Do Broccoli and Wilson realize they're playing with fire?

Part of the reason Bond endured for so long was because of its lack of regard for continuity and chronology. It's bad enough we had a reboot, which forced us to think about Bond's actual timeline, but they followed it with a direct sequel. They went back to normal with Skyfall while still going deep into his past and now they decided to make that connected to everything else as well. If you bring Bond down to earth and turn him into a logical franchise with actual continuity and regard to chronology you will run the risk of the franchise looking like it should have a finite number of films.
Bond of the old days was an unchanging presence with no end in sight. Now, he is a real character whose story feels like it will conclude at some point.
