George Lazenby's Fisticuffs

I suddenly realised after all this time,that I have created the 'Fisticuffs' threads for all the Bonds apart from poor old George.

So he now has his own dedicated 'Fisticuffs' thread.
Probably the fittest and most action-packed Bond and I forgot about him haha !!

There is an abundance of Fisticuffs in OHMSS,so take your pick and discuss.

Personally, I like the PTS fight the best,on the beach,even if the editing is terrible.
The score and the effort from all concerned is excellent,and sets the tone for the whole film.

    George Lazenby was the Master of Fisticuffs. The dubbing helped too, but still.

    He was ,to be fair...that's why I wish he made DAF...I feel that film would have been awesome,and probably faithful to the novel,like OHMSS..such a wasted opportunity for all concerned.

    It certainly was. Surely the greatest missed opportunity in all of Bondage?

    I think so yep...he could have taken Bond through the 70's .
    But then saying that,it would mean Sir Roger would never have been Bond,and we cant have that !!
    I would have been happy if GL did 3 films ,OHMSS,DAF and I think TMWTGG.
    Then Sir Roger would take over from LALD and on to TSWLM etc etc.

    If there was one are where George is superior to the other Bond, it's his fights.



    No Moore, but more George, I could live with that.

    Lazenby is certainly someone you'd want on your side in a fight. Good skills and I can believe he's one tough fella.

    Lazenby was so tough in fact that he broke the stuntman Borienko's nose for real in a pre-filming practice fight! Yuri Borienko went on to play the henchman Grunther in the finished film. I don't believe that had ever happened before or since on a Bond film. It all added to the sense of realism in OHMSS I suppose though.

    Haha. Yes, I read that recently. Like you say though, more realism. Always felt he was better than he's given credit for.

    That hotel fight is one of the very best in the whole series. Top five.

    IMO all George's fight scenes were a cut above but for me the best (and briefest) was his fight with Draco's men when he was being escorted to the latters office.

    I read an article one time in which a post Bond Lazenby was out for dinner with a girlfriend (I think he was in Australia) when a chap picked a fight with him. George broke his jaw.

    Interesting. Nice to know George has those skills for real life situations too! The Lazenby is not to be messed with!

    Yes apparantly he is a tough egg in real life as well...which of course you can tell because of the easy way he handles himself in the fight scenes as Bond.

    Laz was so good in his actions sequences and especially the fights. The scene in Tracy's hotel room, later at Draco's hideout when he got into it with three of Union Corse thugs and the fights on the ski slopes. and of course that wild and thrilling fight on that beach in the PTS
    he was one bad Mother.......

    If I had to pick my favorite it would be the PTS fight. the way he handled that big guy and the knife carrying punk was very good and thrilling.
    The sounds, the fast cut editing, the way the guys were tossed and tumbling about that entire scene was so thrilling.

    Yes, very nice to know it wasn't all acting. Lazenby was a real diamond in the rough.

    The fight amomg the bells is also outstanding. You just can t beat Lazzie when it comes to physical action.

    Also the way he uses his ski to keep the Spectre agent ,on the edge of the cliff,and then throws him off the edge....that is so Bond.

    Yes, that's another favourite of mine! Lazenby certainly knocks ten bells out of them!

    It was the way Lazenby would be a dirty fighter,in the hotel room he uses his elbow and whatever it takes to win....so under-rated.

    Craig is a prettt damn good fighter.
    The crane/chase sequence in Casino Royale still gets me every time.
    There's that shot of the two soldiers coming at him and he takes them both out at the same time.. The Hinx fight!
    So badass. I say top three,

    Blimey @CASINOROYALE ,Craigs Bond got his arse kicked by Hinx..i dont think any of the Bond's could beat him after being surprised like that...

    In my opinion Bond should always be a "dirty" fighter—not to the point of being downright nasty and making the audience squirm uncomfortably, but headbutts, knee and elbow strikes, doing whatever it takes. Unless of course they're going for a comical tone like Craig's Victorian boxing stance in Skyfall or Moore's slow-motion karate chops and headlocks.

    Exactly,that is why GL's Bond just does what it takes to survive...so annoying we never had im in DAF...that could have been awesome...

    Hey it was releastic, look at Bond fighting Jaws. Bond can't always beat everyone right away, Someone Craig's size could ever beat a guy that big let's be real. Bond dispatched if him in the most Bondian way possible! Every Bond has gotten his ass kicked at some point but Craig's Bond has done some pretty badass fighting.

    I love my annual OHMSS viewing. The film, being based around Christmas, is great at this time of year. Everything said on this thread is spot on, George was certainly great in the fights and if I had one wish to change one thing from the whole series it would be to go back to 1969 and tell him to stop listening to his idiotic friends and do more Bonds.
