I need to give Frankenstein a watch. It's a film I've been looking forward to. Not sure if it'll say anything about Jacob Elordi's Bond potential, and I doubt it'll be him, but I've heard his performance is very good.

Eternity's another one on my list. The trailer looked interesting, and I agree it sells Callum Turner really well. We'll see who they go for ultimately, but I think he's a good actor with an interesting career ahead regardless.

I've got a friend who's watched this new Lynley show (they're abroad and I don't think it has a BBC release date as of yet so I haven't seen it). Apparently it's fine. More clips seem to have come up which I watched. I still like Suter's voice (good for a video game or audio adaptation of Fleming) but he seems incapable of maintaining consistent eye contact with his co-stars - lots of head bobbing and looking around, very 'small screen' acting. I find it tricky imagining him filling that screen as Bond, and as I've said I think he's just got the wrong presence for the role. But we'll see, and I'll give the series a watch when it comes about here.

No new unknown actors to report. That is my update on the state of Bond, based on minimal knowledge ;)

I remember reading that George Clooney, who also had a background in television, had to be broken of certain head mannerisms that were more evident, and distracting, on the big screen,

It's quite strange to see in a screen actor nowadays, at least in my opinion. I actually don't remember him having the habits as noticeably in the episodes of Sandington I watched, or that Viking thing. His co stars don't seem to have this habit either from the clips I watched.

Perhaps he's a sort of Henry Cavill type. Not an overly natural actor, but likeable enough onscreen (and let's be honest, probably benefits from his looks. I must admit though I don't see quite as much charisma in him compared to Cavill). If he gets a director willing to do the extra work with him he can put in a relatively decent performance. I know he's got this Anna Biller horror coming out so it'll be interesting seeing him in a film (although it looks like an ode to Technicolor horrors, which means the acting may well be quite heightened anyway, so I don't expect subtlety). I think he's playing a Bob Crotchet type in some sort of Christmas Carol movie coming out next month too. Not leading parts by any means, but worth keeping an eye on.

Presume you mean Bob Cratchit? Unless they're doing a porn version of 'A Christmas Carol'? 😂
With Ebenezer Screwge in the lead!? 🤪

Yes he was extremely wobbly-headed in the 90s; the stiff-necked Batman mask actually helped him keep it straight!

It sounds a bit weird, but I think really good actors (particularly screen ones) just know when to move their head and where to look. They just know where the character's meant to be looking because they understand what they're thinking from moment to moment.

It's particularly important for Bond - a character who is, very often, extraordinarily confident. The character has to be magnetic, and often it's where they look and how they come across in those smaller expressions that really makes it impactful.

It's been sooooooooooo quiet recently. No gossip about new contenders or past names. Has anyone seen anything featuring a possible contender?

I know Frankenstein debuted and I watched it at the cinema and thought it was very good - proper overcooked, camp, theatrical, gothic fun. I thought Elordi was excellent as well.

The new trailer for Eternity is also really selling Callum Turner to me. He has an old school movie star look.

Turner should try to get the lead role in That man from Rio.

Elordi is Australian so I can't see him at the top of the list of candidates. I think Amazon will get criticism if they cast Elordi so why risk it?

    Example:

"Amazon cast an Australian as Bond because no decent British actors are out there."

Elordi may have decent acting ability to play a credible Bond but if he will get negative social media attention if cast. It's possible most film goers won't care, though. Elordi has played a British character in Saltburn so that's a positive. His accent sounds convincing.

No surprise, but the more and more time goes on, the more I see Callum Turner as the best option...

I found Callum T very dull and empty in that WWII show. He had one moment to show like a bit of insanity and it was completely awkward and unconvincing.

If you like him you'll LOVE that Radcliffe guy. He's basically a younger version but with the same upsides.

Cavill type would be ideal next great distance from Craig.

If the next Bond is slightly more Moore-esque (ie. expressive and lighter on the quips) that’d certainly be fine by me! But I think regardless of the actor’s take on Bond, the actor themselves has to have those strong screen instincts and make Bond their own. They can’t be lacking in that department otherwise it causes problems.

    Agreed unfortunately!
