So Catherine is the murderer?

What was her motive then?

Or is Dr. Beth (Jeanne Tripplehorn) the actual murderer?

I'd say Beth was the real murderer. it's been a while though.

I think Beth is hotter than Catherine.

She had that sultry bedroom eyes look!

You're off topic on your own topic. Really?!

Catherine was the murderer in my view, wealthy, rich and very intelligent. In the end she got away with murder and somebody else payed the price. The "best" kind of killer.
  • Catherine was the murderer, which I believe was confirmed by people working on the film. However, someone I met at a party once went into a long, convuluted, but very detailed and well thought-out explanation about how Tripplehorn's character could be the real murderer.

I remember the minor furor when the film first came out - I'd be curious to see it again to see how tame it appears now...

I thought Beth was the murderer after they found all the evidence at her apt pointing to her until the final frame of the movie before the credit showing the ice pick under the bed.

This is my 6th viewing of the film - I guess it can go either way.

The furor over this film was from the Lesbian community because they say they were being portrayed as killers.

    BLAH!

I think all 4 women in the film: Beth, Roxy, Hazel and Catherine - they are all killers - they all killed a person or persons at one time or another!!

Roxy killed her 2 brothers, Hazel killed her husband and 3 kids, Beth killed her Berkeley University academic advisor and then she shot Lt. Nilsen point blank with a .38 and then she ice picked Gus to death, Catherine killed Boz.

j7wild, I can't speak to your own experiences but in my area when this film came out it was more the religious groups that were upset about this film (though I do remember a bit about lesbian groups being upset). They claimed that it was so sexual and violent that Hollywood was "normalizing" pornography and making it acceptable to mainstream audiences. Which of course just gave the film more publicity and noteriety and made men and women my age want to see it even more ;-)

I will say that as a young man it was definitely far more sexual and titilating than any other mainstream studio film that I had ever seen at the time. But in addition to the more lurid aspects it was also a cleverly plotted film (from what I remember) and the psychological screwing over that Michael Douglas's character got was both disturbing and impressive. Elektra King may have picked up a couple of lessons ;-)

the sex in it is so ridiculous!!

I remember the Houston Chronicle newspaper review on the film said the sex in it is so chiropractically impossible meaning you would break your back and other body.... ahem... parts if people in real life did it the way it was portrayed in the film.

I also don't appreciate the term Pornography being used to label everything nowadays; there was a time the term Pornography wasn't associated with what we call Pornography nowadays.

Even now, they call some of the horror movies like Saw, Horror Porn!!

That's a load! Couldn't roxy or hazel been the murderer of rockstar Boz?
Then Catherine becomes one of these copycat killers.
The tv show criminal minds about profilers did a parallel episode of a young
lady murdering wealthy men. These men were distorted failed reminders of
    her father.

If I was any of those detectives in the film I wouldn't sleep at night anymore.
