Unwritten/Rarely Written About Areas of the James Bond Phenomenon (Literary and Cinematic)?

This is the thread to suggest such areas of the James Bond phenomenon (literary, cinematic and beyond) where you feel commentators and aficionados have overlooked in books, journals, articles etc.?

What areas of the Bond phenomenon are still very much virgin territory would you say?

I hope to get some good responses on this one!

How many tuxedos worn by each actor, and how M's office has changed :D

No, in all seriousness, I would love a Bond car book that gives specifications such as color and other stats and behind the scenes info on each car.

Thank you for your interesting suggestion, @PropertyOfALady.

Any more suggestions from our community?

I'd really love to hear them! :)

My dream would be to have a comprehensive collection of treatments and drafts of the films from DN through SP, with producer/director notes, subsequent beat sheets, correspondence with executives etc. Basically a journal that charts the development of each script from the kernel of an idea through to shooting scripts. Naturally this would end up being an enormous book, or would have to be broken down into volumes and most Bond fans probably wouldn't read it, but I'd love it.

Actually, I think I would love that as well. As you say though it would be an enormous volume and as such probably struggle to get a publisher, even if it was split down into volumes.

My main interest in the films is the way each actor has interpreted the role, and how their performance has evolved over the years. How they have physically changed and how they have or haven't tried to alter the role to suit their own personalities.
It would perhaps end up being a pretty dry book, but I would enjoy it
  • I'd love that too - my Dad has a book that details the minutiae of The Beatles recordings, something like that for how the Bond films came about like you say with director's notes etc. would be great, maybe someone should pitch it to EON/a publisher?

I would like to have a travel guide book where all the foreign places Bond ever visited are described, especially the places he went to.

For example: Venice, Bond visits that shop where Drax is secretly producing the glass jars for the deadly satellites. Would be nice to know what kind of shop that was/is in reality and of course where to find it.
Or the place James is "accidentally" bumping into Goodhead. Where exactly is it.

The book should be done in chronological order film by film.

In a special section they can provide us with all the places in London that ever appeared in a Bond movie.

This is a great idea! I've always wanted to go where Bond went in his travels...with a book like this, I could.
  • Maybe you should try 'On the tracks of 007', around since 1995. It was published in 2008 as 'the ultimate field guide to the James Bond filming locations around the world'. The accompanying website is the longest running Bond related website around and because of its 20th anniversary will be totally re-designed and poublished in three weeks. For more info check out onthetracksof007.com

There's only one book about food in the Bond universe (books and movies). Unfortunately it's A) in French, B) riddled with mistakes, C) badly presented. A corrected international edition would be a welcome addition to any Bond collection.

EON carefully and successfully protected their brand over the years.
Discussion for off-screen liaisons suggests a (unauthorized) tell-all book in the style of Hollywood Babylon.
    An EON exposé.

    Maybe EON Bond Babylon.

Affairs, tantrums, disgruntled workers, insider meddling, substance abuse.
Health crises. Terminal illness. Tragic suicides. Parking disputes. Fender benders.
Violence. Pranks. Accidental food poisoning. Poor taste. Mistreated pets.
Accidents of all types. Wardrobe malfunctions. Flirting. Sexual harassment. Impotence.
Bad plot ideas pursued and dropped. Spouses on set. Kids on set. Pets on set.
Nepotism. Incompetence. Unwanted auditions. Inappropriate product placement offers.

To be honest I wouldn't support such an idea. But I'd buy it. And read it.
And watch for EON Bond Babylon II.

I love collecting books on bond - so a book on the wilderness years of 89-95 called 'Licence Revoked: 007's Lost Years'. It would be similar to Sellers' The Battle For Bond'. It would be great to hear from all the players - Glenn, dalton, broccoli and Wilson.

I'd also like to get a complete cd of rejected or unused bond songs and all the unreleased incidental tracks. Some box set with all the original albums and all bonus material. If it was comprehensive and exhaustive as well as nicely packaged - like the James Bond archives were - that would be something I'd fork out money for.

I picked up the 'James Bond Girls' photo book recently - so where is the equivalent book full of cheesecake photos of the Bonds?? I'm happy to volunteer my editing services.

Perhaps it belies the fact that the majority of Bond fans are insufferabley male?

You'll be wanting to buy Licence to Cook by James Bond Memes blogger Edward Biddulph then, @Ludovico:

To back to the topic, I think nobody have really written about the James Bond Jr. (TV show) X years later. There are probably big things to dig here...

Bought that book a couple month ago and love it. have tried many receipts, and the eggs glorian style have moved into my standard repertoire.

But since that book only features food, i would like to recommend a companion to it about cocktails, i think that topic is also rarely written about (in quality):
