Damn, that's so tempting. On one hand, I've wanted one of these for a long while now, but on the other, I really don't want to fall down the rabbit hole of spending hundreds and hundreds to eventually acquire all of the others, either. I quite love the Penguin editions I own.

My first Folio came, Moonraker... I love the illustrations to be sure. But, I thought I would love the texture of the cover and the pages themselves, assuming they would be really something special and with that I'm a little underwhelmed... it's good quality, I just thought it would be more.

That said, I'm sure I will be collecting them all to have. I doubt there will be nicer hardcover editions anytime soon and everything I have now is paperback.

I feel the same way. There is a physicality to the books that is less substantial than i had anticipated. But, they look pretty cool and I will collect the set. But I am no longer under the illusion that this will be my "ultimate" and "end all" versions. There will come a day when I have to seriously start looking into first editions.

@Birdleson. If Folio had replicated the original covers and the physicality of both cover and pages been better, it would be my ultimate dream set!

If I lived in England, I would go to estate sales on a regular basis with one hope in mind, finding first edition Fleming.

    We are in alignment.

It’s really Fay Dalton’s fabulous illustrations that make these editions desirable.
The Pussy is very annoyed that they have skipped FYEO. Hopefully we will not all be screwed with an incomplete collection !

In what way, @DoctorNo? Is the thickness of the pages too thin? That's what I like most with my favourite hardcover books; that the pages have a bit thickness and grain to them.

Have yet to order a Folio Edition book, but will eventually.

Yes @Torgeirtrap, the pages, while acid free, are nothing special or thick to the touch...

I should reiterate, I love the illustrations. That, and to have nice hardbacks, is why I’m getting all these... But, I do feel quality-wise, these are $30 maybe $40 value... for $60+, i was expecting a little more.

I agree with @PussyNoMore, they better do FYEO! I also would love an Octopussy to include some of the previously unpublished material, Russian Roulette, Murder on Wheels, etc.

That's a shame. Collecting these wont be cheap, so you'd expect everything about them to be of top quality.

I think I'll wait for special deals before ordering any of the books myself. It will be difficult justifying stretching to the current prices if they leave something to be desired quality wise.

Any hints when the next release will be? Must be in the next bulk folio collection?

99,9% sure it will be first week of October.
Folio has always had the same release dates, first week of october has been the most consistent one for Bond releases. We have been getting a Folio release each October since 2015.

And since they always release on a wednesday, you can be sure it will be either the 2nd, or the 9th.
I'm leaning towards 2nd. In which case we get the announcement one week prior, on the 25th September.

Here's a list with all release dates of the whole Folio collection so far, so it's easier to see the pattern.

    DD/MM/YYYY
    14/10/2015 - Casino Royale
10/10/2016 - From Russia with Love
    19/05/2017 - Dr. No
    11/10/2017 - Moonraker
    07/03/2018 - Goldfinger
    17/10/2018 - Diamonds are Forever
    06/03/2019 - Thunderball

Looking at the list now, i realize that LALD will probably come out in mid October, so either 9th or 16th.

Folio rep told me we’ll find out about new releases this month... but didn’t specify if it was release date info or content info

New releases in general or specifically new Bond releases? Because Folio releases a batch of books in early September as well. My money is on October though, for above mentioned reasons.

Thanks for that incisive breakdown @00Agent ! These editions are the only Bond merch I'm picking up in the last few years so I'm looking forward to each release.

LALD will be next? So I guess we have OHMSS and YOLT to look forward to in 2020?

@Major_Boothroyd yes, LALD will be next and was confirmed by IFP via Instagram some month ago.
I would guess OHMSS and YOLT will be next, maybe they throw in FYEO first. My guess is they simply need more time for FYEO, due to it's many short stories requiring more illustrations.

Yes - I was figuring they'd leave the 'oddities' (FYEO, OP and TSWLM) for last. So maybe the order will be:

    2020 - OHMSS, YOLT
    2021 - TMWTGG, TSWLM
    2022 - OP, FYEO
  • Folio's dysfunctional launch schedule has lead to The Pussy putting his collection on hold (he is yet to buy 'Thunderball').
Until he is convinced that they will publish the full catalogue he will not be parting with any more of his hard earned wonga !
On a point of detail, The Pussy finds the good Major's description of FYEO as an oddity a bit bizarre.
    FYEO is novella nirvana !

What exactly do you find so disfunctional about the release schedule? We had two books since 2017 every year like clockwork, always released at the same time, except for one time in May. My guess is, it will be 2 books a year for the rest of the catalogue.

As for Folio releasing the whole catalogue, well, what else do you need than Folio telling us over and over again that they're gonna do the whole catalogue?

PussyNoMore just needs them to stick to their schedule - which as you rightly point out they haven’t - and also for them to revert to a chronological order. One could easily imagine them leaving out the novellas and TSWLM. Unfortunately they haven’t a great track record with completists. Just ask Le Carre fans !
Anyway, The Pussy will decide what to do with his hard earned wonga in due course.

Certainly didn't mean to denigrate those ones dear Pussy!
FYEO in particular is excellent - QOS especially is a deep cut favourite of mine.
I just meant those three are 'oddities' because they stand out from the pack. Two short story collections and an experiment novel.

I will be furious if they don't do the complete Fleming collection!
  • Thank you Major. PussyNoMore always had you marked as a man of consummate good taste !

Could be the 4th or 6th from the bottom, i wouldn't get my hopes up yet though.
Folio releases their Autmn Collection on the start of September, but their Christmas Collection in the middle of October, so barely a month apart, which i find a bit odd tbh.

The Autumn collections never featured a Bond book, but the Christmas collections always had a Fleming release since 2015. Of course i hope i can get it a month earlier, but i don't think they'll change their release strategy, so i think we'll have to wait another month. We'll see next week.

4th looks a little too fat... I’m going with 6th... LALD, but I’d be happy with any of them. Interesting to see if you’re right about Christmas release though

If the good Doctor is correct, PussyNoMore hopes that we get the full unexpurgated version and not the cleaned up ‘woke’ edition that has been doing the rounds !

Diamonds are Forever was not censored. No Reason why LALD should be.

So there was no new Fleming Book in the Autumn collection as i predicted.
But no need to despair, it will only take one month longer.
110% confident that LALD will be released either on the 9th or 16th of October.
