Bond girls costume and styling thread

I searched and searched but I couldn't find a thread like this on the forum, so sorry if it's a duplicate. If so, please tell me and I'll delete it (or the mods could do that, of course. :) ) It's just that I couldn't find a questions forum anywhere to ask if there already was a topic like this.

Anyway, I'm not sure if there's many fellow Bond-fans who are interested to talk about this (tell me if it's redundant or just a plain stupid idea and I will delete this discussion!), but this thread is aimed at more superficial things related to Bond, namely the costumes/styling/etc. of Bond girls. I'm not opposed to talking about other characters' costumes as well, but I suspect there might already be a different topic for that.

So yeah, not to sound silly but I wonder if anyone has seen those Bond girl makeup films from Pixiwoo (I think that's how you spell it) on Youtube? :D

I always envied each one of Solitaire's costumes in Live and Let Die.

Yes, Solitaire rocks any attire she wears. My personal favourite is her red dress she wears on Kananga's island.
Apparently, her tarot dress inspired Queen Amidala's red dress in The Phantom Menace.

I like all of Tracy Bond's costumes, including the white dress she wears at the casino and, of course, her wedding pantsuit.

The black dress Tiffany Case wears as she talks to "Franks" in her Amsterdam apartment is also another personal favourite.

You would love the Designing Bond exhibition that is traveling the world. Its chalk full of Bond girl dresses and costumes - the real items too for the most part, along with a few replicas.
Most of the articles were behind glass but not all. I actually reached out and touched Anya's evening gown from TSWLM.
    Solitaire's costume was on display.

This room might be your favourite, the casino room, which had lots of dresses displayed on mannequins resembling the original characters.
That's the actual Jill St. John pantsuit from DAF, and yes of course I did briefly touch it, along with anything else I could discreetly and civilly get my paws on.

Our longstanding member, @Sandy, has shared some of the Bond makeup films I think (may or may not be remembering that correctly).

I don't mind having a Bond girl style thread. Suits me. ;;)

Which Bond girls' style do I really like? I have to think that over.
    But I'll start with:

Natalya - I know her computer programmer outfit is rather modest, but I love her white bikini and wrap on the beach with Bond.

Tania - Her wardrobe during all of FRWL is classic early 60's and she wears it well.

Anya - her really simple but beautiful midnight blue dress is a very memorable one. I love it! (I think the guys probably enjoy her body hugging red cut-out, wrap outfit that she wears through her capture by Stromberg through the entire finale, too.)

Melina - I like her entire wardrobe in FYEO so very much. Clean lines, linen, natural fabric, fits her perfectly. I think her style is very appealing.

Vesper - Really beautifully dressed. When she meets Bond on the train, and especially the gorgeous gown for the casino; heck, while sailing on the boat, too - I love this character's style throughout the whole film.

I'll add more later. And some I don't like but think are appropriate for the character (like Xenia's crazy wardrobe in GE).

No, I liked that dress, although I won't complain about the body suit.
Women look great in evening gowns, and Bach's midnight blue is one of the most glamourous not to mention slinkiest, I have ever seen. She owns the screen in that thing, and like I said, I actually did touch it. It's got a sheer feel to it, like its made of satin or something. Not your run-of-the-mill fabric.

Here's the actual Bach dress display along with Rog's desert get-up

Oh thanks for the pic! It is one of my favorite Bond girl dresses ever.

Thats it preserved and on display, 36-37 years after the fact.
Yes, I think its the ultimate Bond girl dress.
  • Apparently those skimpy bathingsuits Domino wears were actually designed by herself. Does anybody know if there´s any truth to that?

I'm looking on the internet but have not found info on that yet.

    However, I did find this:
Costume designer Lindy Hemming on clothesonfilm website:

" ... with Daniel Craig’s trunks from Casino Royale (2006) being a nod to Sean Connery’s pale blue poplin pair worn in Thunderball (1965)\"

Aha! I did not know his swim trunks were a nod to that. (Bond info, not Bond girl, I know, but I just wanted to post it ...)

I always loved Pussy's outfits, but I never hear anyone talk about them too much. Octopussy's robe is probably my favorite Bond-related costume. Also love Tracy's wedding attire! Another question (that comes with no sexual connotations), who had the best bikini? Goodnight's is my favorite, it's so colorful. Of course, Honey's is legendary.

I love Pussy's outfits, too. Especially the purple shirt and trousers she wears in the barn.
  • Those Bond exhibition pictures are great! I had no idea it was traveling the world. In fact, I just looked it up and it's coming to the Netherlands next month so thanks a lot, I will definitely check it out! :D

I'll to see if it heads to Asia. :) I did not know it was a traveling exhibit either. Good to know!

Bikinis ... I like Honey's best for sure. Then I like Natalya's and Tiffany's next best. Goodnight, Naomi, and Jinx's are just okay. At this moment, I cannot think of another bikini by a main or significant supporting character - not counting all the high heel wearing lovelies at the pool in FYEO. I'd add Melina's but I am remembering it covered with a t-shirt; was it covered the whole time?

One piece - Domino's for sure is my favorite.

Rosie and Kissy also wore bikinis!

Okay, thanks. Yes, and now that I think of it, those go in my not so memorable column.

Brit Ekland bikini is my favourite. We got full mileage out of that outfit.
Jill St John lounging about at Blofeld's rig is my second favorite
Ursula Andress takes third place, but gets first place vote for most iconic bikini character.

What a great idea for an elimination game. Best Bond girl bikini!

Halle Berry's orange bikini is prominently displayed at the traveling Designing Bond show too!

    I also forgot Jill!

  • I quite liked Solange´s bikini as well. The mint green contrasted nicely with Caterina Murino´s tan. Too bad you only get to see a glimpse of that costume.

That black cut-out bathingsuit that Claudine Auger wears in Thunderball is absolutely outreagous, and even though it´s a bit tacky, I just love it because it suits her so well.

    I forgot about Solange's! Also, I really like Andrea's black one-piece.
