I've only proposed Louis Partridge because, in the (very) young Bond scenario, he is definitely the best choice, and, like Connery, he can pass for older. He could very well be in his late 20s. Antithetically, Tom Holland is 29 and looks no older than 17/18. Craig always looked older than his age, and it suited him nicely. So did Connery.
I say Partridge, in 2028, will look like a 30 year old, with perfect hair, deep voice, and...oh boy, it sounds like we're talking about horses here. I found myself using my Tommy Shelby inner voice. I'll shut up now :D
I don’t support this, but I’m not closed minded to it either; it would all be in the execution. Watching an actor like Partridge mature in the role could be interesting.
I would pair him with Jon Hamm as Felix; I can see him as a mentor like figure
Yes. I agree. A younger Bond would show us something different and new.
I don't see what's to gain from explicitly making the character in their mid/late 20s though. I agree that Bond's experience probably dictates him being at least in his 30s and I don't the next film should try and contradict that.
It's also make believe. I agree that a younger Bond would be interesting, because of how it would need to be different. No one is asking for a 23 year old to play older.
Bond's character supposedly got loads of this experience over WWII (with also some periods before and after). If we read about Bond during the war or before we'd get a different character.
I'm not saying that Bond should be veteran in the exact same way, but I personally believe that Bond should have a period of 7-10 years of experience before we see him. His "war" some may say.
To be fair, in CR M wonders aloud if she promoted Bond too soon: I don’t mind that idea. Maybe there’s some kind of loss of a number of double Os which leads to Bond’s premature promotion to the role, or perhaps the double O programme is a new innovative concept which involves getting the brightest of the new agents into the field.
I dunno, I know what you’re saying: the whole concept of the licence to kill is that Bond is trusted to operate solo, and that implies a level of experience, but I think CR showed it can work.
Yep, I’d be happy with either of those choices. I’d prefer Butler as I think he’s the better actor.
He is, most definitely!
I agree, and is more than talented enough for the role.
I can imagine Glenn Powell though, although he wouldn't be my first choice. In the nicest way possible I don't think he'd outshine the lead actor, which I think Butler could do more easily.
Edit: I’ve suggested Walton Goggins as a bad guy, but he might make a good Felix Leiter, too. Sam Rockwell might also be good.
But can he be all three?
And he not only has to be able to do all three jobs at an elite level, but also to be the best…..to be better than almost all other men who were able to do all three jobs in their mid-20s who didn’t get better with experience
Would be refreshing not to have the usual storyline of Bond going rogue/resigning to take on traitor / personal vendetta
Since Bond 26 is going to be exotic locations. B27 can be Stateside, just picture Felix and Bond on horseback.
...and being a tad too expensive.
Yes, there's that too! Even if Amazon could afford them I suppose it's a cost vs benefit thing. Better to get a lesser known but good actor who won't outshine the next Bond.
I don't think Austin Butler could do it in that sense, even as a Jack Lord type Leiter. I don't think Glenn Powell's a big thing, so I guess he could do it (as much as I understand he's been in some big films, but let's face it, he's not a Tom Cruise, Bread Pitt, or even a Jacob Elordi or Paul Mescal).
Depends on what direction they want to go.
Holbrook's a great idea, I like that.
Agree on Butler: I've been watching Masters of the Air to see a bit of Callum Turner, who is good in it, but Butler is the one with that x factor, effortless cool and charisma thing I want my Bond to have. If he were British I'd be clamouring for him to be 007- he'd have everything.
So I think he's a bit too Bond-ish to be Felix.
He is kind of desperate to be that old school movie star judging by his choices, and I think isn't far off becoming A list at some point if he keeps going. Running Man might help, I don't know.
I'm one of those who isn't too keen on Jack Lord's Felix; he's playing it basically as a competing Bond, and a Bond film can't have two Bonds. I also don't think there's much of an attempt at all to set up their friendship in Dr No, maybe because both characters are just so cold in it.
I know what you mean. I can understand why they put Leiter (and by extension Lord) in there. I suppose it's an attempt to build up Bond's allies in the first film (even if they couldn't have foreseen Lord not returning). I do think it gives the story a bit more intrigue, at least for the first portion.
But yeah, I don't think a Jon Hamm or even Austin Butler Leiter would work. I think even Amazon would be looking at more character actors.
