The MI6 Convention

In the 90's I was a member of the James Bond International Fan Club. It was, for want of a better word, dire.
The feed of news was drip by drip, the obligation of the club to it's members was questionable. MI6 is extremely well respected, it is at the forefront of Bond news and the quality production of a fan magazine. Graham Rye (007 magazine) had the arrogance to attack MI6 with his attempt to discredit the site and it's publication (jealous?) Is there any chance of an MI6 convention for next year for all followers (travel permuting) to attend. Who would be on board?

travel permitting - i would love to attend...

i have often times thought about doing a Bond panel discussion at some smaller conventions here locally with some friends - as most of them do a Transformers G1 panel discussion.

Many members in the past have meant up with each other, as part of a "Bond Camp". I'm sure such a thing will take place again one of these years.

We've had a number of formal gatherings in the past, including the Thunderball 40th Anniversary gala event, and pre and after parties at the last two premieres in Leicester Square.

I'm sure there will be something for October 2012...

Well I'm crossing my fingers. The Casino Royale Prem was a great event taking over Leicester Square. With this being the 50th anniversary of the franchise I would be surprised if they didn't go big again for Bond23.

The "Bond Camp" meet ups have been a lot of fun in the past. They are usually focused around a specific event, such as a concert of Bond music, the Fleming centenary, the release of the latest Bond, or even a wedding.

Smaller meet ups have happened and a few of the regulars here continue to meet up quite often on a more informal basis.

I'm sure that a meet up of other members other than the regular "Bond Campers" would be an enjoyable experience, too.

I'd dearly love to be involved in a future "Bond camp" or meet up. Though due to the high cost of travel, and with many commitments lots of preparation time would be needed for me to attend.
Though it will happen. Oh yes.

I've dreamt about this for years, joining my fellow em-i-sixers for a getting together. However, like Benny, I have many obligations and travelling isn't always that easy. Depends largely on where and when. Still, I've always enjoyed these initiatives, just knowing they exist makes me smile.

Also, I appreciate what @Monsieur_Aubergine said in his opening post. It's true that the feed of information and the respect for the fans are both the best of the best here on MI6. Our hosts take good care of us too and we can't mention that enough.

    Here here, thanks Darth.

this is the only Bond website I've known for years..... i've been coming to this website regularly for Bond news since The World Is Not Enough was in production..... i've gone to other websites too like CBN, or hell even the official Bond websites - but none offer the same type of breaking news, and quality like this website has to offer, and not even IMDB was cutting it anymore..... and, it's been a long time coming, but it wasn't until last year that officially joined the community, and i wasn't sure what to expect... but since, I haven't regretted joining, it's been a blast.... and i would love to be able to meet everyone here, and have some discussions face to face....

it just boils down to travel, and money........ more so money lol...... I don't think i'd be able to afford a trip across the pond any time soon......

but maybe when Bond 23 opens - there can be a UK and US get together somewhere.. i think that would be neat.

I'm not familiar with this (although I'm familiar with Mr Rye). Interested to know what he would or could say to discredit MI6. At the end of the day James Page has always gone to great lengths to ensure that rumours are shown to be nothing more than rumours and nothing is presented as fact until it's official. Integrety is everything here.

Directly from his website over a slight discrepancy in the wording of the advertising of mi6 confidential. He really throws his toys out his pram

" 007 MAGAZINE editor & publisher Graham Rye said: “This was a jab at me and my 32-year old publication 007 MAGAZINE by the ‘schoolboys’ behind this other publication. Also the claim that their magazine is read by thousands of fans in 37 countries is highly questionable!” “It would appear to be a case of minnows pretending to be whales, and they are most definitely the wrong side of the glass!”

Graham, get a life. I always remember him on tv in the 90's , he was the most morose, dull man and did nothing for fans reputation. They rarely honoured subscription obligations, 4 magazines a year was the original annual entitlement...I waited 12 months for just one and then the entitlement wording changed to 4 magazines per subscription, whenever they might come out (???), Real fans don't take the **** out of other fans and certainly don't take advantage of them...at MI6, I feel safe, secure and welcome.

I hear Mr Rye is applying to News International for a job on their relaunch rag!!! lol

I'd love to hop the Pond too over to Leicester Square in 2012! But it all depends on funds...but would love to make it happen. If not that, we folks here in the States should definitely organize a "Bond Camp" for B23 as well-maybe one West Coast and one East Coast.

Obviously I'd love to join in, time and money permitting. Are the dates for the premier set? Then we'd all know what to start saving for..

I'd love to attend a Bond convention, if everything worked out! That would be really fantastic. And I agree with what Monsieur_Aubergine said about MI6. This is the best 007 website of them all. I've looked at the others, and they simply just don't provide enough. The news is old and stale, the members are scarce, and the information on the movies is very limited. MI6 takes the title as the best Bond website!

I live in London so any gatherings in London won't be a problem. The prospect of meeting up with fellow Bond fans and better yet, comrades here excites me thoroughly. I'm up for this!
