Did anybody else like GE:RA? I myself have been playing it more recently after not playing it for a while, and have found it to be quite fun as I used to when I first got it! Does anybody else still play this and like it? Despite it being entirely fan-fiction based and convoluted in terms of consistency, I did enjoy the face-off between Dr. No and Goldfinger, though the fact that Dr. No isn't with Blofeld's organization is messed up. Anyway what do you think?
  • Hated it back in the day when it was released...but only because I didn't think it was as good as previous games maybe? Was considering getting another copy of it "just to make sure" my opinion is right.

And spot on about Dr No...frustrated me big time when I played it! Haha

I played this game dozens of times over at a much younger age. Hardly remember it now though :/ I enjoyed it for what it was back then. I loved the dual wield feature.

The story of this game is the worst piece of sh*t to come out of Bond's ass in history.

Gameplay, not so much. The gameplay was fun, I just didn't like the "2 weapons only" rule, and hate how modern games just keep taking out our ability to carry weapons, yet keep stuffing more and more of them in. Luckily, GE:RA had, what, six weapons to choose from? Thankfully, not a lot.

Yeah, the dual-wield is possibly the best part, especially when you get double Mamba shotguns or double Jackal pistols. There's no mercy involved when using those doubles!

Yes, the Crab Key locations is really awesome, as is the Octopus Lair.

Gameplay was as good as it had ever been up to that point. Split screen with family and friends was a blast....the most fun I've had since GE64. The story line was one that pissed off hardcore bond fans because it was so different but the game itself was awesome. The last few missions could be pretty tough at times as well. I played through the story on all difficulties when I owned it for Gamecube. Then when I purchased a XBOX it was one of the first games I bought and I played through it again twice. Unfortunately I never played it online, wonder how good that was?

I played the levels "Midas Casino" and "Hoover Dam" last night, which are probably my two favorite levels in the game. I especially like the latter of the two, it's just flat-out grand-scale epic! It's very fun at the end when you get to fight Xenia Onatopp, I love the ending cut-scene with her falling off the dam!
  • The locations were cool, and duel weilding was fun, it was also great seeing some of the villians.

But the story was crap. I thought we'd be playing as some badass mercenary hunting James Bond and MI6, but no. Bond dies at the very start and we fight... Other bad guys???? Do we kill any goverment agent in the entire game???

The games tagline (if I remember right), was "why be Bond when you can beat him"

The tagline should've been "why be Bond when you can get a crap game with his enemies and essentially do his job for him"

Bond dying at the start was a simulation, and not real. Not trying to defend the game, just stating a fact.

Was it? Oh right. Still doesn't change my problems with the game.

"you were directly responsible for the death of 007"

...if my memory serves me right, didn't their helicopter go down and Bond died when he fell? I never got the reason why "GoldenEye" was let go from MI6

Yes, but it was all a simulation. That's when he's booted from MI6, after the simulation ends.

Even more of a reason on why he shouldn't of been fired. Because it was a simulation

I think it was due to his excessive force. Doesn't M say something like "there's no place at MI6 for an agent like you".

I've never atually finished this game. It's a mixture in me losing interest and the game cheating once you reach the Volcano. Giving the AI one-shot kills weapons, and having them swarm you, that's cheap.

@MajorDSmythe - But you also got access to those weapons. Once the better wepaons were introduced you had to have more patience and implement some better strategy. I also had to start taking advantage of the eye abilities. being able to toss someone across the room was pretty sweet. And dual magrails with Xray vision was super deadly. I think my favorite weapon in the whole game was the Mk2 Detonater though.

How about all the maps to choose from for multiplayer and how some were set up for 1 vs 1.....This was a brilliant idea and made those matches more entertaining. The variety of maps was awesome!!!

My favorite maps were the funhouse, Chemical Showdown, Fissure, and Goldeneye's Retreat.

Man I might go buy this game again right now if it's compatable with the XBOX 360?

Yeah, that's word-for-word actually! Spot on Major! Haha. And to clear up any loose ends here, Bond was not killed, it was just a simulation, kind of like the VR glasses from Die Another Day. What gets me is, why did GoldenEye have a card from Goldfinger asking about his offer? Was there a previous encounter between them that we didn't know about? Goodness, just one of the many unanswered mysteries of Rogue Agent!

Either this, or years pass between GoldenEye getting his ass booted out of MI6 and searching his pocket for said card as he stands at the door.

@Agent007391: Hahaha, yeah, the latter would definitely most likely be the answer! Hahaha. (Sigh) Once again, Rogue Agent's storyline is extremely contraversial and should have been given more levels and cutscenes to actually provide a back-bone for this fan-fiction.

Or, better yet: The writers should have known better than to do it in the first place.

Indeed, it really messes up the series continuity. What I wish is that we were playing as Bond against the classic villains in a game which made sure that it separates itself from the series, sort of a disclaimer that says "this is not a part of the actual James Bond cannon, but is instead a separate timeline that is an alternative for those who want something different." However, the gameplay is quite fun, and I highly enjoy playing this game!

I've always stated that I loved the gameplay, minus a few little things, but that the story suffers from a severe case of bullsh*titis. And, what's more, the game actually carries a sticker that says "007 Presents", which, when added to the GoldenEye title, lulls us into a false sense of security by making us think we're buying a good product all around, instead of good gameplay, manure story.

Indeed. Not only that: they made her look and sound almost 20 years younger than she was in GF to begin with!

Exactly! I almost barfed during the ending of the game when she was talking about how much she "loves the auto-pilot", while giving GoldenEye the seductive eyes, which make me want to hold my head over the toilet fast!

I want to slit your throat very slowly for reminding me of that. I beat that game seven years ago, and was trying to erase all memory what happens in it!
  • Why does everyone dislike it? It's quite fun if you ignore the story.

Me! Ha ha! The game is great. Why does everyone compare it to Bloodstone or GoldenEye 007? This is 007 Legends for villains. Still haven't beat the game. Only on Hong Kong because I got it 3 months ago. Plus, what do you think your number 1 gun is on the game in single or multiplayer. My favorites are the Golden Gun and the MK2 Detonator.
