You always handle these so well.
I can now feel this emoji :)] setting in.
And agree, @GoldenGun does a top job with these games!
But I'll try, count me in!
The number of Bond "actors"? I guess it depends on the criteria! =))
Count me in as well.
The seal might have done a better job than...ok, I keep the name to myself for now.
Was thinking about just the actors. Let's take their entire Bond careers into consideration. So for each actor, one has to consider all of his Bond performances.
I was also considering to throw in Barry Nelson and David Niven too, unless there's a huge protest against their inclusion :p In any case, they will make the revealing process a bit longer...
Nelson, Connery, Niven, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, and Craig. That's the complete list then? 😄
Quite right ;)
Unless you want to include the seal from CR67? 😝
I actually liked this, maybe we could create a new (separate) game on this soon after this current one?
Haha true. Let's stick to Niv then ;)
It's on the list for a future game, eventually it'll be done as well :)
In the meantime, those that want to participate can already send me their lists.
All Bond actors are eligible, please consider their entire Bond career:
- Barry Nelson (CR54)
- Sean Connery (DN, FRWL, GF, TB, YOLT, DAF, NSNA)
- David Niven (CR67)
- George Lazenby (OHMSS)
- Roger Moore (LALD, TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, FYEO, OP, AVTAK)
- Timothy Dalton (TLD, LTK)
- Pierce Brosnan (GE, TND, TWINE, DAD)
- Daniel Craig (CR, QOS, SF, SP, NTTD)
I don't think there's a definitive Bond, and while I think there are preferences on this site/away from here, I don't ultimately think it's fair when you take into account their whole tenures. If, for example, Sean Connery's the 'definitive Bond' I'd argue he had at least three movies where he was lacklustre or looked bored. That's just me. Most people would rank him above, say, Roger Moore who I'd argue gave better performances each time round, even if he wasn't necessarily that earlier incarnation or is seen as that definitive Bond. Do those early performances outrank Moore's tenure for me? I don't know. I honestly couldn't say which one is the better Bond and I've gotten so much out of their individual performances/films it's not a fair comparison. Another example: I'd say on the whole I guess Lazenby's my 'least favourite' Bond, but I can also say his performance in OHMSS is better than some of my more preferred actor's performances (again, I'd say Connery gave some pretty lacklustre performances). Where does he rank all things considered? I don't think it's fair to put him above actors who had more chances to show what they could do with the character, or indeed had other shortcomings over that longer period of time.
If it's a case of ranking performances, please count me in. I think that'd be really interesting. But I'm really sorry, as much as I appreciate your rankings, I don't think rating each actor individually is something I can personally do. I really couldn't rank the Bond actors (at least as of now, no idea if I've done it in the past!) They're all great in their own ways, despite my criticism or praise of them.
Interestingly, (IMO) an argument can be made that Terence Cooper’s *turn* as James Bond in Casino Royale (1967) is actually a closer approximation to the Connery portrayal than David Niven’s, and thus could have been that film's option. That said, it is still Niven's film and Cooper doesn't have enough screen time to be considered.
