This is still Eon Productions, the only difference this time is that the Broccolis aren’t running the show. Heyman and Pascal seem to actually be the best people to succeed as new producers, at least for the moment.
My hope is that for the new era, we don't explore a cynical, aging Bond at the back end of his career. I don't need more reminders of what getting old is like. Much prefer to see youth, energy, and maybe some optimism/
I doubt it. I think we are going to get a young Bond, or at least one in his mid-30s who can do 3-4 films.
My concern is that they will instantly saddle Bond #7 with his new Tracy or Vesper or Madeleine, and I think that would be a mistake. Maybe Gala, or Tiffany or Mary, rebooting the last two. Plus, we never got Kissy Suzuki's name onscreen.
With you all the way on this.
Agree. But beyond Gala and Tiff, I think Bond needs to just be his womanizing self out of the gate.
No Eon involved; as far as I understand it Eon is now just another company which the co-owners of Bond happen to own, as related to Bond as Chitty Productions Ltd. is.
I doubt it they left it all like that. First off, EON is still one of the big shareholders, so if they're not happy, that certainly makes a difference. They just don't have full power anymore, which means there's negotiating space. If you look at the people they hired, these are certainly people with the blessing of the Broccoli's. So yes, they have influence, but no, no veto power.
Respectfully, I disagree. Amazon paid Broccoli and Wilson $1B to go away, probably with a nondisparagement clause.
"I'm sorry, James Bond, I'm the one apologizing, Commander; you don't deserve to go through this, but your papa Ian Fleming had left you, and there's nothing we can do"
It doesn't matter if Villeneuve or any other Bond fan direct, they are going to realise that there are too many ingredients that need to be balanced that they have no clue about and the audience will make them pay for it because they will be missing. EON won't point them out because they got the check already.
The forthcoming GAME give you a reading into the future. I understand, like me, that you are all invested since decades into loving Bond, but BOND DIED IN THE LAST FILM and he won't be coming back.
Chalamet will kill Bond, and you will all gag on it. I don't mind anyone being optimistic about the future, but traditional Bond died with DAD, and Bond died with NTTD.
Maybe next time ?
Are you referring to Broccoli and Wilson as ‘Eon’? Which is fine if you’re just using it as shorthand, but I’m specifically talking about Eon Productions Ltd. Because technically, as I understand, Eon have zero to do with Bond; Broccoli & Wilson are co-owners of the company which owns James Bond, and they also own Eon, but Eon itself has nothing to do with Bond any longer; it’s just something that its owners happen to also own, much like your washing machine has nothing to do with your car, other than both being owned by you.
LOL.
Seeing as Bond 26/1 is a complete reboot of the franchise I think it'd be crazy for Amazon/Villeneuve to go with "hey, Bond died in NTTD, let's do Bond 26/1 just as depressing!"
😂
It's gonna be a bit more fun. An over the top precredit scene, not too serious, could be a way to reintroduce 007. 😉
Well, I didn't delve deeply in the business structure, but indeed I menat Wilson and Broccoli. It doesn't really matter if they do so through Eon productions or any other holding specifically put together for this. There are country specific reasons why certain structures are set-up.
I don't think 1 billion is actually all that much considering what's beeing sold. NTTD has made a turnover of 700+ million dollars. Then we're talking about the brand name: 007, James Bond, etc. are brands known all over the world. You can sell wooden planks with the 007 logo and ask a premium. That 1 billion might not even be enough for that part, as you'd typically use a multiplier. Now, this isn't my kind of business, multipliers differ strongly, but if we'd take the turnover of just the brands themselves, and the already existing films, and multiply that by, say, a very conservative 5 (years), you might already go past the 1 billion mark. So no, I don't think they completely lost control. They stepped back as producers, but shareholders still can influence who's beeing hired to do the job.
On timelines, Dune: Messiah is reportedly filming from July to December 2025. During that window, the plan is for Bond 26’s script to be written by a yet-to-be-named writer. Once Dune 3 moves into post-production, Denis Villeneuve will likely start to shift focus to Bond - first refining the script, then gradually splitting his time between both projects. By summer 2026, Dune post-production (VFX, editing, sound) should be wrapping up, allowing Denis to go full-time on Bond. That would put Bond 26 filming at its earliest in late 2026 or early 2027.
That begs the question: When do we hear who the next Bond is? And when does the film come out?
According to Variety, 2028 is the earliest realistic release (frustrating, but fair given the scale and timing). I think Amazon will aim for a spring 2028 release, likely around April or May (Easter window).
Looking back at other casting announcement for iconic film franchises: Corenswet as Superman, Pattinson as Batman, Holland as Spider-Man, Chalamet in Dune - all were cast roughly two years ahead of their respective films’ initially planned release dates.
We’ll hear who the next Bond is sometime between January and April 2026.
I agree with you. I think it's wishful thinking to think that they have any control at this point. I think they're passive investors. That was the whole point of the buyout from Amazon's perspective--to get Broccoli and Wilson out of the way of Amazon's plans.
Villeneuve will also likely have to devote a couple weeks in November/December 2026 to the Dune: Messiah press tour, which I think will rule out the possibility of production in 2026 and makes a 2027 start the more likely option.
