Bond wannabe Idris Elba reviews Goldeneye in 1995?

I was looking at some Bond related Youtube videos and found Barry Norman's Film 95 review of Goldeneye. At one point in the item cinema-going punters are asked what they thought of the film and guess who appears - actor Idris Elba? One of the actors rumoured to be a potential James Bond when Craig retires. He appears at the 42 seconds mark - the guy on the left:

I think you'll need to click the Youtube link to see the video.

I'm fairly sure it's him. His voice is identical to Elba's and he looks like him albeit what he would have looked like back in the 1990s. He would have been 25 years old in 1995.

Anyone think it's him?

Recent media reports have claimed Elba has been in contact with Eon and might become the first black James Bond.

Yes, well, it certainly looks like Idris Elba. Interesting find there, if correct.

Elba won't be Bond. Even if the man was as white as snow his age alone rules him out considering Craig will be Bond for the next 5 years at least.

    This is most probably true.
  • Amazing find @fanbond123. That certainly seems to be him.

Agreed that he's too old to take over after Craig - they're almost the same age. He'd make a great villain though.

Yes, the new Mr Big in a LALD remake, anyone?

Or a completely new villain altogether.

That would be equally welcome, @doubleoego.

Since Mr Big in the movie was very different from the novel, they could have Elba play Gallia. He certainly looks the part.

Yes, this was what I meant when I said about the LALD remake. The Mr Big/Dr Kananga of the original film was a waste.

I think that's a bit harsh. The Mr. Big alter ego was stupid but I think that the character of Dr. Kanaga was interesting and Kotto's performance was quite good. I can understand your disappointment if you prefer the novel but I can appreciate both versions. A waste of potential perhaps but not a total waste.

Elba was my no 1 choice not too long ago but yeah, too old now.

He could play a great villain if he was given the chance. Brilliant actor.

I would love to see Elba as a villain or a no nonsense henchman for that matter!
