I'm sad to hear of the death of Terence Stamp. I know him best as the sidekick Willie Garvin in the mad spy film Modesty Blaise (1966).

"Mad" is right! But (IIRC), that was probably my introduction to Terence Stamp.

Wonderful actor. It'll be my pleasure to explore his filmography in greater depth, as I haven't seen enough of his work.

R.I.P. Terence Stamp, always associate him with the swinging 60's
Think he would want to be remember more than just appearing in Superman films!

Interestingly Last Night in Soho was both Terence Stamps and Diana Riggs last film, I quite enjoyed that movie I know it got mixed reviews.
  • Sad news about Terence Stamp. He was in the running to replace Connery . He would have made an outstanding Bond in OHMSS but then the world may not have got his definitive interpretation of General Zod.

It was just last week that I looked up the reason for why Stamp wasn't cast as Bond. I had mistakenly believed that he declined to be considered.

It turns out that he actually met with Saltzman but the meeting did not go well.
“Like most English actors, I’d have loved to be 007 because I really know how to wear a suit,” he said.

“But I think my ideas about it put the frighteners on Harry. I didn’t get a second call from him.

“He took me out for dinner at the White Elephant in Curzon Street. He said, ‘We’re looking for the new 007. You’re really fit and really English.’

“I was very shocked but I thought it was great. ‘The fact is,’ I said, ‘Sean has made the role his own. The public will have trouble accepting anyone else. But in one of the books it starts with him disguised as a Japanese warrior. If we could do that one, I could start the movie in complete Japanese make-up. By the time it came off they are used to me a little bit. I would love to do it like that.’ He wasn’t impressed.”

I assume Saltzman wasn't happy with the idea of a new Bond being in disguise for the 1st act of the movie. He probably was even less happy that Stamp was unaware they had just done the film version of You Only Live Twice.

That's very sad news. I enjoyed watching him on Caught in Providence. He was a very just, humane and compassionate judge. I know he'll be in a better place now.
