I don't think what he said is as bad as I initially thought. Asked why it was that audiences are reconnecting with his Bond outing, over 40 years later, Lazenby said: "Because of me! No, it's not me. It's the only film that treats him like a human being. He's not a robot killer like the latest Bond."

Sounds like he's having a bit of a laugh. Can't take it too seriously. I love Craig, I love Lazenby, and with regards to certain parts of QOS he has a bit of a point. And he's been having little digs at Bond for years, wouldn't be Lazenby if he didn't. He's always proud of his work and proud to be associated with the series, does a lot for the fans, I don't really mind him saying what he said.

Well like anybody the man has an opinion, like most folks here. Heck even Sir Roger thinks that the current direction is rather too violent for his taste.
I agree. Both former Bonds have said they dislike the latest incarnation which they are completely entitled to say. I don't see the problem.

In fact, he didn't actually say it has no heart as Volante states above.

Lazenby is crazy, he makes it sound like he crafted his character and gave serious thought to making Bond more human, I'm pretty sure he just showed up and said the lines!

You took the words right out of my mouth. OHMSS is a very violent entry in the series! The slow choking of the SPECTRE thug with his own ski is particularly nasty.

Then there's that hellacious dry slap he gives Tracy moments before banging her brains out.

I disagree, he was the right choice at the time and OHMSS is an excellent film for which he deserves some credit.

Nah, even if he's a bit of a dick in real life, I still say he was great in OHMSS and better than Connery would've been.

As per usual, George speaking before thinking again. As good as OHMSS is, Lazenby was the personification of woodenness. Casino Royale had more "heart" in its little finger! I suppose he needs all the publicity money he can get his career many years ago.

I can`t be bothered anymore to go into how awful I think Lazenby was as Bond, I just don`t get it, no matter how hard I`ve tried to. i know this won`t make me popular around here, but hey ho.

I never understand why people are so quick to defend him. He has never been positive about Bond, even when he made OHMSS!!

He slagged off the producers who gave him his break, slagged off the Bond character, and his fellow co stars, and now those who have followed in his footsteps and bettered what he tried to do.

Yet still Bond fans love him........

Well, it's a case of disassociating yourself from the actors as real people and looking at the performaces I suppose.
I'm no admirer of Sean Connery, his politics or his life choices, in fact I dislike him immensley, but I'm in awe of his Bond and will mourn the day he dies.

George Lazenby has always been an arrogant, prickly character, but I believe he did a sterling job under great pressure and I enjoy his film and his performace.

Neither of them will acknowledge what Bond actually did for them (Connery's film career and Lazenby went from a nobody to a somebody) yet they are happy to reap the rewards for that association.

Moore on the other hand will stand up and say 'Yep, without Bond I would have had a career about 50% as successful'. And I think if pushed Brosnan would admit the same.

Some good points there. Moore and Brosnan certainly are the most gracious, I had the chance to chat Bond with Brosnan once, and he clearly was gratefull for the role and what it had brought to him.
Moore said to me his favourite Bond film that he is not in was OHMSS so what does my opinion count for eh?? :-/

Connery certainly has some odd political views, but yes, remains my favourite too.

Disagree. He should have made seven more!! And glad to hear Moore's favourite Bond film is OHMSS... outside his own that is.

I remember seeing him in a recent interview on The ONE Show where he said his favourite outiside of his own was DAF.

I always found Diamonds a bit boring but hey ho.

It seems like George Lazenby is coming off bitter again. I like George Lazenby. But he has been doing everything to cash in on the 50th Anniversary of James Bond & trying to get media attetion..George slamming Daniel Craig is ridiculous & un-called for! Daniel Craig is awesome as James Bond. This isn't the first time Lazenby has said a negative commet about a Bond actor. Back in 2002, Lazenby took a cheap shot as Pierce Brosnan after DAD was in theaters. (Which was un-called for as well)

What Lazenby thinks of any subsequent Bond actors that came after him and their portrayal of the character is really his business. I don't really have a problem with it. It's only one mans perspective on things. I also like Lazenby, and think his one and only appearance was good enough, and often gets unfairly criticized. We never really should of had an antipodean play the role of James Bond but as a one off, it worked, and there's nothing to be done about it now. Craig is a good Bond, not the best ever, and Brosnan, the same goes for him, and if Lazenby wants to criticize or berate a little, maybe it's not so bad. It's only one man having an opinion after all. Maybe at some stage in time, Brosnan or Craig may have said 'George Lazenby as James Bond ?, what a lame idea that was' or muttered some disagreement, so maybe it works both ways
