    FRWL definitely had the best villain ensemble for me. Of the Moore era, I agree that LALD had the best villains as a whole, but if you're only taking the main villain the best from the Moore era would easily be Hugo Drax for me, having just rewatched Moonraker. I forgot how damn good he was, and he had some pretty good zingers too.

    Kamal was a decent villain but Gobinda was just recycled henchman cliches and Orlov overacted a bit too much. I think he could've still pulled off the whole "unhinged" aspect whilst playing it down a little, and that would've lent more gravitas to the film in my opinion.

    I actually like this entire list. It's quite different from mine but I see where you're coming from and think it's a good ranking.

    Welcome @Remington. Your #1 is as expected, given your username ;). I'm somewhat surprised (but also quite relieved) that the rest of the 90's era films didn't rank higher actually.

    I revamped my list quite a bit. This time I've tried to go with an honest appraisal of how much I simply enjoy watching these movies, so rewatchability is at a premium here. However, I watch FRWL very very rarely, but it's quite a good movie, so that obviously gets factored in too (the "objective" angle). On the other hand, YOLT is for me the stupidest film in the series by a country mile, but it's entertaining enough that it ranks higher than it deserves. And with regard to DAF, Wint and Kidd alone seem to be worth like three or four ranks. :-D

    Well, James Bond Radio is coming up to the Pierce era soonish, and I'm gonna give it all another chance then. I can't imagine I'll be persuaded, but hey, having 24 Bond movies is better than having 20, so I desperately want to be convinced!

    My annual reappraisal. I'd happily put any of the 24 films on but I'd say from 18 onwards are where the films have larger issues for me and I start to check-out of the them at certain points. Maybe that's why Spectre leads the pack at 18 because it is one of the most egregious examples. I've actually watched two-thirds of Spectre quite often. I can never decide between TND and TWINE and having rewatched them both I'd say that TND flows better even if it is just action set piece after action set piece whereas I prefer TWINE's ambition a little more - it falls down in execution. But those two always sit side by side in my rankings. Usually TWINE is above TND but not this time...

    TLD was my gateway Bond. The film that got me into the 007 phenomenon. The Fleming novels were equally important to helping me get into Bond. And Dalton's approach is key to how I interpreted the books when I first read them over the course of 1987 and 88.

    FRWL is magical to me. I could literally watch that film every day. I definitely like the Cold War era settings of Fleming's novels. And that flows into the films - hence FRWL, TLD, FYEO being high for me.

    But I do love LALD which isn't grounded in that way. The imagination, music, voodoo imagery and mystery as well as the action. I enjoy that film and is always one I put on for 'non-bond' or casual bond fans because there's a good chance they haven't seen it - the song gets them into the film and then the voodoo aspect, 70s style and one-liners are always entertaining.

    I'm also a defender of Moonraker. Sitting at 16 it's clearly not one of my favourites but I also enjoy it's high points - the score, the cinemtography, the opening stunt, Lonsdale's performance - I actually think he shares the best villain-to-hero banter and chemistry of the Moore era.

    But overall you're right - I do prefer the Flemingesque nature of that top 5. When I'm in the mood I can pop on a more fantastical Bond film and have a ball but there is nothing cooler than those first three Connery films. Whenever I get the chance my double bill of choice is usually DN followed by FRWL.

    Yeah @Major_Boothroyd , TLD was a seminal Bond for me, as it was the first film since the 60's that seemed to be doing Bond properly. I love Moore to bits but he was never really Fleming's Bond and his films were to light and comedic for my tastes.

    OHMSS is just outside at number 6.

    Personally nothing comes close to the first 3 Connery films.

    Funnily enough though I think Moore in TSWLM was the closest we've seen to "Commander Bond" being portrayed onscreen.

    I think Moore conveyed Fleming's Bond quite appropriately in LALD/TMWTGG/TSWLM, before increasingly becoming 'Roger' in the later films. I definitely sense the same character as I do in the early Connery, Craig, Laz and Dalton films. In fact, I think they all capture the essence of the character best in their first few films, before inevitably (and regrettably) bringing more (too much?) of their own spin to the proceedings as they get more comfortable (complacent?) in the role. That's why I'm a huge believer in keeping Bond relatively young (from an actor standpoint) and switching it up reasonably regularly.

    @barryt007 - What an interesting list! Kudos on upstaging general trends with TWINE above TND and QoS so far up. Harder to see why TLD, FYEO and GF are so low, though.

    Does TLD just come off as really padded and boring to you? Or are the villains just too colourless? You've got LTK at 9, and I'm trying to think of what it did better. It was more intense, violent and overall darker, and it had a much better villain. Maybe you preferred Pam over Kara?

    Regarding Kara, I've described her before as being a bit too "gooey" for me, but she's definitely better than several other Bond girls.

    I really think he loves Kara! For a character he claims ti hate, he sure talks about her a lot!!
    Totally agree that TLD was the best Bond movie since the 60s! A genuine classic!
