First edition James Bond books auctioned off

First edition copies of Ian Fleming's 007 books were among the top lots in an auction held in Benton.

The titles, including For Your Eyes Only, From Russia With Love and Dr No, went under the hammer with Village Auctions on Saturday August 17 and were expected to fetch up to £1,000 in total.

Auctioneer Malcolm Barry said: "I was very surprised at the condition of them.

"When I was told they were first edition, I was expecting them to be tatty and dog-eared, but they're virtually brand new, although they're 50-odd years old.

"They're very collectable. I haven't seen a set like that in a long time."

I wonder what they went for? Someone got a great deal here, no doubt. If only those covers were reprinted again, today.

A grand for the lot would be steal.

Still makes me sad/angry that Chopping was screwed out of royalties for his work by Fleming.
