Definitive Movie interpretation

I watched for a short while in any case Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of
the Apes (1984) on one of the tv channels today, not seen it for years and frankly it has not aged particularly well. Personal opinion of course, though admittedly the most faithful adoption.

There are ironic characters, books even tv shows that have had various takes on them in cinema history.

Name a character or book etc and what you think is the definitive movie based on it.

As much as i love Bela lugosl and Christopher Lee first interpretations of Dracula, Francis Ford Coppolas version comes out on top for me. Well crafted film, great production and Vlad incorporated into the origin of Dracula gives the film more depth. Oldmans and Hoptkins performances alone make this film for me the best adaption.
