    Idris Elba will be too old by the time Daniel Craig is done with the role. And he is black.

    the day bond turns black, i am not a fan. not racsist or anything, it will just end my loyalty to the franchise.

    Has anyone thought though, he could make a great villian. !!

    I'm sure theres a thread for a black Bond, female Bond, gay Bond if you really feel the need to discuss this hoary old chestnut but for the record I'm with Gareth00789 all the way here.

    Dear bored,

    I put this in the news section because a leading UK film magazine and one of the stars of the new Bond film stated that one of the producers of said new Bond film was talking to an actor (black or white or brown) to be the next Bond. It is news and that's it. I just put my red top hat on and posted it.

    I'd like to see if the basis of that article pops up again in future articles e.g. did Broccoli meet with Elba pre-Casino Royale? OR recently etc? Plus how do we know that she met with him about the role of Bond - how about the villain (influenced by his role in The Wire perhaps) in Bond 24, or perhaps the role of Felix Leiter (as I would cast him as).

    If this was seriously being considered, then why not go the whole way and make him female then? or american, or french? In fact, why not just ask Mike Myers to come in and really change it forever?

    Any of the above would make the relevance to the character just as pointless as changing his race or creed. It would end the franchise as it is.

    There wasn't the clamour to make Indiana Jones female becuase it just doesnt fit. This doesnt fit either.

    What a joke! Someone must have seriously misquoted Naomie Harris, or overheard the irony.
    Probably they´ll take him as one of the next villains, which is great! He´s marvellous.

    Babs on a few occasions recently and by recently I mean less than 2 weeks ago has gone on record saying, when it comes to Bond, especially Daniel, it's like a marriage, you're not looking for your next husband. Babs isn't looking at anyone as the next Bond. On top of that, Elba will be too old by the time Craig is done with the role and Elba is a black man!!! I'm black myself as you can see in my pic and I don't want to see a black Bond.

    Elba being a villain would be awesome though!! His Stringer Bell was superb.

    We've had Celtic Bonds and Anglo Saxon Bonds before now. I have no problem with a black actor playing Bond *at all*. As long as he's playing a 30-something British secret agent who got kicked out of Eton at the age of thirteen, etc, etc. I think his race would recognised as irrelevant in an instant if the actor frickin' nailed it. I do have a problem with Idris Elba as Bond though, LOL.

    Don Warrington would have made an interesting Bond back in the day. These days he'd make a great Bond villain. :-)

    If Wright is prepared to return as Leiter maybe Idris could take over, I'm not sure how I feel about a black Bond, it is a touchy subject but I feel somewhere down the line it will happen.

    I wonder how black people would feel about a white Shaft? The problem is that some would call it racist to not want a black man play Bond but this is not the character that Fleming wrote and we would have to see a considerable change for this to work one which would see Bond becoming less like Bond like.

    Some have a problem with an English actor with blonde hair playing the part, heaven know what kind of reaction we'd get if Elba was cast, for the record I'm a big fan of the man but for Bond?

    Puff Daddy goes on about this and thinks Denzel Washington would make a good Bond, at least pick a British actor Diddy will you. As I said there would be all hell to pay if we suggested Jason Statham played Shaft or we remade In The Heat of The Night and cast
    Jude Law as Mr Tibbs.

    Bond is white it's not racist it's just a fact.

    On reflection I agree with Samuel here. Many times we have debated the black Bond issue, and this isn't about that, it's about Elba as a suitable Bond actor. Therefore follow the link.

    Apologies to @forgotmyusername because he simply linked a news item, but I can see where this is going, and we have debated it umpteen times.
