So you want to start a new Elimination game?

Elimination games... We've known them since the old days and they can be quite a bit of fun. BUT - why must there always be a but? - they can grow numerous so rapidly that they flood the forum in no time. Hence: some rules.

MI6Community Elimination Games Forum Rules

1) General rules

1.1 Only two games shall be kept active at any time.

To make sure that no confusion arises after the final vote in an active game is given, a moderator will give the green light for a next game in the So you want to start a new Elimination game? thread.

1.2 Every member gets to vote only once per day and per game. A member shall always type the day of voting before the list. E.g. "Monday vote".

Childish behaviour, including using multiple accounts or voting more than once per day, will soon cause the offender to be expelled from the game and possibly from all games now and in the future. Note: having multiple accounts is a general violation of this forum's rules and will result in a permanent ban.

1.3 A single vote means both a +1 and -1 operation on the elimination list.

In time, this may change for a game. See below (3.1) for more on this subject.

2) How to avoid incorrect votes and what to do in case of incorrect votes

2.1 If a member feels like voting, he or she shall post "working on it" or something similar. The member can then edit this post, paste the most recent list in it and vote. This way, the member is ensured that his or her vote fits voting continuity.

2.2 It is preferable that the game's host corrects incorrect votes, but of course he or she can't be around all the time. We must urge all members to only correct votes on the basis of mathematical errors. If you assume that another member has voted using a duplicate account, please flag but don't randomly ignore or delete a given vote. The latter will mess up the continuity of voting.

In case voting gets out of hand, please flag or contact a mod via PM. A game may be temporarily frozen while things are investigated.

3) Cutting Vote Totals

3.1 In the final stage of a game, when only a few contestants are left, games tend to drag on endlessly and with more irritation among members who'd like to see the thing come to an end fast. In order to prevent random action that causes more friction amongst participating members, a moderator may decide to cut the vote totals in half, or to reset them to their original numbers.

If you feel that such a cut is needed, please PM a moderator.

4) How to decide which game is played next

4.1 Following the example of the Friday Salute thread, when a new game has to be chosen, a quick survey will be held in the So you want to start a new Elimination game? thread. The game that gets chosen the most, can then be hosted by the person who suggested it first.

Please let us all be mature about this. If your game doesn't get played now, it may get played next time. Also, if no agreement can be reached, a moderator will make the call.

5) Final comments

Remember: it's only a game. Let's not waste too much anger or energy on it. Members who fail to play these games by the rules, make a bit of a fool of themselves. Also, the fun should be in playing and seeing which actor or film or car or ... wins, not in hosting the game. So when the survey is held, please help to build a majority fast. Everyone will get their turn. As with the Friday Salute thread, we try to give all participating members a chance at hosting a game.

Thank you.

Here are all the possible ideas I can think of (feel free to claim them at will):

Bond actors (start with 30 points each)
    Bond girls (10)
    Bond title songs (10)
    Bond soundtracks (10)
    Bond composers (20)
    Bond directors (20)
    Bond allies (10)
    Bond novels (20)
    Felix Leiters (30)
  • ...So wait, you mean I can't start my "james bond tuxedo elimination game"? This is an outrage.

You don't need this but I will do my usual thing:

    ;)

    Good rules @DarthDimi.

I'd even say when news comes in, none are needed as they can get tiring and we don't want a never ending string of the things. They are great to pass the time but that is all.

And it seems, that within hours of this thread being created, a new elimination game has been set up!

Not even newly created, but it still irks me that the work from another elimination game was entirely copied over without any credit given!

Well, hopefully it will be closed soon. It also annoys me because it's people who don't not follow relatively simple guidelines that spoil the fun for others.

@MayDayDiVicenzo, absolutely. I'm sure it'll be closed and can be re-opened in the future when one of the Elimination games ends, but it just bothers me that he copied someone else's words and gave zero credit, quotes, or thanks.

I want to formally enter my idea for a game into this thread which controls elimination games. I started the game here:
    http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/9339/the-great-bond-actor-elements-game#Item_15
but I'll just give a brief overview here.

The object is to classify each of the 6 Bond actors as being either the Coolest, the Sexiest, the Smartest, the Classiest, the Toughest, or the Handsomest. It will work by having each actor start out with the same number of points in each category, and it will be the job of the voters to subtract one point from each element, and add one point to each element for different actors on each turn. Once an actor reaches a pre-set number of points in one element, he will have won that element, and the score there will be locked-in. So lets say that Sean is the first one to reach a maximum score in the 'Tough' element. What that would mean is that in consecutive votes, players could no longer add to any of Sean's elements because each actor may only control one element, thus the reason that there is one for each actor. Voters could only subtract from Sean's non-Tough points and add them to other actors non-Tough elements because they will all have lost the Tough element and must vie for another.

I realize that it's complicated but I'm eager to give it a go, and as soon as one of the other elimination games finishes, (if they ever do) I hope that this game is given serious consideration to be next.

There is already a plain actor game in waiting. I propose a PTS elimination game after the previously suggested games are done. In 2020 or thereabouts.

I propose the end, the domination of Silicon Valley.

Oh I am sorry, I thought this was the "So you want to start a new world domination" thread.

    Haha =))

Also, because of my affinity for Bond girls, might I run the Bond girls elimination game, when people want to play it?

@WillyGalore, we agreed never to mention our plans prior to executing them.
    Now go get Heller!

    Relax, I'm waiting for Dario.

Anyway, we will keep these elimination games under control. That Great Flood of elimination games we suffered through a few years ago taught us a very valuable lesson...

Correct, @WillyGalore. Like Hunger Games with MI6 members. Trolls go first, can we please agree on that?

Those English gangsters are no laughing matter. There are 11 games waiting. 12 if you count the Silicon Valley game.
