Bond movies that used their locations to full effect

It hadn't occured to me that Norway would be an expensive place to shoot, but of course that would be a major factor. Chances are that, as you say, they'd film it in Scotland, or even Chile or New Zealand!

You need to lobby your govt for some tax breaks for movie makers!

That's true. But then why are they so obsessed with having a Scandinavian actress? If it HAS to be a Scandinavian, then surely there must be some connection. I know it's not a guarantee that the film is going to head there, but I do hope so. I've certainly been picking up indications that Mendes wants this film to have a mountain and skiing element (he recently went on his first ever ski holiday). So I am thinking there will be some action in the wilds of Norway. A chase through the snow-capped peaks and fjords of the Norwegian coast would be amazing.

Any hints on where you've picked that up? The holiday destination could be a coincidence… Sounds interesting though, and I certainly wouldn't mind some Bond action in my home country... if done well… But it would be expensive though, so they'd probably film it in Scotland pretending it to be Norway, like is the usual norm with films where the plot has a Norwegian connection. Would be typical, wouldn't it… ;)

@jobo - that's a crying shame. You only have to watch the excellent 'The Heroes of Telemark' (which was actually shot on location) to see that Norway is the perfect place for a 007 adventure.

I can't remember where I saw it, but definitely read that Mendes had gone on his first ski holiday. Could be totally coincidental.

I know that Haggis originally wanted QoS to conclude in the Alps but Forster changed it to the desert.

I think it's time Craig got his skis on!

Oh no, that sort of talk won't do at all. I take issue with this as I have quite large, slightly protruding ears (think Lazenby) as well, and mine never freeze when on skis ;)
Though they do provide a fair bit of unwelcome wind-resistance...

Come to think of it - apart from Rog' and Tim, haven't all 007's had quite large or protruding ears? Connery did a bit, Lazenby & Craig need no explaining, and Brosnan has pretty huge ears if you take a closer look...

There's a bit of GE when Brozza's black hair hangs over the top of his ears and makes him look a little like someone from Star Trek.

Part of the problem is actually the opposite. I remember reading a norwegian article on the issue not long ago. Apparently one of the reasons New Zealand and Iceland have become very popular countries for major film productions, is because they offer filmmakers to cover a certain percentage of what it would cost to film on location there. You can almost call it a government funding for international filmmakers. That incentive is unpopular amongst certain politicians in Norway because its supposedly "an unnecessary burden on Norwegian tax payers". Its quite a bizarre scenario in what internationally is considered to be a "socialist country" (although that's not really the case…) and one of the wealthiest nations in the world, but the government is simply not willing to spend money on boosting Norwegian film industry. Its too bad!

Sorry, let's not make this a Norwegian-only thread. As much as I would've loved to see Bond in Norway, I think the chances are slim because of the lack of the incentive from our government... But snow would've been awesome in Bond 24 nonetheless :)
