Where does Sky "fall" in your new Bond rankings?

edited November 2012 in Skyfall Posts: 65
For those who have seen the movie, where does Skyfall rank in your new list? I'm dumbfounded, but I can certainly include it within FRWL, GF, TB, OHMSS, TSWLM, GE, CR and of course, SK. Deciphering the order still baffles me today.

My expectations were extremely high after reading all the reviews prior to seeing, but my respect is growing by leaps and bounds (took me a while to acknowledge OHMSS).

Also, what is your age and have your read and seen all the novels and movies? I've discovered in today's media age the opinion varies.

30, became a fan when I was 5 with TLD, seen all the films, read some of the books (working on reading them all).

Anyway, here's my top 10, which SF is in.

    1) LTK
    2) TLD
    3) GE
    4) TSWLM
    5) TB
    6) SF
    7) TWINE
    8) OHMSS
    9) FRWL
    10) OP

There is already a thread to discuss rankings here:
    http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/78/bond-movie-ranking-simple-list-no-details

But answering your question, it's in my top 3.

There was a thread about age (have to search for it) but I'm 29.

I haven't read all the books, but most of them. There are a couple of short stories left and I didn't read GF.

I wished everyone in here had watched all the films. In fact it should be mandatory that someone who enters a James Bond forum has done it. Unfortunately, recently I found a member who didn't :-w
  • I'd say for the moment it's a top 10, but at the age of 51 (my birthday occurred on 11/4 while on spoiler avoiding hiatus, just in case anyone wants to wish me a HB) and after just one showing, it's way too early for me to define a spot. I'll need 1-2 more views at the theater and a few more on DVD before I can narrow it down.

I started watching the films at the age of 7 in 1968, and started reading the books as well when I was a kid.

That's not really fair though. Some people might not have been able to see all the films because of where they live or something but if they loved one film I'd say they can join. Or maybe they joined because of the books or games. We have some members on here who didn't even join because they were Bond fans.

Yes, I know. That's why I didn't say anything, they get to watch them all sooner or later.

    24. I've seen all the films and read Ian Fleming's novels, plus I listen to the soundtracks, and have read numerous Bond-related books. ((my fav is Martins, Girls and Guns)). I suppose you could say I'm a Bond aficionado.

    My top ten is

    1. From Russia With Love
    2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    3. Licence To Kill
    4. Casino Royale
    5. The World Is Not Enough
    6. Thunderball
    7. The Living Daylights
    8. Dr No
    9. The Spy Who Loved Me
    10. Goldfinger

I think Skyfall, provisionally at least, hovers around 6-8ish.

@thelivingroyale - our top ten's look remarkably similar. You've got TWINE in your top ten!

Oh, by the way - many happy returns to SirHenry.

I think SF will reside in my section of spot 6 to 10.

Question: Why not in the top 5?
Answer: Because the films in my top 5 just won't go away. ;-) I'm talking about: CR/GE/OHMSS/FRWL/DN. I'm so sorry but these have cemented themselves in my top 5.

Thanks for the b-day wishes too! SF was a great present.

Great taste there, very close to my top five. Skyfall is knocking on the door but my top five will struggle to be budged.
  • @royale6 Great minds think alike ;)

I think now OHMSS and LTK are getting the praise they deserve, TWINE might be the most underrated film in the series. I've really liked it ever since I saw it at the cinema.
  • My top 5:
    (no particular order)

    SF
    TLD
    TND
    FRWL
    LALD

QOS will earn more respect as well in the coming years, that's my prediction.

SKYFALL is the second in my ranking right now. I'm 18, I've watched every single movie and read every single book.

I used to like TWINE a lot, but I don't enjoy it as much as I did. I watched it recently again and found some parts much worse than I remembered. Funny thing is I didn't like TND much and now I rate it higher than TWINE.

Skyfall and Casino Royale are tied, for me, as the best Bond films.
  • Saw it three times over opening weekend here in the US, and Skyfall is in my top 3.

    FRWL
    CR
    SF
  • Not in my top ten, currently barely in top twenty. This may change on further viewings.

I wouldn't bet on it. If you have SF so far down on your rankings, I'm guessing DAD is No.1 on your favourite list?

oh good lord.... i get that people have different tastes and what not - but what is the redeeming value of that pile of crap that a couple people would rate it as their favorite, and in their opinion the best Bond movie ever.. what are they watching / seeing that thousands (if not millions) of others haven't? lol

He never said DAD was his favourite, the other guy just stupidly assumed he did because he didn't like SF.

agreed, i feel that same.... IMO, Brosnan's performance in TWINE is what saves the film from being completely unwatchable - it's his strongest performance in the role, and showcases (what he could) a wide range of emotion throughout.... it's just a shame that the story was caught in a creative limbo and constantly deflates any tension, or else it could've been a damn fine outing..

TND on a whole is a superior Bond film to TWINE..
