It's quite strange to see in a screen actor nowadays, at least in my opinion. I actually don't remember him having the habits as noticeably in the episodes of Sandington I watched, or that Viking thing. His co stars don't seem to have this habit either from the clips I watched.
Perhaps he's a sort of Henry Cavill type. Not an overly natural actor, but likeable enough onscreen (and let's be honest, probably benefits from his looks. I must admit though I don't see quite as much charisma in him compared to Cavill). If he gets a director willing to do the extra work with him he can put in a relatively decent performance. I know he's got this Anna Biller horror coming out so it'll be interesting seeing him in a film (although it looks like an ode to Technicolor horrors, which means the acting may well be quite heightened anyway, so I don't expect subtlety). I think he's playing a Bob Crotchet type in some sort of Christmas Carol movie coming out next month too. Not leading parts by any means, but worth keeping an eye on.
With Ebenezer Screwge in the lead!? 🤪
:))
Yes he was extremely wobbly-headed in the 90s; the stiff-necked Batman mask actually helped him keep it straight!
It's particularly important for Bond - a character who is, very often, extraordinarily confident. The character has to be magnetic, and often it's where they look and how they come across in those smaller expressions that really makes it impactful.
Turner should try to get the lead role in That man from Rio.
Elordi is Australian so I can't see him at the top of the list of candidates. I think Amazon will get criticism if they cast Elordi so why risk it?
Example:
"Amazon cast an Australian as Bond because no decent British actors are out there."
Elordi may have decent acting ability to play a credible Bond but if he will get negative social media attention if cast. It's possible most film goers won't care, though. Elordi has played a British character in Saltburn so that's a positive. His accent sounds convincing.
If you like him you'll LOVE that Radcliffe guy. He's basically a younger version but with the same upsides.
Cavill type would be ideal next great distance from Craig.
If the next Bond is slightly more Moore-esque (ie. expressive and lighter on the quips) that’d certainly be fine by me! But I think regardless of the actor’s take on Bond, the actor themselves has to have those strong screen instincts and make Bond their own. They can’t be lacking in that department otherwise it causes problems.
You wouldn't get that with Cavill though.
Agreed unfortunately!
Too bad he's really, really tall, too tall, gigantically so.
But his voice and acting abilities are top notch. And he's a good photographer, apparently, so him and Greg Williams could, well, bond :D
And, about his height, does it really matter? Cinema is larger than life. If he can move quickly and fight realistically, why worry about his height? Cary Grant was 12cm shorter than him, and he was already really tall, that's true, but...well, I don't know, seems cheap to put down a guy by his size.
Torn on this. Sometimes I think it feasible, other times, impossible to even consider.
But the guy is a talented actor, that is for sure. Not just a pretty face, IMO.
Loved this interview. And at the end:
GDT: "What about Toulouse Lautrec? Well, Jacob can do it"
I need to see more, but Ben Radcliffe is an intriguing prospect…
Those two, I also like.
Good shout then. Worth keeping an eye out for, but we’ll see. Reminds me a bit of Jack O’Connell mixed with Sam Heughan.
Haha yeah man. Breaking Bond
You are right Moore or Brosnan esque would be way to go. Actors who did play Bond. Easiest to compare.
To clarify, I think it depends on who they pick rather than wanting a ‘type’. There may be a wonderful Bond out there who has a harder edge or broodiness to them that’s distinctive and works for this new version of the character. Or we could get something different. So long as they’re able to handle what’s needed from the film and give us that distinct new take on Bond.
His height isn't an issue - having a tall actor is not a problem.
Woman wear heels. Often, when they have to act with actors (such as Daniel Craig, Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr) they have to wear flats.
If you hire an actress, such as Anya Taylor-Joy (5′ 8″) or Zendaya (5′ 10″), then they area already tall enough, but in heels could compete with a tall actor. The argument for having a short actor is less compelling.
With all these young actors being suggested, the more I can see Callum Turner as Bond. Unlike actors like Elordi, Dickinson and Mescal he looks tough and like he could handle himself
I still doubt we're going to get a complete unknown, first time actor though, and I think the next actor will have a CV in film that's not insignificant.
