    in the UK sorry.
  • Ughhh FINALLY a more realistic prediction from BoxOfficeMojo regarding the worldwide gross for 'Skyfall' 8-| :

    http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3566&p=.htm:
BoxOfficeMojo: "Rolling in its domestic earnings, Skyfall has already earned $518.6 million worldwide, and it will pass Casino Royale's record $599 million by the end of the week. Using some very modest projections for the existing markets and the upcoming ones (China, Japan and Australia), it's likely that Skyfall will ultimately earn over $900 million worldwide."

Told ya. 'Skyfall' IS today's 'Thunderball', especially money-wise.

Moreover, FINALLY that way too old, but still very good, Bond flick 'Goldfinger' is in danger of being put on 3rd place by 'Skyfall'...on the list of inflation adjusted grosses.

I'm think a lot of credit has to be level at Sony as there release strategy was so well timed. It was release in some markets such as the UK 3 weeks before any other major blockbuster leading it to cannibalise the market place. Also the ad and marketing campaign can make or break a movie it seems this year in particular as a brilliant marketing campaign from disney and sony have propel Skyfall and the Avengers to levels way above what was expected.

And here my prediction for the year 2012 in comparison with the three previous 'Bond years'. *UPDATED NOVEMBER 12TH 2012*:

So here I go again then, for 2012 the TOP 5 will finally include a James Bond film:
    01) $1,511,757,910 'The Avengers'
    02) $1,200,000,000 'The Hobbit' (Allthough I hope it narrowly beats 'The Avengers')
    03) $1,080,516,699 'The Dark Knight Rises'
    04) $ 900,000,000 'Skyfall'
    05) $ 872,284,020 'Ice Age: Continental Drift'
    06) $ 800,000,000 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2'
    07) $ 752,216,557 'The Amazing Spider-Man'
    08) $ 734,291,482 'Madagascar 3'
    09) $ 686,533,290 'The Hunger Games'
    10) $ 624,026,776 'Men In Black III'

And the past three Bond films:

    2008:
    1) 'The Dark Knight'
    2) 'Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull'
    3) 'Kung Fu Panda'
    4) 'Hancock'
    5) 'Mamma Mia'
    7) 'Quantum Of Solace'

    2006:
    1) 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'
    2) 'The Da Vinci Code'
    3) 'Ice Age: The Meltdown'
    4) 'Casino Royale'
    5) 'Night At The Museum'

    2002:
    1) 'The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers'
    2) 'Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets'
    3) 'Spider-Man'
    4) 'Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones'
    5) 'Men In Black II'
    6) 'Die Another Day'

Some early conclusions we can draw already:
--> Just like 'Casino Royale' did before in 2006, James Bond will most certainly be in the TOP 4 again of yearly worldwide (US included) box office results with 'Skyfall'.
--> James Bond will most certainly beat Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' in my 'Comparable Franchise List' when looking at the worldwide box office gross. TOP 3 is almost certain.
--> With inflation adjustment correction over 2012 prices, James Bond will improve his own outings in 'The Spy Who Loved Me', 'You Only Live Twice' and 'Live And Let Die' with his latest adventure 'Skyfall'. Moreover, it has a shot at threatening 'Goldfinger' and 'Thunderball'.
--> When looking at international gross (US excluded) James Bond will most certainly beat 'The Dark Knight', 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol', 'Hancock', 'Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal' and has a shot of overtaking 'Inception' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'.
--> James Bond will never die. Bruce Wayne (Batman), Jason Bourne, Ethan Hunt (MI), Indy Jones, Sherlock Holmes...I really suggest you take a deep bow for James Bond ;-).

GG there is glaring mistake in this chart of bond films as it is domestic gross in those years. As WW Casino royal was the 4th biggest grosser of 2006 behind ice age 2, the da vinci code and pirates 2?

Thanks mate. I corrected my figures. I forgot that the 2008, 2006 and 2002 list were solely based on USA figures. Stupid me hehe :-P.

Thats okay i thought 9th in 2006 was very low for a film that grossed nearly $600 mil in a time before 3d. Also in your list which would you rank in your top 5 in terms of quality?

You mean....Bond films only? Or the entire TOP 39 list PLUS the lists from 2012, 2008, 2006 and 2002??

QUALITY wise! By jolly man.....that's a huge task :-/. A TOP 15 okay for now?? It's a TOP 15 of best quality movies out of my TOP 39, Bond and non-Bond:

    01) 'The Dark Knight' (2008) - Antagonist of historical proportions!
    02) 'Skyfall' (2012) - Memorable villain!
    03) 'The Bourne Ultimatum' (2007) - Best of the four Bourne films
    04) 'Casino Royale' (2006) - As a Bond movie better than SF, but overall as a movie SF is better!
    05) 'Inception' (2010) - Terrific though complex 'dream-rollercoaster' with good drama
    06) 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' (2011) It has the Burj Khalifa! Best M:I-movie!
    07) 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' (2011) THIS is a true espionage film!
    08) 'Batman Begins' (2004) - Still better than 'TDKR'
    09) 'Mission: Impossible III (2006) - Great villain!
    10) 'The Dark Knight Rises' (2012) - Good movie, but overhyped.
    11) 'Live Free Or Die Hard' (2007) - Best of the Die Hard franchise!
    12) 'Quantum Of Solace' (2008) - Jason Bourne rip-off. Sorry.
    13) 'Ronin' (1998) - Best carchase ever since 'Bullitt'. Even Bond cannot match it.
    14) 'The Bourne Identity' (2002) - Great remake of the TV Movie classic
    15) 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' (2008) - Just very entertaining

I agree with some of the list but indy 4 and QOS i felt where awful especially Indy 4 i was so excited for that and it was an awful movie.

    1) The Dark Knight (2008) - Best blockbuster of the 2000s to good for words lol!
    2) Inception (2010) - Amazing effects story everything about it. The most thought provoking blockbuster on a large scale since the Matrix!
    3) The dark knight rises (2012) - considering the out of this world hype it was the best it could ever be Tom hardy is amazing in it!
    4) Casino Royale (2006)- Amazing film preferred it to skyfall as i think it's not to dark like Skyfall is in parts.
    5) Skyfall (2012)- was never likely to be bad with Sam Mendes directing!
    6) Batman Begins (2005) - The best reboot ever although was a bit boring like all origin stories.
7)'The Bourne Ultimatum' (2007) - Fitting end to a great trilogy.
8)The Bourne Supermacy (2004)- One of best sequels of modern times.
    9) Mission Imossible 4 (2011) - Could not get over how good this is expected it to be dire! Then again Brad bird is an amazing director.
    10) 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' (2011)- Loved it
    11) The Bourne Identity (2002)- Great film shame about the camera lol.
    12) Ronin (1998) - Amazing film staring the best actor ever a.k.a de niro
13)'Mission: Impossible III (2006) - Not the best but a decent movie.
    14) 'Live Free Or Die Hard' (2007) - Amazing action scenes.
15)Sherlock holmes 1 (2009)- I just love Robert downey Jnr

I admit DKR is probably to high but i just love Christopher nolan films lol!

Daniel Craig has said this would be a return to the classic Bond. I am expecting to see the return of Q, gadgets, the Aston Martin, a larger than life villain and "all the ingredients of a classic Bond movie," as Sam Mendes has stated. In other words, the producers are determined to give audiences what they want to see from a Bond movie after the disappointing reception to the last movie. You have every right to think that does not make it more of a popcorn movie.

It wont be a popcorn movie. Its just not in Craigs or Mendes nature to make a popcorn movie. Their brain automatically kicks in. There will be exploring Bonds psyche because that's the kind of thing which interests them (and me). Also, with
    Judis last one
they are going to wring every last opportunity to use her and her character.

There will be the Bond "crutches" ie Q, Aston Martin etc but those expecting another Moonraker are going to be sorely disapointed.

You forget one big thing: Sam Mendes, Barbara Broccoli, Michael G. Wilson and Daniel Craig not only made a hugely entertaining popcorn movie, they also made a serious espionage thriller with underlying political themes (Please read my other topic: http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/4593/skyfall-has-a-political-theme.-please-let-us-discuss-this-underappreciated-part-of-cinema.#Item_2).

If you can do that, if you can not only please the popcorn addicts, but also many more (BoxOfiicemojo already found out that the average age of people who have seen 'Skyfall' is higher than the previous two films), including young Bond nerds and older Bond fans, then that is a start of a boxoffice success many people don't dare to predict.

'Skyfall' will break records. Mark my words. Because there is really no good reason not to see this movie.

By the way, the adjusted figures for the US weekend opening were just published (courtesy BoxOfficemojo):
    --> $ 088,364,714 -- USA Weekend Opening 'Skyfall' (Friday, Saturday & Sunday)
--> $ 090,564,714 -- USA Weekend Opening 'Skyfall' (Thursday IMAX screenings, Friday, Saturday & Sunday)
    --> $ 519,164,714 -- Worldwide Box Office Total 'Skyfall' (as of November 12th 10:00 PM GMT+1)

  • Hmmm, read this: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3568&p=.htm
As expected, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 got off to a very impressive start last night. The fifth and final installment in the perennial franchise grossed an estimated $30.4 million from midnight and 10 p.m. Thursday showtimes, which is slightly higher than the midnight-only grosses for Breaking Dawn Part 1 ($30.25 million) and Eclipse ($30.1 million). It's also noticeably better than New Moon's $26.3 million.

Very good, but certainly not a $35 million I was expecting on opening night.....Let's see how it goes for 'Twilight'.

Word of mouth is astonishing, and when a critic in the UK like Mark Kermode who is very popular, praises SF as the saviour of the franchise, well it can only mean one thing.

All my friends and relatives who have no real interest in Bond are desperate to see it. And when they do 95% of them love it.

I too @NicNac, know people who aren't fans of Bond watching this film and loving it. A 'thriller' many are calling it. That makes me happy.

For the first time in many a year, the future and what is possible looks so, so bright. Plus we may only have to wait two years to see it. I'm very excited.

I am starting to think it is really time to return Ernst Stavro Blofeld. John Logan always said he wanted to bring him back. And now EON got the rights for SPECTRE and Blofeld again, it's time to bring back SPECTRE full throttle. Perhaps the new SPECTRE will have a big boardroom in the Sears Tower in Chicago? I can already think of a great scene where behinf the big board table, one guy gets killed with a combination of aggressive salpeteracid and cyanide. Would love to see his face 'crumble' in a horrific way...

    Skyfall UK Box Office

Skyfall is locked to become the highest grossing movie of all time in the UK.
It is on course to be the first movie to crack 100 million pounds in the UK.
It looks likely to DOUBLE the UK gross of Quantum of Solace!

I am quite certain now the $900 million is in reach now:

    $669.2 million worldwide (current standings)
$115.0 million China (prediction, China heavily featured in the film)
    $ 48.0 million Australia (prediction)
$ 6.0 million New Zealand (prediction)
$ 37.0 million Japan (prediction, less than 'M:I - GP' by the way)
    +
TOTAL UNTIL THEN: $875.2 MILLION WORLDWIDE (PREDICTION)
at least $ 24.8 million all other nations in the world except China, Australia, New Zealand & Japan
    +
TOTAL AT LEAST $ 900.0 MILLION WORLDWIDE (PREDICTION)
