As long as it good, I don't care.

Good point. I like the idea of a mystery build and then a dramatic reveal, like DN but it has to serve the story. I honestly think Dalton's intro in a PTS was one of the best. But Craig in the shadows of the office was a strong one too.

Appear in the PTS. There's never been a better time to use Bond's introduction in TSWLM and have him stepping in out of the night and the rain to save Viv Michel at the Dreamy Pines motel. 'He stood there so quiet and controlled and somehow with the same quality of deadliness as the others... He was good-looking in a dark, rather cruel way and a scar showed whitely down his left cheek. I quickly put my hand up to hide my nakedness. Then he smiled and suddenly I thought I might be all right.' Game on...

I agree. I would just use a shortened version of TSWLM. The damsel in distress, being terrorised by gangsters, then a stranger turns up who the ‘damsel’ assumes is another gangster - establishes the dark side of Bond’s character. He then dispatches the gangsters and mysteriously disappears into the night. Perfect.

However much I love the story, and above all Ian's writing, the story itself would end up beeing very short in a cinematic version anyway. And as a PTS I don't think it would work, as the PTS needs to set up the story of the main film as well.

The new film needs to do two things:
    • Introduce new Bond
    • tell a Bond adventure

So the PTS could be largely a standalone episode - as per Goldfinger - but perhaps the damsel who turn up later to provide a connection

I agree that the PTS could be too short, although NTTD ran for 24min which should be plenty to tell a stand-alone short story.

Nice job navigating this question. Love the thoughts behind the choices.

    On to another one.

Would you rather a female vocalist OR a male vocalist for the Theme Song?

We are getting ahead of ourselves, but what the heck it's kind of fun to play with this question.

Through out the series Bond songs have been a staple, in recent years winning Oscars for best song. We have examples of both male and female vocalists singing the song.

Do you have a preference for the gender of the singer? Bonus marks if you share a name of a singer you would like to see warble the theme song.
    • Lazenby instrumental
    • Moore male vocalist
    • Dalton male vocalist
    • Brosnan female vocalist
    • Craig male vocalist

Don't think we will ever get an instrumental track again for the theme song, but it is interesting that most of the introduction of a new Bond have had a male singer.

If it's Hozier I'd be up for a male vocal! But it depends.

I like a good female vocalist for Bond though. I'll go with that, but either one could work.

For me, Bond themes are epitomized by Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger, Diamonds and Moonraker themes, as well as Nancy Sinatra's (an inferior singer in comparison) brilliant YOLT theme and also Carly Simon's NDIB. They are the cream of the crop for me. Oh yes, and extra kudos to Gladys Knight's LTK, a much-overlooked gem. Except for Macca's LALD, I don't really find any outstanding Bond theme sung by a male vocalist (but hey, it's Macca!). The closest would probably be Tom Jones. Doesn't mean I "love" all female vocalists...as I said before, I can't really share the hype about Adele, find Madonna at best mediocre, and wish they had kept k.d. lang's Surrender as the main theme of TND. But overall, themes with female voices appeal to me a lot more than those by males. I'm sorry they missed the opportunity to have Annie Lennox sing a theme, but hey, she's only about seventy...
