Well i know i will have to turn in my bond fan card for this but Ritchie directing and Cavill as Bond and Cary ewells as M

Personally i would love it but i know i am the only one

Also where do i turn in my Bond fan card for suggesting something so outrageous

I think Madonna would do a better job directing a Bond film than Ritchie would.

    Seriously.

I'd watch both Bond movies, or a movie co-directed by both. Madonna does the music and love scenes, Ritchie everything else lol.

Seriously though, if I was Eon, I would meet with Ritchie for his action ideas. I think under a heavy guiding hand from producers, he'd do good action work at least. It wouldn't be the most compelling picture, I imagine, but he did deliver Aladdin for Disney so who's to say he can't do the same with Bond and good script?

I do appreciate some Ritchie. Some. But I agree completely.
And no Madonna, not ever again, please...

All I'll say is that while I think I'd be interested to see what he'd do, I feel Ritchie would create something so heavily stylised that I can imagine it feeling like an outlier against other entries within the next era.

I like Ritchie, but I’m not sure if he’s right. I feel his action scenes, while often fun and great, can feel a bit too stylised for Bond (I don’t mean in terms of concept or stunt, but simply in terms of how they’re shot and edited if that makes sense). I’d say the same about the likes of Mathew Vaughn or Gareth Evans. I’d prefer to see a director more used to stripping things back.

That said having seen Filth and Wisdom, I’m not sure if Madonna should direct at all, much less a Bond film.

That's why I think Ritchie is a good option. I don't want another Michael Apted.

“We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past,” Wilson said. “But trying to visualize it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something. He isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a 30-something.”

It's disingenuous for MG Wilson to say:

“We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past,” Wilson said. “But trying to visualize it doesn’t work.

MG Wilson is fully aware Paul Haggis was hired to write a Casino Royale screenplay featuring a twenty eight year old James Bond.
Haggis returned to his hotel room to work on his polish of the 21st James Bond film, "Casino Royale." "It's going to be good," he says. "We're trying to reinvent Bond. He's 28: no Q, no gadgets."

    28. Not over 30. Casino Royale was greenlit for a younger Bond and ideally a younger actor would have been the correct casting.

It was reported Daniel Craig and Henry Cavill were the final two candidates. In 2005 Henry Cavill was 22 years old. Martin Campbell wanted Cavill to play the part.

I accept film making can change. Things change during the production, but it does irk me when Wilson says stuff that isn't accurate. We have the internet so it's easy to check facts! He and B Broccoli wanted a younger Bond in 2005 so it's not as if they had a 'never consider anyone under 30' policy. And given that Bond 26 is the first complete reboot in the franchise's history, Bond can be 20, 25, 30 etc.

Well, they hired Craig after all. MGW didn't lie.

@bondywondy , he said what they did: looked at younger actors (Cavill being 22 during auditions). They just found that older actors bring more weight, hence the older, more seasoned actor in Craig ultimately winning the part.

    Why’d you think he’s lying?

So we are in agreement that it should be late 30’s early 40’s

Exactly, and they will do the same this time

I wouldn’t disagree that this is the ideal age range but it should not be cast in stone.

What does Eva's body language say about Turner's chances? I mean of being the next Bond, obvs...

Has anyone been watching Masters of the Air? Turner is easily the best part of this however, I worry it will make him too much of a star for EON.

Turner's also got that enigmatic face that's needed for Bond. I would say it's between him, Thomas Doherty and ATJ for Bond 7.

I think they could stretch it to 36-37 depending on the actor, but yeah more or less agree. I want a few films of Bond in his prime.

I don’t see what Thomas Doherty’s done to put himself in contention other than look like Sean Connery. He was fine in that vampire film but nothing special imo. Bond needs a credible leading man. Has Doherty got any performances worth watching that show he has that in him?

I'm sorry, but Callum Turner just doesn't convey Bond too me.
He is a fine actor, don't get me wrong, I find nothing wrong about that. However something about his look, doesn't suggest James Bond too me. I can't pinpoint what it is, but I'd be initially disappointed if he was cast.
I'd still give him the benefit of the doubt, but he'd really have to sell it too me.

Yeah, I get what you mean @thelivingroyale But as always, we never know until a candidate is cast, though. I know the Sean Connery resemblance would always be a thing attached to him and would make him seem unoriginal in the public's eyes, even before he's allowed to show his own style.
  • Do you guys use TikTok? It appears they had a barney and split up (Dua & Callum) and he's been in a bit of a mood lately.

Yeah exactly. Some actors can project gravitas and come across as older even in their late twenties or early 30s (ie. Sean Connery). Others have to mature a bit into the role and still bring vigour and freshness to it (I’d put Brosnan and Dalton in this category).

The next actor could be as young as 28, or as old as 42. But I think the big take-away from what MGW was saying is that they’re not going to, from past experience, play up Bond’s youth but depict him as essentially seasoned.
