I got the Sony UBP-X700 a couple of years ago which was recommended at the time for being very good for the money. Only annoying thing is that it doesn't automatically detect HDR.

Yep, good old Calvin always makes great content.

I was shocked at the Thunderball comparison. The Teal colour on the 4K looked weird!

Personally i will stick with my Blu-Ray copies after seeing this.

It's very difficult to know what movies were like originally.

Goldfinger's Blu Ray doesn't look anything like the VHS version. The same thing happens with Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It looked lovely watching it; honestly as Dyson says, the HDR makes such a difference- especially with TB as you can really feel the sunshine, and there's so much more depth in the tones, you're seeing much more. I know what you mean, in the comparisons the BR looks much brighter and more contrasty, but the 4K doesn't need that because the HDR (which you're not seeing in the YT vid) gives the bright tones in a much more sympathetic range. As he says, they look like movies made in the 60s again, it's like you're watching a film print.

I'm pretty ignorant about a lot of the technical stuff. But i know what i like.

I got the 2001: A Space Odyssey 4K last year. I preferred the look of my Blu-Ray copy so i sent the 4K back!

Yes, if anyone’s ever seen a movie projected on film in a cinema, they’ll know it’s a slightly different expirience to home viewing or even digital projection.

I’m not a big home media person and find Blu-Rays a bit overrated personally. I generally like the look of those new 4K’s though.

Do you have an HDR telly? I absolutely love HDR, more than the additional resolution of the 4K, I think it gives so much more punch.

Yeah I should say I wasn't blown away watching them: the difference isn't staggering. But I like that they weren't really going for that: these are just aiming to be the most sympathetic to the original presentations that they could be whilst still revealing more depth to the image than before (you can really see that whenever there's an explosion or fire- there's just more tonal range there), they're not trying to compete to dazzle your eyeballs by polishing them up more than the Blu Rays if you know what I mean, they're just aiming to be the definitive versions.

I am really looking forward to the Rogers though: that's when the films entered the more modern look of presentation, and they should look pretty stunning.

Yes, I have an HDR TV. Although I had to double check...😁
