Ok my posts are attacked a lot because of the gangster mafia you get on this site, because you don't agree with the mafia your hounded & others are afraid to respond, well I guess it's time to leave for good. Wish there was a button to delete ones profile, but can't find one. It's a shame that you can't debate or have a different opinion to others without being attacked but I guess that's why the world no longer works.

So farewell & take care Bond fans.

PS: NTTD still sucks big time.

Don't leave mate, I appreciate your opinions here. You're among many with the same opinion, the movie sucked.

I'm utterly baffled by them killing off Craig's Bond. Why even do that, just to piss people off? This is going to have repercussions for all Bonds going forward, assuming that there'll be any. Bond had a semblance of immortality up to now, going through various incarnations throughout the decades. Actually killing him on-screen is such a betrayal of the cinematic character as well as the fans. What were the producers thinking?

Agreed. As someone said earlier, the box office is going to take a big hit with the lack of repeat business.

There's no problem in not liking the film. You're not alone in that. It's a divisive flick, after all.

I can definitely see that. I've seen all the Bonds in theaters since Goldeneye. Saw CR and QOS twice each, not even gonna watch NTTD once on any screen.

    I guess we can throw “universally acclaimed by the fans” out the window for NTTD. 8-}

When Safin said to Bond "I want the world to evolve", the camera was showing Craig while he said that, did anyone notice Craig mouthing the line as Safin was saying it? I spotted it and thought it was odd they left that in..

I don’t know if you guys saw this on the other thread but the friend I’m going to see it with on Thursday (I decided to go ahead), has been to every Bond film opening night since DN. The only Bond films I’ve missed in the theater since GF have been OHMSS and TND.

That’s truly special to see it with someone who’s seen every Bond since the beginning. Not a lot of people out there left can make that claim, and it’s sadly lessening. Definitely cherish that. Bond has been around for almost more than half of cinema’s existence, which is crazy to think of.

I genuinely hope you get something out of it in spite of creative decisions you can’t agree with. At least you know what’s coming, and that will soften the blow.

I’ve seen them at the theatre since A View To A Kill. To see them all since Dr. No is extremely impressive. It has crossed my mind to try it Thursday, but I just can’t make myself do it as of now. Hope the viewing is better than we think. Just curious: does your friend know the ending?

I just left the theaters and I am deeply in sorrow for such an unexpected ending.
I literally cried a river when I saw the death scene. I am still very, very sad. I'm not exactly angry at the director, or the producers or anything; the movie is beautiful, but I think that this ending just doesn't fit 007.

Just like one of us here on this very thread who said that Bond had a semblance of immortality for decades, now they just shoved up a freakin death of the character up on the screen... It got me in tears, Many tears. I was definitely not waiting for that.

I grew up watching 007 as my hero. He kills the villain, LIVES, and gets the girl at the end, that's it. I was expecting a very huge evolution of the character throughout the years, of course, but I wasn't expecting them to humanize Bond in such a way. And by "Humanizing him" I mean, to make him absolutely vulnerable. When he was just taking a few hits back in Skyfall I was ok, but now... Why did he need to "sacrifice"?
After Safin's shots and after him poisoning Bond I was kinda desperate on my seat. I immediately thought, "OK, so now he's poisoned, they'll probably do something like Mission Impossible, where Ethan and Julia are separated and they never reach each other for the rest of their lives, it's all right it might work and Bond can just move on" but no. They HAD to kill him.

I am still shocked and I believe that this has maybe even traumatized me. No kidding.
You tell me, "Oh come on it's just a character, for Christ's Sake get over it" no, it is not just a character - for me.
I grew up with 007 as much as you guys did. Bond was always a symbol of heroism, courage, wit, and strength for me. He still is, but from now on I could never see him with the same eyes I used to see him 2 days ago. From now on in the next films, I will be expecting him to die or take even more gunshots. I know many of you will accept his death without any problems but I can't. They killed one of the biggest essences that Bond was and I am in absolute shock. It was too much for me and it'll probably take a long time for me to get over it.

Again, this film is beautiful. I didn't feel like it was too long or anything, it was perfect. My only problem is the ending. I can see critics and people saying, "How is Bond going to come back with another actor if they killed him in the last film?" or something like that.

I see that NTTD's ending could be a script for any other generic action film for a new character or something like that, but just not for James Bond.

I apologize for this long text and I also apologize if I offended anyone or if I go against anyone's opinions. I had to say these things and that's how I feel, so please, I shall ask you to respect my point of view.

No need for apologies. I understand completely, and a lot of us feel the exact same way. I’ve walked around in a fog for two days and I haven’t even seen it. Likely won’t either. I just don’t want that image in my head, but I ask myself this: will I see it some day anyhow? Should I just try to trudge through what will be an ultra emotional beating? Or try to avoid it. It’s not an easy question for me to answer. Daniel Craig as Bond is my hero (yes, I’m 45, you can laugh).

Without over-spoiling, can someone tell me if Bond and Madelaine have better chemistry here than they do in SP? (Yes, I know the "big" one).
Not really. I don't buy that they are so in love. For 2 movies the have been arguing and mistrusting each other. And before spending 5 years apart without speaking to each other, they have been together for like what...a couple of weeks? Bond had more chemistry with Paloma, and they only shared screen time for 10 minutes.

Them trying to force the Bond/Madeleine relationship always makes me want to watch OHMSS or CR instead.

I understand. I can’t imagine seeing it unprepared. This is the first time I ever spoiled a James Bond movie for myself. I Never go the spoiler route. Just had a bad feeling about NTTD. Unfortunately, I was right. Well, keep in mind you aren’t alone in how you feel! Hopefully there is some solace in that. How I wish this was Nov 2006 and all the buzz was about Casino Royale again. Sigh.

Lea's role is much improved in NTTD. Better chemistry, definitely. And gave her so much more to work with for her character.

I wish the entire film had the incredible vibe that was set in Matera, that just felt Bondian to me. It had everything this film should have been, passion, romance and the sense of danger that makes Bond what it is.

We should have stayed in Matera longer, the moment the film leaves there you can feel an odd tonal shift that was jarring and unexplained

@ProfJoeButcher Who are these people you talk about? They don't exist. You have brought together odd comments here and there and constructed a mythical Bond fan who you are railing against.

I, for one, don't think any of these things you describe. So who does?

I also think that just because someone might struggle in the moment to perfectly articulate why they don't like a film, it doesn't mean that they are wrong or that their ideas about the film are stupid or ill informed. We've all only seen it once or twice! And remember how DAD got good reviews back in 2001...?

You seem to get very offended when someone says they don't like SP or NTTD. And I happen to think that being excited or in hysterics because some fans hate the film is a very odd reaction for a supposed Bond fan.

I want a Bond film that we mostly all like. I want Bond fans to be happy. For example, I am cool on the film right now, but I am genuinely happy that you and other fans had a great time with it.

Anyway, peace. I know that if we were in a room we could judge each other's tone and there would be less animosity. So no hard feelings I hope?

    Absolutely no hard feelings!

This is Marmite Bond for sure. I can get not liking it at all because of the ending. And I was sincere when I said I sympathize with folks who hate the last couple movies, because I'm sure my time will come in that regard too! And I was ready for disappointment with NTTD. I'd been spoiled about Bond's fate, and I had a sick feeling about it.

But someone was bringing out the "real fan" card. And there are definitely many people who only really like GE and CR of the last nine movies. Comments to the effect that only Martin Campbell gets Bond, and Barbara doesn't understand/like Bond or whatever. And lots of us (myself included) tolerate a lot more silliness from classic movies we grew up with than we do from whatever the new movie is.

But I count these folks as fans, and it seems weird to suggest I'm not a Bond fan because I like more Bond movies...! And in that specific line of mine about fan antipathy being a good sign for me, I was alluding to the fact I really like all of the hated/controversial films (DAF is my favorite Connery!). My least favorites are a few of the franchise-saving classics loved by all...so in that context I'd understand that accusation a bit more! ;)

Anyway, it's not the first time I apparently sounded more obnoxious than intended, and I appreciate your graceful reply. Some people use online interactions to be deliberately jerky, and others sometimes come across the wrong way. I've definitely had the latter more than once. You are kind and correct to assume an in-person chat would be unambiguously lovely! :)

CR this film ain't, unfortunately. That was probably the last time all Bond fans came together and rejoiced alike with the critics. After that, SF, but even that had its detractors at the time.

This film will divide the fan base like no other, which is maybe what EON wanted. Or maybe just what DC wanted. Kill his character off, and to hell with the consequences. And the producers indulged and allowed his wishes. just to stop him walking away and coming back to do one more film.

Looking back now at CR, it is worlds apart from NTTD. All the problems with this film looks like they have come from the actor being given too much power creatively, at the expense of the integrity of the franchise. I could be wrong, but this is what appears like from the outside.

I guess the reasoning behind the the finale was a 'clean sweep' And we are leaving Craig's rebooted timeline and back to the main one, or to another rebooted one all together.

I still don't like it, but I guess that's the rationale.

I guess that's partly it, yeah. They don't want this time line to be perpetual, and they don't want general audiences thinking Bond #7 was with Vesper and everything else.

I really like and appreciate the way NTTD wraps up Bond's story arc. CR is superb, I think NTTD is superb. Daniel has given us a very realistic, physically brutal and extremely fit Bond - but also one who is vulnerable and emotional, and that is so different from all the other Bonds. Which is not just a good thing; it's great.

Daniel Craig's Bond films have opened a whole new look at Bond, letting us see into him in a realistic way. So it seems important to me that this particular Bond's story is finished in a fitting way. This is an appropriate, heroic, noble ending that fits. This ending would only work with Daniel's Bond. I am satisfied that we were given this particular story to sum up his tenure. It works well. We have the right director, cinematographer, cast, and story. I have only small quibbles regarding the villain.

I do savor Craig's films. It's a different set - modern, relentless, refreshing, and rewarding to this lifelong Bond fan (well, since age 15). The NEXT Bond will be different, as it should be, and will take us on different journeys. That's fine, the way it should be.

Which is just my opinion, of course. But my opinion is as strong as others who have opposite views. We are all fans. I think we have enough different kind of Bond actors and Bond films so there is something everybody can enjoy ... just not enjoy the same things every time a new Bond film comes out. I realize we will differ at times; I respect people who dislike something I like and can express that civilly; I rejoice when I find another person who values and enjoys NTTD. The world carries on, and I look forward to the next Bond film. Meanwhile, I am enjoying NTTD very much indeed. It is a stunning, beautiful, moving, yet genuinely divisive Bond film. And I'm here for it. Cheers! B-)

    +1

And maybe a bit of silver lining for folks who don't like what happened: I feel like the death of this somewhat darker Bond makes it at least a little more likely that we get a return to some lighter, more traditional one-off adventures with the next guy. The CR-NTTD book is decidedly closed now, and I doubt they want to repeat the same thing.
