villain, whoever it will be
