Good point. I'm very much a fan of custom typography, where the designer deliberately introduce quirks, exaggerate curves, or adjust kerning to either increase legibility or give the type character. And that's what I expect these brand to afford to do. Being luxury items after all!

It really is tasty, isn't it! I saw another Heuer online last week (not a Cortina), and that too had a very nice looking dial, with similarly well executed typography. I didn't make a note of what model it was though, unfortunately.

I'm not that big a fan of modern Tag Hauer watches, but I really like older ones. The TAG Heuer Night-Diver Timothy Dalton wore is quite nice. Maybe a bit "tactical" looking for my taste, but if I ever get the chance to own one, I won't think twice about it!

Yes I like the Carrera WS2111 a lot. It’s got nice vintage cool.

Funny you should mention this particular Carrera @mtm, since this one (or a similar model) was one of my recent searches on Chrono24! It's a very small detail, but I like the curved "automatic". It makes me think of Tudor Oyster Prince watches, where the "Self-Winding" is curved in the same way.

There are obvious differences of course, but this Carrera also made me think of the Dirty Dozen watches of WW2.

Yeah I wish I’d bought one a couple of years ago, they’ve almost tripled in price since I’ve been looking at them!

The prices you find these days, from certain brands and models – and that goes for the preowned market and many vintage watches as well – is shocking!

For the past couple of weeks, the Rolex Explorer has been showing up in my Instagram feed and elsewhere. Not only because of algorithms, but simply because I’ve spotted it by chance — in photos from clothing brands and other posts that have nothing to do with watches. Seeing it in such different contexts really makes me understand why so many people (including Ian Fleming!) love this watch.

But talking about price jumps; if I were to get a watch like this, I certainly should have done so three or four years ago!
