Just saw JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH on 4DX (my first time going to one).

I only have one quibble and that concerns the ending pulling a rather chickenshit move. Beyond that, it’s fine I guess? I enjoyed it for the most part. I don’t know where I’d rank it, because I have not seen JURASSIC WORLD or FALLEN KINGDOM since theaters, and I never saw DOMINION. If JURASSIC PARK is a 10/10, this falls somewhere in 6-7.

Score was nice. I didn’t realize who it was until the credits, but I knew it was not Giacchino.

I also forgot this was Gareth Edwards. For what it’s worth then, I enjoyed it more than the snoozefests that were GODZILLA and ROGUE ONE.

Just saw F1. Blown away by it. The car action sequences are some of the best I've ever seen on film. Edge-of-your-seat throughout, Kosinski outdoing himself with the class direction he did on Top Gun, and Zimmer producing one of his best scores in years.

Finally Brad Pitt. This was a role he was born to play. Rooting for him and the team from the beginning right the way to the checkered flag at the end.

Unmissable. You have to see this on the biggest screen possible.

I'm glad you liked it. It felt very middle of the road effort for me, even Pitt felt bored to me. I wish he brought more Moneyball to this, less, smug empty charm? And I'm a car journalist, I need a little more than the camera mounted to the car to feel something special. I enjoyed the movie, but will probably never put it back on my TV. It was better than watching a real F1 race, I'll give it that.

    Crash Dive (1997)
    1177.entity.jpg
This is the 3rd Dudikoff film i've seen, and so far, nothing has blown my socks off. Crash Dive is just Die Hard on a Submarine. But The Hunt For Red October or Crimson Tide this is not. A few brief fights, and a memorable death for the villain is all Crash Dive has to offer.
The USS Ulysses is on routine manoeuvres, when they pick up a distress call. Surfacing to pick up the handful of survivors, before submerging again. Once beneath the waves, the survivors reveal themselves to be terrorists when they overrun the crew and take control of the Ulysses. The Navy brass bring in a former Seal who also designed the Ulysses. His job is to get aboard, and disable the warheads, before they can be used.

Recently saw the trailer for this, and though i have zero interest in motor racing of any kind, it looks fantastic. Hopefully it will have that 'don't make em like that anymore' feel that 'TG Maverick' managed..

Jurassic World Rebirth (2025). Cheap horror entertainment. Predictable. One thing that I do find good about the Jurassic series is similar to Bond. When Spielberg and the Jurassic crew are in doubt, go back to Michael Crichton. When the movies use one of his two Jurassic books as scenes and influences, they’re usually the better scenes. There’s still a lot to adapt from his work! The actors were more or less on autopilot. Scarlett Johansson still doesn’t have many facial expressions. If Jonathan Bailey becomes the DCU Batman, (like some fans want), I would give him a chance, based on this. It seems while Spielberg is the Cubby Broccoli of the Jurassic series, David Koepp is basically the Richard Maibaum or Purvis and Wade of it. He’s always helping out with ideas, it seems. So while I enjoyed it, I will say follow your gut feeling (or your wallet, I’ll be honest) if you really want to watch it. Also, I think one of the locations that they filmed at was Scaramanga’s lair in The Man with the Golden Gun. If they make another Jurassic movie, great. If they don’t, great. I could go either way on seeing it.

I found it to be so poor my eyes teared up every time the John Williams theme played because I found it unworthy of it. How on earth have they continuously messed this thing up for the past three decades? The Jurassic Park trilogy is passable, the first being a colossal classic and the biggest cinema experience I've ever had, but this Jurassic World trite is just awful. How sad.

The recent films make even The Lost World: Jurassic Park 2 look like an absolute triumph. I have never understood people's hatred towards it -- with Spielberg directing and Williams' bongo score both "new" and adventurous, that film has some awesome moments to offer. Nothing in the recent batch comes close for me.

I know exactly what you’re referring to here, and I can’t agree more. I thought it was just cowardly. There are a couple other quibbles I have with it, but this is one of the mos obvious and immediately irksome to me. Definitely a 6-6.5/10 for me.

Agreed too. I’ll also add that I wouldn’t say no to Desplat scoring a Bond film in the future.

I agree, my friend. I actually really like The Lost World and the character development by Ian Malcom, who was a sceptic in the first one, albeit a happy one, and now is downright antithetical, cynical and suffering from ptsd. Also, the visual effects are second to none. The first three films had dinosaurs that felt real, scenarios that felt real, palpable production design. All of which are lacking in the Jurassic World films.

    Deilig er fjorden 2/6
Altho this sailing comedy has big stars of norwegian cinema , its naff......Wesenlund tries his best but imo its a poor film
    Selskapsresan 5/6
Great vacation comedy , which would spawn 4 sequels, kids today would find it kinda slow , tho

    Zero Effect

What a charming movie. I love Bill Pullman; his screen presence is so interesting, and I feel actors who move between serious and goofy roles are some of the coolest. Enjoyed watching his performance very much, along with Ben Stiller, Ryan O'Neal and Kim Dickens. And somehow I've found myself watching three Ryan O'Neal films this year.

The Matrix Resurrections really enjoyed this watch, very underrated film IMO.

The Matrix Resurrections really enjoyed this watch, very underrated film IMO.

I've gone back and forth with this one so many times. On one hand, it makes Revolutions much more enjoyable knowing that Neo ends up alive. The plot is actually not half bad. However, the action scenes, with the exception of the opening recreation of the scene from the original just feels bland in comparison to what the first three films brought. Wasn't a huge fan either of it being extremely meta in many places.

I am excited for what potentially Matrix 5 brings. Do they continue on with the current storyline? Do they make a prequel showing the machines rise to power? All new cast with a new story? A film based on what was briefly shown in Resurrections with the machine civil war?

The action is no where as good as the original trilogy though i do like a lot of the idea's in Resurrections and compared to many recent action/science fiction films It stands up well.

Heads of State on Amazon Prime.

Really enjoyed this one - Cena and Elba are great together, the dialogue is mostly quick and quippy, and the action scenes are a lot of fun.

    JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH (2025)
Took my service users to see this the other day! They all loved it! I haven't watched one since the original, and it's funny, I had the same view! The effects are great, but the characters are poor ( despite me having a longtime crush on Scarlett!) Its never boring but when my lasting impression is how did Mahershala Ali manage to keep his hat on after a final encounter with the big bad Dino, then a movie is in trouble!

My other half has a soft spot for dino and shark movies, and we have a deal that I sometimes get to choose a Bond or a giallo, if she can sometimes submit me to dino / shark stuff, and I already agreed on watching this one :p Good to read it's never boring though ;)

If your other half likes these type of movies, she should enjoy this! Not really my cup of tea!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has to negotiate with the missus. I have sat through the entire Twilight saga... three bloody times already! That's a high price to pay, people.

Becky (2020) and Wrath Of Becky (2023)
    9e83026fbfd6435ac67c177e737e7eb2950bb4df.gifv
These films were a pleasant surprise, and I had no idea what to expect. I'm glad I took a chance, as I had a blast watching both. Neo nazis in the 1st film, extremist misogynist cult in the 2nd, I hope there's a part 3, to see who Becky targets next (and find out more about 'the key'). Naming your kid Adolf, it'll never end well. :))

And both films have VERY unexpected, but brilliantly acted villains. Very surprising turns by both actors.

I don't know if this qualifies as "last movie you watched", but through the usual coincidences I stumbled across this short, apparently spoofing Ingmar Bergman:

I've been meaning to watch these two for some time now, @MajorDSmythe. Your endorsement is just what I needed!
