Yeah, Craig is similar to Dalton there, he's strong and everything but he does make mistakes and he does hurt.

I don't think he's the best but I agree he's the most relatable Bond.

Not quite straightened out, just given the typical responce.

You're quite the funny guy Major. Typical for who? I don't think anyone in less than a extremely biased stance, including people who don't like CR, would see even a remote comparison to Vesper and Jinx in terms of effectiveness of character, overall dialogue, or much of anything else for that matter. Night and day.

Now I didn't say Vesper was worse than Jinx, I said that Jinx was bad but so was Vesper. If I had to rank them, I would put Vesper x ammount of places above Jinx. But I still would put Vesper alongside Kara, Domino & Melina as one of my favourites. Vesper (or to be precise, Eva Green) is attractive, but the character doesn't grab me in the same way as the 3 I listed.

  • @BradyM0Bondfanatic7 But Bond isn't a normal human being. The man should be a walking plague of STD's suffering from heart problems who would've gotten kicked out of MI6 for being a drunk years ago :))

Seriously though, he isn't normal, he's a highly trained agent. He's had years of experience to cope with death. It makes sense for Craig in CR and QOS to feel guilty about Fields for example, because he's the rookie, and it makes sense if it's a character like Tracy or Felix in earlier films. But if some random girl he shagged dies in earlier Bond films, he's been trained not to get too emotionally attatched. And alot of that was thanks to Vesper in CR.
@ TLR- You would say that. Not that Bond and Pam didn't wind up having some chemistry and eventually develop something good, but that boat kiss felt way more clunky and rushed. If you're someone who hadn't read CR, you wouldn't know how significant Vesper would be in Bond's life. You knew how Bond and Pam was going to be. Bond/Kara was better done, like with Vesper something builds between them and isn't telegraphed.

You're right, I am biased, LTK is my all time favourite after all, but I just prefer Dalton and Lowells chemistry, and I love Daltons look when Pam has abetter gun than him. Kiss didn't feel rushed to me.

And yes, I have read CR.

Your response to O'Brady was both funny and well said. It definitely makes sense to me that rookie Bond would care more compared to later years. As we see in later films, he does learn that overly emotional attachments can cloud his judgment and that death is a big part of his job.

I know you are biased towards Dalton, I completely understand and appreciate that as you by now are aware. But they go from screaming at the other one minute to kissing and heading below deck. It's not realistic in terms of human nature. People who don't immediately like the other don't get together that fast. Vesper and Kara build very naturally and believably.

And I don't think, I at least hope, that you would disagree with my points regarding Vesper vs Jinx. That has to be one of the most outlandish things I've ever heard on this Forum in 4 years. I see the backpedaling has already begun ;)

Maybe it was a bit fast but hey, it's Bond, he can get any girl he wants. I never had a problem with it really and overall I just prefer the bar scene with Pam to the train scene with Vesper. I do prefer the Bond/Kara relationship to both of them though.

And yes Vesper was much better than Jinx.

My two cents. The encounter between Dalton and Lowell was undermimed by the dreadful back projection in the boat.

I also think the "look I just saved your life..." dialogue felt a little clunky.

Well, the bar scene is more fun when you get Dario meeting Bond and a good bar brawl complete with the priceless look on Dalton's face when the marlin's spear smashes through the chair. But the bar scene isn't strictly one on one and not where Bond first met Pam, that was in Felix's home office so the bar scene doesn't count for me in the context of this thread. I'm fine with the Bond/Pam boat scene, including the rushed kiss because Kamen's score in the background fits so nicely. But it doesn't beat the train scene, nor does their brief conversation at the bar before the chaos breaks out, just my opinion.

I don't mind the scene but the projection IS appauling. The Michael Kamen score gives it quite a nice feel.
  • The projection is pretty bad. But I do count the bar scene as their first meeting because that's when they first properly met eachother and spoke.

I don't know why but it annoys me that it goes from pitch black to dawn in a couple of seconds.

It's not an easy this one but I'll say:
    1- Tatiana Romanova
    2- Vesper
    3- Solitaire

I also like very much the introductions of Stacey and Tiffany Case.

That nearly caught me as their actual first meetiing is very briefly at Felixs' wedding. But the Barrelhead bar seemed a stronger meeting.

As for the romantic bit afterwards (I dont care about back projection I grew up in the Roger Moore years) is rather sweet as the audience is just getting over Pam getting shot in the back a few moments before. Its a nice release of tension.

Far and away the best IMHO is "Peter Franks" meets blond/brunette/redhead Tiffany Case at her Amsterdam apartment in DAF. Tom Mankiewicz's dialogue is quite witty and the chemistry between Connery and Jill St. John pulls it off very smoothly and memorably.

My all time favorite is from GF

Some of the best chemistry in the whole series is between Sean and Jill. I think they fancied the socks off each other.

Well don't quote me on it. I just remember reading it on the internet. Either way I doubt it would much damage to them now.

Scroll down to '69. There's a brief mention.
  • It would of been hard for anyone to have turned down Jill St John in 1971, best thing about Diamonds are Forever bar the fun antics of Kidd and Wint

And she ended up being married (we all hope happily) to It Takes A Thief star Robert Wagner. A very nice looking couple indeed. :)
  • I don't have a favorite, I really don't, it's not as easy to answer as that

I was thinking Dalton and Bouvier at the Bimini Bar, the appearance of Del Toro, the mass brawl, Dalton doing a bit of fighting. It was something I enjoyed

Moore and Adams in Octopussy, that was another very good encounter, the explanation of who she really was, and Moore being serious, amid all the nonsense escapades of his other business in that years release

Connery and Andress, once again, could be the best ever, but I don't know. The once again iconic coming out of the ocean, Bond looking on, 'No, I'm just looking' etc

Brosnan and Scorupco in Goldeneye, on the Tiger helicopter, 'I'm a little tied up' before the interrogation by Mishkin

Lazenby and Tracy on the beach in Portugal before Draco's men appear

These are just a few examples, I couldn't highlight just one, but maybe Dr No, as it is the first movie and such a legendary piece of cinema when she arrives out the ocean

I think a moment must be said for Miie Hamas entrance in YOLT.

Its so Japanese and charming. The wedding scene, the gentle JB music..and her gently raising her head so we can see her face and those doe like eyes.

She wasnt the strongest character but they gave her a good introduction to Bond.

Really enjoy Fiona Volpe's first meeting with Bond.

'Some men just don't like to be driven.'
'No, some men don't like to be taken for a ride.'

I just assumed that they were one in the same, like they are for me. To each his own and all that.
