If CR was in the mix, I'd probably go with that. All of those nominated are good, but my pick is TSWLM.

Casino Royale is the best in my eyes. But off this list I nominate Goldeneye. It's not a film anywhere near the top of my favourites, but the title sequence and song are terrific and meaningful.

It’s Brownjohn for Goldfinger for me.

So stunning simple and sharp, it’s a design classic in a way none of the others are. I’m sure it’s referenced in many design textbooks because it’s so pure and clear. And yet there’s even an occasional joke in there too!

    It’s amazing.
Plus he even designed the film poster too so they match.

Same. Also very much love DN, TB and QOS.

Of the nominated, I will give it to GE. (GF and DAD are also great)

Max was delighted to accept his first Bondie for his critically acclaimed performance in FYEO and thanks the academy for their generous recognition. Unfortunately Max is unavailable for comment today, having spent the day taking calls of congratulations from world leaders

Therefore it falls to me as Deputy Prime Minister of the DRP to announce our nomination goes to TSWLM, Roger’s trampolining skills are indeed a feast to our eyes.

Maurice Binder for On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Love the scenes from previous Bond films being put in the titles. Honorable mention to the unnominated Maurice Binder for Thunderball and You Only Live Twice and to Daniel Kleinman for Casino Royale.

Agree. I'd say Casino Royale would be a close second.

I have to give it to Maurice Binder, and though i'm not crazy about the movie, I do love the titles for TSWLM, Binder at his cheekiest!

Given there's a distinct difference in eras from Binder/Brownjohn's works to Kleinman's from GE till now, shouldn't this be divided into 2 categories, classic and modern? It seems like there's a lot of love to go around.

If forced to choose, OHMSS was the first that came to mind and still my personal favorite all around. But the GE-SP have classics in their own right.

Interesting point and one the nominations committee shall consider for future. I had trouble narrowing it down to just 5. CR, YOLT, and even DN were considered for the nominations. Ultimately I made some tough choices to get it to 5.

Of these, I'd have to go with Goldeneye. I hate the actual golden eye(s), but the rest is top notch.

TSWLM. Among many items, Moore Bond walking up to female Russian soldiers and pushing them over like dominoes is a superb visual. GE has some similarly great moments related to the Cold War.

My favorite moment in all the titles is the beginning of Skyfall, and the two fingers grabbing Bond and drawing him downward. And Casino Royale rates, with the Vesper reveal and Bond turning and firing his gun as some type of salute.

The beginning of the Skyfall TS as you described really is amazing.
  • Has to be Maurice Binder as far as I'm concerned. I'll go with OHMSS.

Must admit that bit always annoys me: I always wonder why he didn't put them out of phase once they'd stopped marching so they fell down one by one and actually fell like dominos!
    :)

TSWLM does have great Roger poses though. So good that Maurice picked them out of the bin and used them again for AVTAK!

So many good entries to chose from. But for me, the best is still TSWLM. The naked lady doing gymnastics on a pistol always gets me.

+1. The langour of the song with her movements clinches it.

Why why why couldn't CR be nominated?
With that said, The spy who loved me for the win

I swear DAD getting nominated is the equivalent of Bohemian Rhapsody getting nominated for best picture (I like both, but they don't really deserve to be there). I'm going to go with Kleinman however, with GoldenEye. I love the destruction of the Soviet icons, and there is some really cool imagery throughout.

They're all good, but TSWLM wins simply because it's just inspired. Nothing beats a lady doing gymnastics on a gun barrel!

The song helps as well... 😁

Some great thoughts and votes continue! As always if you have a category and some nominees please message me and I shall add it to the queue. I have set us on a pattern of 2 Bondies and then back to 2 Klebbies.

I love all the new members of academy that we are seeing wade in with votes and thoughts! We have a nice group of diversity.

I always watch out for the lady who runs across the screen, fires a guns and runs off again!! 🥰

@Mathis1. Some years ago, 007 magazine did a “behind the scenes” feature on Binder. And while, I don’t need to remind anyone, there was lots of actual nudity! And of course, the titles for TMWTGG are something else :😊

    Among the choices here:
    5. DAD/Kleinman – Menacing.
    4. GE/Kleinman – Visually it sets the stage for “post-cold-war” Bond.
    5. GF/Brownjohn – you really have to admire his work here (and on FRWL) - and for the fact that he actually moved to the UK in the late 1950s for its’ liberal drug laws 😊. Post Bond, he also did the cover for the Rolling Stone’s “Let It Bleed” album. BTW:Back in 2012, the Museum of Modern Art – as part of its’ “Bond at 50” screenings, put together a large exhibit of his work.
    2. OHMSS/Binder - I really like the “regal” symbolism of Binder’s work here. And it gives us a chance to gaze again at Ursula Andress, Honor Blackman, etc.
    1. TSWLM/Binder – Together with Carly Simon’s vocals, this works as an excellent visual “summary” of “James Bondness.”

Among those not listed here, the titles for CR (Kleinman) always get my blood pumping.

Yeh, i have that issue of 007 Mag. Roger tells an amusing story of him and Cubby walking in on one of Maurices shoots, and seeing him rubbing vaseline on one of his ladies pubic hairs. I think Rog quipped something like "And you're paying him too?!"

I would have easily picked CR if listed, but then again I like Binder's OHMSS, Lazenby's Bond saying the famous line before it begins. But I'll go with GE, it takes us into a Gunbarrel and out of a Gunbarrel, the figures are Gargantuan and the sequence is sparsely populated, creating an eerie atmospheric feel to fit the Russian plot....Great stuffs.
