It's starting to make sense now because Denis Villeneuve said his secret project had to happen "quite quickly", or something to that effect. That quote never sat right with me because for someone like Denis November 2026 is a long time away, at it usually only takes him 2 years to complete a film from start to finish. But if they have their actor ready, it might be that EON are looking to commit to filming early next year, and that's what he meant by "quite quickly". It also makes sense that if Villeneuve wants a break from Dune, that this timing for Bond would line up with his. We perhaps could see a November 2025 or April 2026 release, that would be very exciting. At the very least, it would mean we can expect the flow of news to ramp up heavily from now on.

I can't trust that "newspaper" at all, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

I'd be disappointed with ATJ's casting to be honest, we've waited so long for news on Bond #7's casting that he feels an underwhelming choice.
There are better choices in my opinion

Well, according to this article, we should know by this week. I’ll bet some good blockbuster stores, there is no signing by week’s end…

Thanks for finding that link @mtm
That story was from back in December 2022!
Looks like it might be a slow news day, and they've dusted this old bit of click bait out.

Firstly, we haven't seen a foot of film with him as bond yet, probably best to withhold judgement too harshly one way or another.

I see where you're coming from, but there's a lot of WORSE choices out there too, and there's nothing worse than an outright BAD choice becoming bond for the next however many years. I look at it like as long as they look like they could make a decent bond, then it's a bullet dodged IMO. And for me, that's exactly what ATJ is. Not ideal, but far from terrible.

On Breakfast TV this morning, both ITV and Sky News were running this as one of their main stories, that ATJ will be the next Bond.

If this is true, I am ok with this. In fact I am more happy about this casting than I was when Craig was first announced (and he turned out decent in the end!)

So it would appear based on this story, that no one else tested for the role.
At least no other actors have come forward and admitted that they have taken part in screen tests.
Especially with this story breaking all over the world today, you would think someone would crack and reveal that they too had auditioned but lost out.
    Seems odd doesn't it?

    It's Tuesday.

They said he signs by the end of the week-- and they're not talking Sunday of this week. They're talking by Friday.

So if this is true, then we will know, by the latest, in three days.

But if he doesn't sign, can I sell a few Blockbuster stores to a few of you? Guaranteed, great price!

Normally the ones who auditioned probably signed an NDA and are legally bound so they cannot reveal it until an announcement is officially made.

Do they have to be sold by the end of 2024, in order to make the most profit by 2026?
I'll have to pass, as I don't think I have the budget for it. ;)

Aaron Taylor Johnson: Long speculated as the front runner. Was seen at the Omega event last year. Was seen holidaying at Goldeneye last year. Friends of Barbara Broccoli.
If he is officially announced I won't be in the least bit surprised. Feels like the worst kept secret in Hollywood. He's a solid choice, but I'm honestly MORE interested in who the director will be. Is it going to be a true visionary genius / auteur (Denis Villenenue / Christopher Nolan) or another Roger Spottiswoode? If it's the latter, then it doesn't matter who they put in the role. It'll just be a man in a tuxedo. We need a great script and a great director. When we know that, then I'll start to get excited. Until, my Don Perignon 53 remains on ice.

No auditions for James Bond, Batman, Superman, would be very odd . And doesn't pass the sniff test at all.

What is odder, if this is locked, is that none of the industry media are reporting this "breaking story".

If Variety, Deadline and Hollywood Reporter start to publish this, then the anti-ATJ faction should be worried.

If they don't (and I don't think they will), then you can sleep just fine.

The last story (I linked to in my previous post) said he had been cast and would be unveiled as Bond in March… 2023. So I’d say we probably already know if it’s true or not! :)
Just for perspective, the U.K. papers were running a humorous story about Harrison Ford’s doctor playing the Indiana Jones theme when he was having a colonoscopy; a story Ford told in an awards speech about seven or eight years ago. John Williams mentioned it in an interview last week.

Honestly, we’ll only know for sure that Eon had picked an actor if they set plans for a big press release. Eon LOVES nothing more than big press releases. I’d say we should wait for that sort of thing before seriously considering that something big may be announced within the week.

I've always wanted to see Aaron Taylor Johnson as Bond.

I also hope these films will turn into psychological thriller period pieces with a bit of action on the side. Hey, I can dream... :)

    So if he doesn't sign by the end of the week, then presumably the deal is off? 8-}

Like the shooting of the gun barrel, which was reported in December 2022 that he would be revealed to the world in March 2023. Also from the Sun.

I have no real problem with ATJ, I think they can (and will) find better.
I'm amazed how many people get so sucked up in this. Even if it feels like forever since we've had any news, I'd rather get excited for some credible news. Rather than a basic rehash of a story over a year ago.

Even if ATJ doesn't end up becoming bond at least we have a clearer idea of how far they are from production getting underway. Auditioning actors means there is a script of some kind floating around. I think there could be more updates coming before the end of April, fingers crossed.

@jetsetwilly , if the new 007 was about to sign, this would be the breaking news, not the fired co-founder of Verve ready to sign with Paradigm.

And, unlike the Sun, or Sky, or whatever, who are just repeating the Sun’s “report”, this IS in Deadline’s wheelhouse, as it is in the wheelhouse of The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. This is their bread and butter, and not even a peep from them (and these outlets actually have legitimate entertainment reporters).

I don’t have a horse in this race, but to think a script is being worked on now (the only thing in the “report” I believe), and they cast not only without auditions, without a script, but by coronation, is the biggest BS signal in this entire joke… if ATJ ever becomes Bond, it’ll be after a heavy vetting process and audition process. There is t a shortcut to the role.

If he doesn’t sign by Friday, can we agree to put this one to bed? Forever, 😂?

It’s simple: he signs as they promise, or no signing happens.

I’m betting all of my Blockbuster Stores (which I’ll sell to you at good prices), the latter will end up happening.
