Lazenby was a great Bond. But at the time I resented him. What made it difficult for him was he was the first to take Connery's place. Moore had it easier, because we knew it was coming and he was known. As for the rest, we knew Bond would change every decade or so.

    1. Connery
    2. Craig/Lazenby
    4. Dalton
    5. Moore
    6. Brosnan

I think it's been *years* since I posted my ranking of the actors here. It hasn't changed at all since then, and it won't until after I eventually see Bond 26 with Bond actor #7. So an eternity. 😂 Anyway, here:

    1. Connery
    2. Craig
    3. Dalton
    4. Lazenby
    5. Moore
    6. Brosnan

Still sorry/not sorry, Pierce. GoldenEye made me a Bond fan after seeing it in the theaters at age 16, and I then ranked him second to Connery after seeing those first movies.

But 29+ years later, a lot had changed. I finally saw and appreciated the very underrated Lazenby and Dalton, and Daniel Craig came along and redefined Bond for me. I like Pierce, but everyone else is just better.

The toughest one of them all, since well I like all of them. But having now rewatched all the EON's and NSNA, I feel a new ranking is warranted. Here's my completely honest, though 100% subjective ranking:

    1. Timothy Dalton: a damn shame Tim didn't do more. He clearly studied the literary character and brings that complexity to the screen, though without losing his charm and savoir vivre along the way. Tim is such a wonderful actor that he can say more with his eyes than others could in an entire monologue.
    2. George Lazenby: I suppose this raises a few eyebrows, but George's Bond is such a human character, that OHMSS benefits greatly from it. That final scene is the best emotional scene in the series, and it's basically just George on his own. He also has the best fisticuffs skills of them all.
    3. Roger Moore: Rog's 007 is like an old friend who you would welcome at your table at any given moment. Such a joy to watch him wisecracking along, yet sometimes there's also room for genuine emotions too and one might forget he was also excellent at those.
    4. Sean Connery: a bit low of course, though not because I don't like him, it just happens that none of the ones above had a YOLT, where he just clearly wants to be playing golf instead. Having said that, the stylish and sophisticated gentleman spy was his creation and when he puts his back into it, it's nothing short of perfect.
    5. Pierce Brosnan: a man that seems to be born to wear dinner jackets, Pierce is an elegant fellow and rather good at both the humour and the serious bits, but by Jove he did get a few terrible lines to say and no-one looks good surfing on a CGI tsunami.
    6. Daniel Craig: obviously a fine actor, though it's the least elegant incarnation of them all for me, and that is something I need from my Bond. For my taste a bit too arrogant during the first half of CR, a bit dull in SF and in NTTD it's almost like he is just playing himself rather than Bond.
