    I'd rather he went scarless
  • I think the scar adds an edge to Bond that perhaps dispels the idea of "an invincible secret agent." Bond has been close to death and it shows.

Probably scarless if only because I shudder at the amount of work it would take to not only apply but match the scar every single day on set.

Depends on the actor who the scar is going to be present on. Ideally you'd want someone who makes the scar look "good", rather than it be a distraction. I think Dalton and Pierce would have made it work, for example - but I'm not sure about any of the others.

CGI scar. Morphs like Rorschach's mask to foreshadow story elements.

    That or for product placement.

Something that Calvin mentioned in his reaction video to First Light was that it was cool to see Bond with the scar on his cheek. He also mentioned that it would be a bit of a nightmare to see it on screen as the make up might be a challenge to do on an actor. He doubts we will ever see it on a screen Bond.

But since we are all about opinions and thoughts in this thread lets see what people would rather...

Would you rather screen Bond with a scar on his cheek OR no scar on his face?

This reminds me of Giuliano Gemma, a very good looking Italian actor from the 1960s/70s. He appeared in many Spaghetti Westerns, however he also did a James Bond spoof called "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang".

I often notice a small scar on his cheek, a single tiny imperfection on his otherwise immaculate facial features, and wondered about it. Apparently I'm not the only one, as it features in most of his internet biographies...

In 1944, while he was playing in the fields, he found an explosive device that went off in his face, causing several wounds, one of them still visible as a scar on his left cheek.

So yes a small scar can be easily visible in movie closeups, yes a scar does add to the mystique, and conclusively "Fleming wrote that Bond had a three-inch long, thin vertical scar running down his right cheek."

Depends, as long as we know where he have got that scar, in the books, it's acceptable of it being a part of his physical description, but in the films, nitpickers would probably ask where Bond got the scar, so, if they would show how Bond got it, maybe I'm all for it, but if the new Bond just revealed himself with a scar already on his cheek, no backstory or whatsoever, then no.

    Scarless
People would think that the scar is given to make the actor look tougher and more masculine.

I don't think there's any point in adding the scar as it's too cumbersome to apply every time for a film.

If they cast with a scar in mind, I'd be blown away. Plenty of people have facial scars. Otherwise I'm not interested. I will say Harry Potter managed a fake scar for 8 movies just fine.

Scarless but I think it would've been a nice touch if Bond got the scar after being tortured in DAD.

You think adding a small scar is too cumbersome. to apply every time...?

No scar. Simple, it looks silly putting the same scar on different actors. It implies continuity that's definitely out of the window since nttd

Maybe cumbersome wasn’t the right word! It’s more a case where it’s too much effort for a detail that doesn’t matter story wise and has no precedent in other Bond films.

Perhaps they can hire an actor who already has a scar in real life?

Make it a prerequisite when casting the role. like a younger version of Tommy Flanagan?

Tommy Flanagan, known for his role in "Sons of Anarchy," carries a "Glasgow Smile" scar from a knife attack.

Again, Harry Potter did it with a child actor. I'm sure a grown man can put up with a makeup chair.

I would love to see it if only to challenge the long held belief that disfigurement equals evil. I was shocked that the producers felt the need to give Le Chiffre the bleeding eye. This is 2006 I would have thought we would be past this antiquated view.

Lets move on. During Roger's era we had a case of a returning character. One villain and the other an ally, though of some questionable pedigree. Both times as far as I can tell these characters returned due to the audience enjoying them on screen so much. In one case the creative team had to get real creative shoehorning the returning character in.

Lets see if they producers were correct in bringing back the character!

Would you rather watch Sheriff J.W. Pepper in LALD OR TMWTGG?

Please consider the performance and just the character. Which film had the better appearance of this character.

In LALD we see the Sheriff in his natural habitat. At home in Lousiana. Our Sheriff was a bewildered mess. Often the punch line to his jokes. He had an air of racism and was a buffoon that seemed to mess up more than fix. I love his line "On whose side!!!!"

In TMWTGG we see the Sheriff as a fish out of water. Suddenly thrust into a high speed chase this version seems to be just as racist and just as uncouth as the first film appearance. He tumbles, and bumbles but seems to enjoy tagging along with Bond.

So which film would you rather watch in order to take in the Sheriff in his glory?

Much prefer him in LALD. He should have been a one-off character IMO.

LALD where he was relevant to his surroundings

In TMETGG he was a fish out of water, but not in a good way.

BTW You may consider that disfigured villainy is an antiquated concept, bit it is also pure Fleming.

LALD because at least he had purpose in the film as one of the Sheriffs of a respective county, he was right in place.

In TMWTGG he was obviously put in there as none other than a comic relief, no use whatsoever, and to top off it all, his racist remarks are also very annoying due to how out of place he was, he had no purpose there, he's just there so AMC could promote their cars for Product Placement 😅 as he had led us to that car flip which wouldn't have happened had JW Pepper didn't bought that car.

Agreed, Pepper is not needed in TMWTGG!

I think his shorter time in TMWTGG is better, as it makes the car chase progress quickly, than the boat chase in LALD.
