I have a new appreciation for GF, but FRWL is still even better imo.

FRWL for sure. Flawless. First Connery-era Bond film I saw, 30 years ago now. A lot of romance in this one - Bond with Sylvia; Gypsy girls; Tanya; the travel by train; title song and credits. Great sniper scenes. Realistic spy gadgetry. Formidable villain ensemble. Two vehicles chases in a row near the climax. Unmatched at #1.

FRWL, most of the time. But why not both?😊

Nice to see both films get some love.

This next would you rather might be a contrast in styles.

Would you rather watch DN (95%) OR Casino Royale (94%)?

The first Bond adventure against the first Bond adventure by a new actor. We have Bond at his cinematic beginnings against a Bond being re-booted.

DN is an example of getting every penny worth of the budget. We have Ken Adam sets that show amazing on screen. We have Bond jet setting to Jamaica. An eclectic soundtrack and some wonderful Caribbean vibes.

RT states Featuring plenty of the humor, action, and escapist thrills the series would become known for, Dr. No kicks off the Bond franchise in style.

    OR

CR a new fella taking on the role. Bombastic action is matched by a depth of story telling. We have the first Bond novel finally given proper treatment. A rocking main title song and great title sequence that pays homage to DN.

RT states Casino Royale disposes of the silliness and gadgetry that plagued recent James Bond outings, and Daniel Craig delivers what fans and critics have been waiting for: a caustic, haunted, intense reinvention of 007.

So which one is likely to find it's way to your screen?

    Oh, CR for sure!

DN is very good, but it's the first Bond film, not the best in my opinion. Excellent stuff in there (Bond's introduction is iconic) but you can tell the series is still trying to find its footing. CR is a classic Bond film on the same level as GF, FRWL, GE, TSWLM, SF etc in terms of how it's regarded. It's just one that you can revisit easily and one general audiences often cite as their favourite Bond film (in my experience anyway). DN doesn't quite have that.

I don't really like DN, so it's CR every time. It's just a much more powerful experience, it still packs a serious punch, both in how visceral and exciting it is and with how affecting it can be. DN is stylish and has period appeal, but I wouldn't say it's on the same level as a film experience.

FRWL over GF, CR over DN. Love all four, but the choices are clear enough.

I rate CR very highly, maybe #2 (DN would just make it into my top 10), but right now at this minute I feel like watching DN.

CR for me, easily, and one of the best experiences I've had at the cinema, came out of screening elated!
DN is good, but the films improved greatly after it!

    CasinonRoyale

Don't like the third act of either picture. Both Tier 2 Bond in my book, but I'd watch both back to back every night regardless.

CR is a better movie (and in my top 5), but at the moment I'd choose DN for purely nostalgic reasons.

I am a tad surprised that DN held it's own against CR. Pleasantly surprised.

For me I think it would be CR, but I am not have a fan of the pacing of the ending of the film. Seems quite a bit of padding and false finishes.

Okay this next one is an interesting one.

Would you rather watch SF (92%) OR TB (85%)?

Rotten Tomatoes says this about SF

Sam Mendes brings Bond surging back with a smart, sexy, riveting action thriller that qualifies as one of the best 007 films to date.

Craig's third film has quite a journey, a great villain, some questionable treatment of the female character. It has some charm and gives us a peek into the roots of Bond.

OR TB which Rotten tomatoes says:

Lavishly rendered set pieces and Sean Connery's enduring charm make Thunderball a big, fun adventure, even if it doesn't quite measure up to the series' previous heights.

This was the height of Bondmania but some find the pacing off. Young left the film in a bit of a mess and it was up to Hunt to edit something coherent at the end.

Which one is more likely going on your screen?

Oh, of course it’s TB! Every time! Can’t fault it…very exciting Bond film with an energetic performance from Connery!

SF vs. TB? DN vs. CR? :-?

Wow, these are tough. A lot comes down to my mood on that particular day. Purely based on which film I think is better overall, I would choose .....
    ....... Skyfall.

I'd go for Thunderball but only just.

Skyfall is easily the most over-rated entry in the series, whereas TB suffers from The Goldfinger Effect.

Just for focusing on fun does TB get the nod.

    TB > SF

The biggest Bond of all vs the highest-grossing Bond of all. Connery's Bondmania vs Craig's Bondmania.

TB is a Top 10 entry for me what with all the tropical traveling, risky romancing, luna lurking, scuba scurrying.

Frustratingly, it took 10 years for SF to 100% 'click', but on that anniversary I finally understood why others loved the film. I think what was initially jarring was that it was filmed/directed differently to what I knew as a Bond movie.
