The original/real Goldeneye

This is, I think, the fella who gave its name to Fleming's home, and then, indirectly, to the movie:

    And I discovered that they do practice brood paratism (with other golden eye ducks). Kind of fitting with the character of Trevelyan, although I am sure it is unvoluntary.

    I was under the impression that Ian Fleming had taken the name from Reflections in a Goldeneye (1941) by Carson McCullerrs and that there had also been an Operation Goldeneye during World War II? No?

    Probably. But I thought his interest in ornithology might have played a role too. Of course, the associations with the duck was completely coincidental.

    Yes, I see your point - I'd quite overlooked the ornithological angle to this!
