What does James Bond do when he's not on field? A brief mention of him practising at the fire target and doing some paperwork can be read in the first chapter of Moonraker, but not much is said. What is his paperwork about, exactly?

    He probably reads a ton about current events, and equipment manuals. I think I read in one of the recent continuation novels, that the stuff that comes across is desk is stuff that he just reads, and signs off that he read it. Of course the continuation novels may all be junk to some people. :P
