Skyfall, past Bond references???

    Haven't read the entire thread, but here are some "references" to other movies:

    - names of secret agents operating revealed: Mission Impossible
    - Komodo Dragon: Star Wars
    - Bond looking over London: Batman (looking over Gotham City)
    - MI6 cage: Silence of the Lambs
    - Skyfall lodge: Home Alone/ Straw Dogs

    Maybe it was a good idea afterall, that they left out the Indiana Jones-scene.

    Really liked that one, a reference but not nostalgic and more "don't ruin this mission like that other douche did".

    Two things I've been thinking: The "exploding pen" line was a blatant GoldenEye reference but a touch odd as that's a well regarded entry and a decent gadget. When watching the film I first thought of the pen gun in NSNE!

    More pressingly, in Kim Newman's empire review he mentions there's a reference to the 1967 CR. Anyone spotted this yet, or did I fall asleep during Woody Allen bit?

    Did anyone get the reference to the Buretta - at the begining of Dr No Bond is told the gun is light enough for a woman's handbag or something like that.

    I don't know if anyone mentioned this, and I'm not sure if you can consider it a reference. But before Q leaves Bond with his new gadgets he says something like, "Do try to bring the equipment in one piece." A line which is similar to what Q says in several of the movies when equipping Bond with gadgets.

    Not sure if it was deliberate, but the scene in which Bond was looking for Patrice in the glass walls of the hotel/building (with his gun cocked ready to fire) reminded me a lot of TMWTGG.

    Did anyone notice at the scene where silva is tied to the statue that the bottle of scotch says 1962 referencing Dr.No I saw it yesterday (the first day it came out in the US)

    Couldn't have been. China didn't take over Hong Kong until 1997, which would have been 5-6 years after the attempted third Dalton film. Also, the year TND came out.

    TSWLM: Silva pulling out his dentures
    MR: Patrice falling to his death.
    FYEO: Silva having a knife thrown into his back
    OP: Fight on top of the train
    AVTAK: Shower scene
    TLD: Patrice as the sniper
    LTK: Signature hand gun
    GE: Fallen statues at compound
    TND: Writing Bond's obituary
    TWINE: Explosion at MI6
    DAD: "You must be joking"
    CR: Bond being tied to the chair and breaking into M's house
    QOS: "Be careful what you wish for"

    I know, I know, some of these might be a stretch.

    In my opinion, we should have the distinction between reference and connection, the former being intentional and the latter unintentional because they belong to the common knowledge of Bond.
    For example:
    - references: "you must be joking", the ejector seat, exploding pen.
    - connection: signature hand gun, shower scene, fight in top of the train, scorpion, Istambul, ecc.

    Not a reference to a previous Bond film, but definitely a nod to the 50th anniversary of the series: "50 year old Macallan. A particular favourite of yours I understand."

    I thought Bond setting Traps in his house was a reference to the Pierce Brosnan movie "Live Wire." Pierce sets up similar traps to kill bad guys.

    In "Goldfinger" Q says, with regard to the DB5 "we'd appreciate you bringing it back, along with all your other equipment. Intact for once when you return from the field."

    Not to mention Desmond's Q constantly asks for the equipment to be brougt back in pristine condition.

    I look forward in Bond 24 or wherever to have Bond bring back a broken gadget and to have Q completely devastated. Their relationship has the chance to be very funny

    Give us a break, people are just desperately looking for references. Somewhere, someone said there are references to the old films to hype it up on the web and now everyone is looking for them... its called clever marketing.
    He said this, she said that, i've never read so much rubbish.

    I thought it was fitting that Mallory drank cognac in his first scene with Judi because it seemed like a reference to the Goldeneye scene where Bond tells her that her predecessor kept some cognac in his office, where as she preferred bourbon. I only wish that in SF when Judi goes home to find Bond still alive that she had been drinking bourbon instead of the same Courvoisier which Mallory had been drinking. Only then did it become apparent it was product placement. They missed an opportunity their really because they could have advertised Makers Mark or something and still kept some series continuity.

    -Bond jumping off from a crocodile.... reference to Live and Let Die...
    -Scorpion... that is definitely a reference as he is taunting death with it, and it was used to kill in DAF.
    -Palm Reading Gun... LTK
    -DB5... Obviously GF, Thunderball
    -"You must be joking" - Reference to Goldfinger.
    -Bond being issued PPK - Maybe a reference to Dr. No.

    Oh.... and the office at the end. "M's" Classic office from all of Sean Connery's Bond Movies. Leather covered door... coat rack at Moneypenny's office...

    Some of these aren't references. Simply common action. Bond getting his PPK isn't a reference to anything. He needs his gun, someone must give it to him. There is only that action and that action alone.

    Mate, none of these make any sense. Where the hell are komodo dragons in Star Wars? Did Lucas recently edit them in or something, or are we all cracked? Bond looking over London is just simply him looking over London, and not a Batman ripoff. They aren't remotely the same. So every time a character stands and looks at a city they are ripping off Batman? HAR HAR. I won't even touch on the Home Alone thing, as that is just too unworthy of the time.

    This thread is fun. I just have a couple to add.

    Opening credits, the first glimpse of a female looking over her shoulder underwater - looks very much like Vesper in CR.

    TWINE - personal vendetta against M.

    I like the "pit of some animal", this one happens to be a Komodo dragon. YOLT has the piranhas, I forget the other times that this happens in Bond films.

    I also like his line about how he knows what a woman looks like who is scared and is trying to conceal it. Definitely a Vesper reference there.

    I came online looking for references and found a ton on here. Keep it up, this is fun.

    The stag statue on the gateposts of Skyfall seems identical to that seen in the garden of the house in Thunderball from which Bond escapes by jetpack.

    I dont 't know whether anyone has already mentioned this because its so obvious, but near the beginning of Skyfall when bond steps out of the shadows and only his eyes are in the light. This is pretty clearly linked with the bond opening credits of Casino Royale just at the end when they block out everything but his eyes.
    Also, not sure if mentioned already, but when bond hands in those bullet fragments to Tanner and says "For her eyes only".

    I wouldn't say that's a CR reference, just good cinematography and tension build up.

    The gun was shown being given to do that LTK reference. That's just my thoughts on it.
