the scene you could live without.........

edited August 2012 in Bond Movies Posts: 34
after watching every bond film over and over again i find myself watching certain scenes that i think the film could of done without.
for example the escape scene in thunderball from the car in the jancanoo, just the way it's shot and the music for some reason it just does not seem right? a slight time delay when JB is shot in the leg. up until JB bumps into the guy and the music stops. and then he proceeds to the Kiss Kiss club which is fine?
i have no idear why i find this wrong. just seems out of place in what for me is a perfect film.
the Cello case used as a Sledge in TLD again i just do not feel that the film needed it (glad they did not use the flying carpet scene that hit the cutting room floor)
The Beach Boys Music in AVTAK Not needed
there are loads more but i thought you all might have your own that you want to discuss. Would it in your own oppinions improve the films for you if certain Scenes where left out that are not crucial to the story line.

apologies if this has already been discussed but im new to this.

Regards

I agree. The more I watch these films, the more scenes I find that aren't needed. By the time I'm finished with them, I reckon most films would only be an hour and a half long. Much of the snow action sequence in For Your Eyes Only springs to mind, the 'funnier' moments in Octopussy, the overuse of action in Tomorrow Never Dies. I could go on and on.

Ehm, the tsunami sequence in Die Another Day. Took a film that was already ridiculous and made it into a comic book Bond film. And it actually can be taken out with no consequences to the pacing.

I'd say leave out the entire Aston Vanquish, it's pointless. They could have used a traditional method to get rid of the henchman. Also that flying fortress could go. Replace it with an infiltration on the PTS military base.

GF could do without the mobster gassing. That would give Bond some real investigation work while in Kentucky.

OHMSS could leave out the rally foolishness, that was just there to please those expecting slapstick in a Bond film.

DAF should have left out that cheap money machine Vegas. Even Disneyworld would have been more worthy of Bond.

LALD should cut the Routemaster and the airfield sequence. Again guilty of slapstick. Bond's sabotage mission on Isle of Surprise should have been expanded instead.

TMWTGG doesn't need the giant laser and the strangely deserted Solex-plant that powers it. A longer duel in Scaramanga's training gallery would help the film a lot instead.

MR would not have needed the gondola chase.

FYEO Maggie and Denis - no.

AVTAK Bond and Steed investigating the Zorin estate should have been done much, much better. As is I'd rather have no such scene than the one we got.

GE neither the tank chase (slapstick) nor the Z3 sequence (commercial; and a bad one at that) should have been shot.

    TND BMW commercial must go.

TWINE the x-ray glasses come from a puberty wet-dream. So does the ensuing battle with the useless heavy. Could go.

CR either the embassy shoot out or the Miami action are too much for the film.

QOS large parts of the dogfight are superfluous. Instead the bar scene should be expanded with more comments that rub up the right people the wrong way and give homophobes an extra bone to chew on. In addition to the one it already gave them.

Great posts and comments. I suppose most of the films have scenes that could have been left on the cutting room floor.

DAD The windsurfing scene; Moneypenny masturbating with the virtual reality glasses
the invisible car could have been left out; Jinx's cheesy dialogue

    TMWTGG The karate school sequence

    MR Jaws and Dolly

TWINE The final love making scene between Bond and Christmas
Goldfinger could live without... the whole movie.

Ha ha ha. This is blasphemy. To rank on GF is like a rock fan saying Aqualung is not Jethro Tull's greatest album or that "Tommy" by the Who stinks. :)>-

    Amen and preach on!

Other worthy nominations go to the fake wedding scene in YOLT (BORING!!!), the wind surfing CGI scene in DAD (cheesy), the boat chase in TMWTGG (not necessary, doesn't add anything to the pace or the plot), Jaws and Dolly's romance in MR (STUPID!!), and the ski chase in TWINE (doesn't add anything to the story or the pace, and isn't well-executed anyway).

Unless I'm mistaken, the ski chase in TWINE does add something to the story. Bond gets a flag off of one of the parahawks that tries to kill him, and he takes it to Zukovsky for information.

I don't think Moneypenny was up to that in an above response, at least not in a family friendly film release :-<

Things that could of been left out of Bond releases ?, sounds so familiar, but in any event, -

Awful stupid sound effects as Connery obliterates a poor spider with his shoe in Doctor No

Said awful stupid sound effects as Moore and (Clifton) James goes for a somersault in Golden Gun, maybe even omit the whole scene even

    Anything featuring Halle Berry

    Anything featuring Denise Richards

    Anything featuring Lois Chiles

The whole idea of 'James Bond goes into outer space' in Moonraker

Jill St John can't handle a machine gun in Diamonds are Forever

The return of Richard Kiel in Moonraker

The whole 'Karate school' epsiode in Golden Gun, and subsequent fight with Hip girls and Bond

Moore and Roberts in the shower at the end of a View to a Kill. The least said, the better

Jaws falling on to Circus Tent at the end of Moonraker PTS

The Zambora Incident in Diamonds are Forever, what was that about

All the underwater scenes from For Your Eyes Only. Damn boring

The whole 'Saint Marks Square bullshit sequence from Moonraker', but leave in the pigeon

James Bond 'jungle escape' from the Monsoon Palace, Octopussy

The whole elevator/fire/Roberts screaming from A View to a Kill

Sir Godfrey Tibbett meets a demise in a French car wash

Franz Sanchez and his stupid Iguana

Colonel Heller gets impaled on a fork lift truck

The whole chase with the tanker trucks in License to Kill

James Bond sniffing shoes in old Q stock room in Die Another Day

The Invisible Car idea from that release

Any scene with Johnathan Pryce saying 'Delicious'

Dalton and d'Abo on the Ferris Wheel at the Prater Fair, Vienna

Connery and Blackman rolling around in a barn

The two gypsy girls fighting, From Russia With Love, leave in subsequent attack by Krilencu forces

'Get your clothes on and I'll buy you an Ice Cream' - For Your Eyes Only

All of Bond at the Eiffel Tower, Paris, a View to a Kill

all of Grace Jones in above release

the 'Keystone Cops' of the San Francisco Police Department, same release

Bond and the Beach Boys surfing sequence, same movie

Bond and Octopussy on the boat at the end of said movie

the whole chase through the streets of India and ridiculous action sequences, Octopussy

Moore and Chiles 'attempting re-entry', Moonraker

The jump off the mountain at the start of The Spy Who Loved Me

John Cleese demonstrates his 'new coat' for Bond with embarrassing results

Brosnan and Richards 'fireworks and turkey', end of The World Is Not Enough

Bond at the Tosca opera in Bergenz, Austria. Stupid idea

Dalton and Milovy ride in a cello case towards the Czech/Austrian border

Appearance of Blofeld ?, at the start of For Your Eyes Only, just omit the whole damn lot

James Bond turning Japanese in You Only Live Twice

James Bond jetpack in Thunderball. Damn stupid

The whole 'Pipeline sequence' of Bond in Diamonds are Forever, when Wint and Kidd try another elaborate (and stupid) death

The 'inflate killing' of Doctor Kananga in Live and Let Die

The 'genitals violation' of Bond by LeChiffre, Casino Royale

The whole second half of Tomorrow Never Dies

(This is just a small number of events and things I would of raced to leave out, but there you are)

    QOS plane chase

    DAD finale on the plane

    DAD invisible car

    DAD Jinx's dialouge

Well you are right about that, I had forgotten about that. Whoops! Thanks for calling it to my attention Crease! All right, now let's just say that I would have done without the ski chase because it's poorly executed.

Such a bad chase in fact, I'm happy we've stayed clear of them since then. When the story is right, a ski chase may be worth another go. In the one in The World Is Not Enough, the parahawks appear to destroy themselves and bomb their own men!

Precisely! When it comes to ski chases, the best of them all, at least in my opinion, would have to be the one in For Your Eyes Only with 007 being chased by Kriegler and his goons. I thought it was well directed, executed, and very entertaining therefore.

I love how absolutely incompetent the parahawk pilots are, yet the grenades they throw land almost directly on top of Bond. Their actions completely negate one another.
  • I actually liked the TWINE ski chase, it always looked really good to me, especially when I first saw it in the cinema.

But as for which ski chase is best, nothing can top TSWLM imo.
@thelivingroyale: The only qualm I have about the ski chase in TSWLM is that it doesn't last long enough, and therefore fails to give us enough of what it builds up beforehand. I mean sure, the parachute stunt is really cool, but I would have liked an extended chase leading up to this moment.
  • @Tony Thank you for such a fun topic! I definitely have a scene off the top of my head. The boat chase scene in Live and Let Die. That scene just did not belong anywhere in that movie. At least not the way it was handled.

I think it's short but sweet. It's not that long, but what we do get is brilliant.

Wilson has said when preparing for the ski chase in The World Is Not Enough he watched the one in For Your Eyes Only for inspiration and said "it still stands up today". How then, after doing that, did we get what we did? As action is one of The World Is Not Enough's major problems I suppose, I shouldn't consider it too much, as it's not related to this one chase. All the action is subpar and not needed in this rather good story. Maybe the boat chase was just too damn good.
  • I do not need to see Ernst Stafrod Blofeld, the man who was played so beautfiully in the lat film and responsile for the greatest tragedy in Bond's life, in drag.

    =)) That's brilliant!

My votes would be several random scenes featured in MR and DAD that I probably don't need to much elaborate on.

Why does everyone find this surprising? My dislike of GF is well-documented on these forums.

And I've heard neither of those two songs.
