Blimey, I miss one day and already two awards have been given out!

Oh well, I’ll get in quick with the DRP vote going to SP (can’t recall a single moment of it apart from the Day of the Dead PTS). GE has over time become quite a favourite in the birdcage, but then again we hear different frequencies from humans.

It's funny this bird thought of a certain parrot when I was posting the soundtrack award. I thought @Max_The_Parrot was going to squawk!!! :) I mean this is a good way. I have to learn that just because voting has slowed down I shouldn't just jump to the next.

I see we have another award that is causing the votes to be varied! Love it as I think it makes the outcome more interesting. I think music is very personal at times and causes the most reaction for that reason.

I actually really like the LTK score!

Anyway, I don't like the music of DN, but there's still Underneath the Mango Tree and the Bond Theme. FYEO and GE aren't great (particularly the latter) but SP is my pick for this Klebbie. Most of it is just reused tracks from SF stripped of their context, and the new stuff is just unmemorable.

I mean the correct answer here is NSNA, which consistently avoids a tune and has a style at odds with the movie.

SP does have several good tracks for me (someone earlier listed the transitional cues and the pts) but Mendes undoes it all with referring back to Skyfall which happens too often. Plus that run of tracks in London when it keeps hammering The Moors for 20 minutes.

DN is limited in comparison to how John Barry revolutionised action movie scoring, but it’s serviceable.

I like the guitars of LTK, and his Bond theme is rousing.

FYEO is cheesy but pretty good and that gunbarrel kicks.

GE has one of the worst tracks in Ladies First. But I like the industrial sounds. The Bond theme on drums I like, plus all of the pts intruder stuff. Some beautiful romantic themes for Natalya and the casino. Run Shoot Jump works well as an action theme for the satellite (he should have done something similar for the tank chase).

I guess I will go Spectrebut I’ve warmed to it

DN. The soundtrack music from Monty Norman is the worst.

SP wins this by a wide margin, IMHO. At least Serra tried.

Hehe yes just remember us parrots are a bit slow, lazy and scatterbrained compared to the graceful @thedove! :)

You're forgetting Jamaica Jump-Up, (the song everybody's dancing to in Puss-Feller's club) which is quite the bouncy little number. Yes, most of the incidental music in DN is pretty fifties-bland... but with JJU, Mango Tree, and the introduction of the Bond theme I'm willing to give DV a pass. I would agree that NSNA's soundtrack is just hideous and deserves the win... but since it hasn't been nominated I'll shrug & look elsewhere. The only music I really remember from FYEO (aside from the theme which is....okay but not great...) is the atrociously cheesy song being played around the swimming pool before Gonzales gets hit by Melina's crossbow bolt. Ew. Yes, I know it's designed to make us dislike everybody lounging around that pool, but geeze, mission way more than accomplished. I'll give the nod to FYEO just for that piece of aural excrescence (which, for the record and because I bothered to look it up, is called "Make it Last All Night" and they really didn't need to go to all that trouble on my account.)

Thomas Newman's SP without a shred of doubt.

I am a big Eric Serra defender, of course. I'd say his GE soundtrack is one of the best.

Kamen's LTK is pretty good too in my book.

Oh the wonderful lyrics for that song @BeatlesSansEarmuffs

Try to hold it down and take it slow
    And just enjoy the motion
If you just relax and push it back
    There is no limitation
Ooh, ooh, ooh, can you feel it inside you
Ooh, ooh, ooh, can you feel it inside me, too

Try and keep it up and ease it in
    To get that good vibration
You can come too late, then have to wait
    To get that good sensation
Ooh, ooh, ooh, can you feel it movin' smooth and slow
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ease on back and let the lovin' flow

Gotta take your time and level out
    It's not an innovation
If you count to ten and back again
    It's not just calculation
Ooh, ooh, ooh, can you feel it inside you
Ooh, ooh, ooh, can you feel it inside me, too
Ooh, ooh, ooh, can you feel it movin' smooth and slow
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ease on back and let the lovin' flow

Easy, baby, if I burn up, there's no need to feel so tight
Be lovin', be gentle, be patient, make it last all night, last all night
Be lovin', be gentle, be patient, make it last all night, last all night
Be lovin', be gentle, be patient, make it last all night, last all night

I wonder what they are talking about? :)

I don't think it's reasonable to consider the actual music worse than Norman's or Serra's based solely on the apparent laziness of the composer.

I think some also factor in Newman's greatest sin of all time: Replacing David Arnold. For some fans, that can't be forgiven.

    SPECTRE. Very forgettable.

But FYEO is definitely dated and Dr. is only good because of the songs and the bond theme. LTK is alright while GE works regarding atmosphere.

These might be fair points, and as for the reusing of the material from Skyfall, it is not technically Newman's fault. But for whatever reason, it is still a bland score. But yes, worth pointing out it is the soundtrack, and not the composer, we are putting in the bin.

Newman for SPECTRE. There's a difference between carrying over melodies and themes from prior films and mixing it to suit the style of the current film and then what was done in SP. Which was just lift nearly the same exact tracks and retread them nearly exactly as used previously. It was so jarring for me, that it actually took me out of the PTS when I first saw the film in theaters.
A soundtrack is meant to compliment and elevate what you're seeing on screen, and SP does the exact opposite which was to distract from what's happening on screen.

I did enjoy SF too for the record, but the rehashing in SP is one of the bigger musical missteps in the series

It is quite odd that he seemed to think it was a musical. And yet also quite funny that the only hit that came from it was Barry's 'arrangement' of the Bond theme.
Folks keep saying that FYEO is dated, but Dr No's score is like something from the 40s. And most of the time it doesn't even have one! How can there not even be a musical sting when Felix first says Dr No's name? The audience know he's the baddie because his name is on their ticket stub!
    :D

Incidentally, going back a couple of awards, I do also wonder slightly about Sean's 'best debut' performance. It is notable that Bond is actually rather pissed off and distant for most of Dr No: he's not a nice guy. For the first hour or so it's just him going around Jamaica being rude, snappy and crabby to everyone on the island. He's certainly magnetic, but I think he got a lot better in the next film. So I'd definitely give it to Craig still.

Yeah: it's just better music. All of the cues are leagues above those in DN.

FYEO is pretty much unplayable with its cheesy synth sounds. LTK and Goldeneye have their moments, but it took Arnold to put some excitement back into the scores.

You could get away with a lot in the late '70s and early '80s before the conservative movement really kicked in.

I daresay Eon wouldn't have gotten away with the title Octopussy, except in this particular era. (Yes, I'm aware of "Pussy and the Prince" but the movie wasn't named Pussy Galore.)

FYEO is complete and utter garbage with the exception of the gunbarrel. It ruins the film for me. So my vote goes to that.

One mans garbage is another ones treasure, I really enjoy the FYEO soundtrack very recognizable, you play any track from the Craig era and I probably cannot place it with the correct movie.

I'll have to go with SP, simply because it reused too much of SF's score. Of course like Newman's SF, there are brilliant moments in SP's score....like the travelogue theme he created for tracks like 'Crows Klinik', 'Secret Room' & 'Safe House'.....I believe these were going to be main themes for SP, along with Madeleine's theme, which would have served the film better, instead of giving us SF Part 2. The least he could have done was to create new variations of the themes from SF, instead of just copying & pasting.

I can't believe Bond escapes torture from Blofeld and what we get is SF's 'Grand Bazaar/Istanbul'....even if he wasn't going to use the Bond theme, he should have created an original Bond sounding track.

That's what Makes David Arnold so good....he can use the Bond excessively, yet can still compose other catchy tracks, if he's not using the Bond theme. Why didn't we complain when YKMN replaced the Bond theme in CR's Gunbarrel sequence?....because YKMN was a suitable alternative, much like Barry's 007 theme.

Exactly. Conti knew how to write rousing themes ("Runaway, "A Drive in the Country," "Melina's Revenge") with strong rhythms and memorable melodies. If some folks don't like disco or funk that's their loss, but those genres are no more "dated" than any form of music that's no longer current. A Gen Z kid watching Goldfinger would undoubtedly find its score "dated" too.

And everybody should love disco, those were days no social distancing and weekends dancing.

I Find the themes in FYEO very fitting with the movie. Outdated sure but it holds up in the movie and gives it great flavor.

They’re loads of fun, really exciting and full of melody. The idea of disliking something because it was made 40 years ago seems bonkers to me: most Bond films were made many years ago.
And as I said: Dr No’s rather clumsy music is way more dated.
