I remember Denis Irwin getting sent of at Anfield for a similar stupid rule and decision by ref.
  • Bookings for booting the ball and dissent are completely fair play in my book. How can the ref have any authority if the players can act like children and get away with it.

A yellow for taking shirts off is a bit sillier, but the principle is that putting the shirt back on delays the game unnecessarily. Instituted after Forlan still had his shirt off after kick-off. Anyway, it's been a rule for ages and Ekitike should know better than to take off his shirt on a yellow card. It's his own fault that he's been sent off and the referee should bear no blame for the decision

I think it would be better if they give the team a 30-50 metre penalty (bring the ball forward) for such petty acts instead of cards.

Imagine missing a final, CL,WC etc for kicking the ball away.......:-O

It's FIFA's fault for ruining the game with these stupid rules.
Everyone knows they are a joke.

England and other countries can't host the World Cup because they lack oil or coca cola money.
  • And what if a free kick is given within 30 metres of the goal and the defending team starts complaining? Is it an automatic goal? That would be silly, and so would a penalty. A yellow card is inoffensive enough that it doesn't really affect play, but enough of a punishment to deter players from repeating the error.

I also think that FIFA don't make or change the rules, I think that's IFAB's job. But I agree that FIFA are hurting the game for profits and ignoring any logic. The 6-country world cup in 2030 just to set up Saudi Arabia 2034 is so incredibly blatant.

Fifa just about control IFAB don't they ?

Place the ball on the edge of the pen box semi circle(not in the pen box) ,surely that's a more fairer punishment for yelling at the ref etc.....

Like i said a "petty" yellow card can cost the player a final.

Imagine giving messi etc a "petty" second yellow card in the last WC for example ?
  • But then the problem becomes that it's optimal to give stick to the ref, timewaste etc. on certain parts of the pitch. A free kick already close to the edge of the penalty area? Timewaste, kick the ball away and the punishment is minimal. Doing the same thing on the halfway line however, pretty much pushes the football up miles.

Referees are also pretty hesitant about giving yellows for dissent in the first place, so what is the change that they give an even stricter punishment when they're under pressure, home fans shouting, etc. A yellow, most of the time, is less impactful, so it is more likely to be given and thus stamp the behaviour out of the game more often. Similar thing with diving; if you want less blatant and extreme dives than you need a safe punishment that won't cause too many problems in the game but tell players that it isn't alright.

Referees also try to be street smart a lot of the time; a lot of players get lucky and a lot of lee-way for second yellows already. And sending-offs for this sort of reason only really happen when the referee has to give a booking (like for taking a shirt off). Second yellows for dissent happen quite rarely and for timewasting are also quite rare (except the bizarre case for the two Arsenal players who weren't even really wasting time).

If a player does a "petty" thing so blatantly in a game on a yellow, then yes they deserve to be sent off. Messi in the WC only got one yellow and didn't do anything silly to deserve another booking in any of the other games. If he did, than I'm fine with him being sent off. It's not like time-wasting or diving or taking a shirt off is some accident that you stumble upon like some handballs refs give. It's a plan that has its risks, and when players do those things they agree to the risks.

And I mean that logic could be used to get rid of yellow cards entirely! If Messi's already on a yellow in the WC semifinal and he pulls back a Croatian player on a counterattack, should he get a second yellow? It's just a shirt pull and we all want to see Messi in the final. Well I think that he should go; he made a challenge, and the consequences should follow, no matter the player, the score, the match context etc.

Also: IFAB is half run by FIFA, but the other half is run by the Home Nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales). That means that FIFA can't pass any rule changes on their own and I believe they need at least two Home Nations to agree before passing any rules

The gameweek 6 deadline is just around the corner, but let's have quick look at gameweek 5 first! With an overall average of only 42 points, this was a pretty low scoring gameweek. Still, many teams comfortably beat this score – in our league as well – best of which this time being LVLA Skopje 05, scoring impressive 86 points playing the Bench Boost – giving them a 3 digit gameweek rank of 883. Congratulations! =D>

Arsenal 6 points behind in September… Could be the season has been decided already!

It is early days, saying that Arsenal have gone backwards this is poor compared to previous seasons.

You looked better with Jesus up front, underrated player.
Wow Martinelli with a moment of genius.

Fantastic effort by Martinelli, but this certainly feels like two important points dropped. Missing out on these points this early is simply not good enough.

Don't know what to make of Gyökeres so far. He's certainly not in his best form, but he's also had next to no service up top.
It was a dominant performance today, but not a good or a creative one. I agree that Eze should have played 90 minutes.

I was a bit shocked to see Madueke make way and not Trossard. Madueke was the only positive from the first half and he made something happen everytime he was on the ball. Plus his ability to outpace defenders and cross would have helped give more service to Gyokeres, who was mostly starved.

Saka came on at the right time considering fitness issues. He was good with drifting in and out of trouble and made good outside-in runs that gave Eze options.

Great goal from Martinelli; him running in behind late on and scoring is his trademark at the moment. One might wonder if he could take the super-sub spot from the left wing that Trossard and Smith Rowe had before him.

All in all a disappointing result. Liverpool have had a nice schedule so far and quite a bit of luck, but 5 points is still a big gap at this point in the season. The next 4 games against Newcastle, West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace, all teams we've dropped points to recently, are very important for us.

Madueke should have stayed on, Arteta was too cautious in his approach.

Madueke went off with an injury, apparently. There were rumours on Twitter of an ACL injury earlier today (which is unlikely given that he didn't look injured), but no actual reports yet. Suggestions are that he will miss a significant period though. As if Arsenal didn't have enough injuries already…

I feel for Madueke he has had a great start to the season for club and country. I hope its not an ACL.

I would assume if Ødegaard had been fit Arsenal would have been more attacking.

It's very early still but Arsenal really don't want to drop any more points as Liverpool won't drop many.

Looks like Madueke will miss two months of football. I just hope they are able to manage Saka's game time in that period. Can't risk being without both Madueke and him…

I think Arsenal have yet again been hit with injuries at the worst possible time. I can't really see them catching up with Liverpool, and the games they have ahead of them aren't the easiest either…

My triple captain may or may not be active, I toggled it a few times in the last seconds.

@Torgeirtrap Saka's return is very well timed.

BREAKING NEWS: Nuno is the new West Ham manager...

Here are the gameweek 6 captaincy picks!
    Salah: 4
    Haaland: 4
    João Pedro: 3
    Semenyo: 2
    Gibbs-White: 1
    B. Fernandes: 1

There are no standout captaincy pick among managers in our league this gameweek, with both Salah and Haaland being backed by four managers each. João Pedro is also a popular pick, with Semenyo being the only other player captained by more than one manager. Good luck everyone!

Could not make my mind up if I wanted to play the Triple Captain or not. Decided against it in the end, as my gut feeling was to save it for later. So congratulations on a haul today, @Fire_and_Ice_Returns! :))

Indeed, Arsenal are lucky that he's available. But I fear Saka will be a constant injury risk now that they can't share his minutes with Madueke…

Breaking indeed! I think Nuno is the best possible candidate they could have got really. The timing with him leaving Forest is West Ham's gain.

Triple captain never activated in the end lol probably a blessing as I was listening too much to FPL YT channels.

Man United no surprises for me, i knew we had issues after the Chelsea game and was not buying into any of the talk that we played well.

Amorim won't last long if he won't change, Bruno should not be in midfield and constantly playing Maguire as middle CB is baffling, did Amorim see what Haaland did to Maguire on the half way line a few weeks ago.

Personally i want him to leave I have seen very little to suggest anything will change, and quite frankly if he had his dream squad I still don't think he would do much better. Good managers get the best out of the players they currently have and build and adapt as the team progresses.

City currently 1 - 1 at home to Burnley, glad i did not hit the Triple captain lol

Three of my squad are currently no shows this could be a low scoring week for me.

Could be a close title race this year ?

Good performance by Palace could have been more, losing to Palace right now is not the worst thing they are on a 18 game unbeaten run.

The next big question is can Arsenal actually win away to Newcastle win the pressure on to gain ground it will be a big ask.

I still think City will drop points going forward despite a few food recent results.

Can't say a single gameweek Triple Captain could have gone any better for managers, but I still think (or hope!) that a double gameweek will be just as good an option or better for the Triple Captain chip.

For me, it seems that Amorim isn't able to adapt enough during the games. You see other managers changing systems multiple times in a game if needed, but United seem very, very predictable. This is something Amorim need to get better at.

I cheered that Nketiah goal as if he was still an Arsenal player, haha! Oliver Glasner is doing an incredible job at Palace. He must surely be on the list of many teams around Europe now, but I hope Palace are able to keep him.

I don't think Liverpool will dropp many points this year. If Arsenal hadn't got the late winner against Newcastle, I think they would have had a very difficult task just keeping up with Liverpool. Liverpool seem to pick up points even when they're not playing great (which happened in several games last season too) – something that Arsenal and even City can struggle to do.

@Torgeirtrap I thought you would be buzzing after the late winner by Nketiah, still think he could have done a job for Arsenal.

According to reports Amorim is very detached in training only interacts with a few senior players and leaves his coaches to it, he is falling into the same trap as previous managers and relying on those senior players on the pitch when frankly some of them are not good enough or are playing out of position. I give Amorim a month max, allegedly the pay out would be a lot less after November 1st.

Amorim's reaction to the penalties against Grimsby was a red flag he offered little support to the team during that and hid his face in his hands.

I think Nketiah could still have been an option for Arsenal, but likely only as a sub. From what I've seen he hasn't got much more playing time at Palace, but Mateta has been one of the best strikers in the league after all.

It might be more common than I would know, but I find it strange as a manager to not be "hands on" on the pitch. From everything I've seen of inside Arsenal, Arteta is very much precent at training sessions. It looks to be the same with Pep at City.

United's upcoming fixtures looks like a mixed bag. They certainly need to pick up points in the easier fixtures, and against tougher opposition too.

I was thinking the same Nketiah leaving for first team football makes sense though thats not what happened, he always seemed to score important goals off the bench for Arsenal.

I honestly think Sunderland will beat us at old Trafford at the weekend they are in fifth for a reason and Amorim just wont change his line up, I think he will just keep persisting in something that does not work.

Reports say Man United have spoken to Glasner, Glasner also has not committed to a new Palace contract.

Amorim needs to get results fast if that is even possible now.

Is this a side ways move for Glasner as he plays the same formation

Let's have a look at gameweek 6 before tonights deadline! With an average score of 46 points, gameweek 6 wasn't a high scoring gameweek. Still, the average score was better than gameweek 5's 42. As with most gameweeks so far this season, the points variance is noticeable, with some teams seeing great scores. That could be said of our gameweek 6 winner too – for the third week in a row LVLA Skopje 05 has finished top of the gameweek rankings, this time scoring 80 points, playing the Triple Captain chip. Congratulations! =D>

Glasner's results speak for themselves, but would he be wise to leave Crystal Palace now? Getting the chance to manage a bigger club is no doubt tempting for any manager, but he has the chance to build something at Palace, I think.

According to reports today its likely Amorim will be given the season, part of me thinks a manager should be given two years though in this instance the same selection mistakes are being made time and time again.

If Bruno continues to play in midfield going forward I just can't back the manager as it just does not work.
