How different the succes of this have been if EON got the rights for Casino Royale right from the beginning?

Do you think it would still be as succesful as it is now?
Do you think their start would have been as strong as it was with Dr No ?
How much the tone would have changed in the 60s?
Do you think Sean Connery would have been as great as he was in the more amateour agent, intead of the portrayal we saw for 6 films ?

DN was the best film to start with because of the more exotic setting and fast paced story. I don't believe that CR would have had the 'larger than life quality' that the 1960's audiences loved.

If it had been the first, SC would have played a more experienced agent in CR as Cubby never wanted a 'novice timeline Bond script'. I'm glad the timeline exists as it does and we got a great version of CR in 2006.

Mostly agreed, although the missed opportunity for the first but not the last time in the series was continuity. Filming DN before FRWL made the armourer scene weaker, for example.

A Terence Young CR would have been amazing. Bond wouldn t have been a rookie agent, as he wasn t in the novel. That was a reboot invention.

I think EON would have been able to adapt all movies in chronological order then. Something that wasn't possible at the time, but what is finally done during this...Craig-era.

@MadeleineSwann So is De Sica playing Mathis? He was already in his 60s at that point. Actually I'd like to know who Otto Kruger plays as well.

Yeah, he is and it's Hardy Kruger, who would just be playing a henchman.
