  • Not surprised, sad news made sadder by the way he and the media handled things. So many articles about his come back with expectations far too high and only very recently has he toned down the expectations. He kept coming back to 250 and 500 events …
  • It's interesting that, if you look at the lists all over the web regarding the best and worst of the Bond main villains, the slight actors come off worst and there is also the issue of age (or lack of it) and this does bring some gravitas. (MR an ex…
  • You can be creepy and child like. I agree, I do see the creepyness but is that enough? Creepy is more like a scooby doo villain (sorry to bring that in again), I think we need more than creepy.
  • I think he could have enormous fun playing a second in command, off the scale dark and bonkers, meeting a nasty end but please not a the main villain. There is a child like , vulnerabilty about him that would not work.
  • Someting I think we saw in SP was the fact that you are asking much of a "slight" actor to play a role where he is a genuine threat to Bond . IMHO, the villain must pose a threat and a big guy projects that threat via their physicality (even if they…
  • Anyone watch "An Uncivil War" on Channel 4 tonight?
  • bondjames wrote: » The fundamental issue I have with the acknowledgement of time and continuity, in the interests of giving a visiting actor an 'arc', is that it increases the risk of issues and problems with the next iteration. That is what has p…
  • Sorry to bring up MI again but the recent interviews with McQ show how very, very late they were in developing/completing the script for Fallout. However, I would rather have a script that was being created at the last minute (directed by the same g…
  • Another vote for Thief, often overlooked, a hidden gem.
  • @DrClatterhand Spot on. There is just no sign of passion/positivity. It's as of the next Bond movie is like pulling a tooth rather than a fantastic, collaborative experience.
  • Sade would have been just perfect for Bond...good call
  • It seems our guesses were correct in that we have a character (like many Westerns) who had found "peace, love, belonging, family"...for it to be taken away. Can't wait.
  • @matt_u Fair points (nobody can say the DC era has not given us much material to debate!). My own take is that SF is about Bond's own role within the organisation. It's his own situation that's focusssed on, his own doubts (re aging and the lack of …
  • Thin or stuffed crust? https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jan/03/brexit-freight-ferry-firm-appears-all-geared-up-to-deliver-pizzas
  • @bondjames establishing Moneypenny and M right at the very end of a movie is perfect when DC is returning but makes little sense when the audience will never see them together again. Leaving the role of M open and Moneypenny to confrim her desk job …
  • @bondjames How many Bond movies are discussed in terms of "it was good/great but it should have been made/released later" ? If the next Bond does not end and improve on the rooftop scene from SF ("hate to waste a view"), then (for me) , that is how …
  • @barryt007 It's not only that but Bond's character within the movies also changes and these don't reflect any long term trend. It's interesting that, for the DC era, they chose to show the beginning of his career. (therefore, a timeline begins). Onc…
  • IF you are going to have a central character that has depth, emotion and a conventional character arc, then it also makes sense to have an over reaching arc that covers the era. (Logan was a good example of how that arc can reap benefits both at the…
  • Birdbox (2018) Great potential but rather a let down. As with many sc-fi movies, the ending was pretty poor.
  • https://soundcloud.com/user-552949050 Rivetting for any MI fan (so rare for a screenwriter to be so open, honest and helpful) and his passion for movies comes through so clearly.
  • Wow, that puts Cruises career into perspective. Just look at the talent that he has worked with re top flight directors.
  • I wonder if Bond fans have previously researched whether there is a correlation (negative or positive) between the quality of the script and number of contributors. My gut reaction is that a good script is the vision of one writer rather than a big …
  • I love the way McQuarrie is so open about the creative process and happy to share the highs and lows of getting to the end result. Thanks for the link
  • I agree that Pegg has overstayed his welcome, I think he's had a fair run (opportunity for a death and revenge plot? rather than another nuke?) There is clearly room for a young gun but casting would be crucial. Nobody really comes to mind. Ironi…
  • Yes, there is a stitch. It's a great example of subtle CGI: not getting on the way of a great scene and not being taken out of the movie.
  • @bondjames Have to agree with that first observation. You can't remove these movies from your memory (I wish I could). SP did no favours to any of these three talented actors. Such a shame
  • Yes, and contrast that with the Fallout clip where it is (or tries to be) one continuous shot with no cuts so you actually feel exhausted plus you get a much better feel of the geography of the run. I know there has been some healthy debate re MI…
  • @DaltonCraig007 I think there is so much packed into the film that it's only when you view individual scenes that you fully appreciate the work. The camera work/angles/movement on the above running clip alone is superb.
  • @peter Glad you enjoyed it, far better than the average shallow review IMHO To add to your point, don't forget, the choices made create the character. As an action movie, there is not much room for long, slow, dialogue based scenes to investigate…
  • But Madeleine is returning so is there a danger that the melodrama from SP is inherited within the new film?
