Spielberg is probably the most overrated director of all time. He made some great popcorn films in the 80's and 90's and a few good dramas here and there. He's a good director but not great. If he didn't have Jaws, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones on his resume he would be considered pretty good.

But he does have them on his resume...He also has Duel, Close Encounters, E.T and Schindler's List...

    What a strange statement..

I’m actually someone who rates AI (the Spielberg film that is) very highly too.

I mean, fair enough if many of his films aren’t for some of us. But he’s one of the most renowned directors of all time whatever one thinks of them.

Heyman may not be being entirely truthful I guess, it’s possible they’re not ready to announce dates yet. And DV can do publicity for Dune while he’s working on another film: the more important bit is post production, and I guess he’ll be locked in a dark room with editors and effects folk for months to come.

It might be that Amazon is not as worried as traditional studios about setting a release date, betting that other movies will change their opening weekend if up against a Villeneuve Bond pic. It remains to be seen if Amazon thinks the same way as Eon or MGM.

I think it would've been exciting to see Spielberg direct a Bond film in the '80s or '90s. I feel like he's mostly been on autopilot since SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, and I found his last Indiana Jones film a CGI horror show of bad writing and acting.

I agree with you. I'd peg Spielberg's last good film as Catch Me If You Can. He's past his prime, as is Hanks. I just saw Hanks onstage and he was...meh.

That’s sad to hear about Hanks— what play did you see him in?
