Skyfall wins Best British Film and Best Original Score at BAFTA

After Bond movies winning just one BAFTA award in the last 50 years (Best Cinematography-Ted Moore From Russia With Love (1963). Skyfall won Best British film and Thomas Newman won the best score award.

Very well deserved.

Well done Thomas Newman. Skyfall is not better than John Barry's Bond scores but still an excellent score. The best of a strong 2012 IMO!!

It's nominated in 8 categories so may be more to come later this evening.

By the way the ceremony is over, SF won 2 out of 8, not bad.

I love the way we Brits make up categories just to make sure we'll get a gong. British fair play in action! No wonder the rest of the world thinks we're cheats.

And the Oscar for best American film goes to...? Nope, ain't never gonna happen because the Americans actually have a bit more class.
  • I'm glad Skyfall won Best Picture & Original Score. At least it's getting recognition at the BATFA's. Every year the American film critics overlook Bond films at the Oscar's,

Congrats to Skyfall and Mr. Newman, so deserved. "Tennyson" still gives me the chills and a smile every time I hear it.

By the way, considering that Eva Green won the Rising Star BAFTA for Casino Royale, doesn't that count as a win for the film?

    Well said.

Congrats to Thomas Newman but the other one is a joke on two counts:

    1. As Getafix said wtf is best British picture except a pathetic pat on the back for not being good enough to get a best picture nod (and incidentally how is SF beating Les Mis to Best British Picture but its not good enough to get nominated for Best Picture overall which Les Mis was? Laughable).

    2. What constitutes a British picture anyway? I would say not a film that is bankrolled by a major Hollywood studio myself.

Best British Picture seems like an almost made up award just so SF didn't go home empty handed. Pretty pathetic to be honest.

I don't think the world series and super bowl are open to other countries and yet their playing for a world title. So what's up with the bitterness and attitude of who's cheating and has more class?

Aren’t certain types of films downgraded automatically because of the genre anyway, so it doesn’t matter how good a film is, politics dictates whether or not it will get recognition when it come to winning the big gong.
  • Fair play to Skyfall in getting the recognition it deserves. Good to see that whilst some can take a negative stance against a very definable British institution whilst insulting Britishness, I amongst many others appreciate the gesture shown towards the hard work made in ensuring a Bond picture befitting of the film franchise we should all be proud of.

    Indeed it can @Sandy.
No need to have two threads covering the same subject.
The +1 brigade would have a field day.

Please continue in the thread as linked above.
    Thanks.
