I would never have imagined Dominic Cooper as Fleming! More like Tom Hidlestone or Michael Fassbender to me. Let's see how it goes.

I can't help thinking of him in "Mamma Mia!"

It's very hard to imagine him play Sir Ian.
I'(d prefer him Sam Neill. A good actor we all know in Spielperg's "Jurrassic Park" but also in McTiernan's" THe Hunt For Red October", alongside Robin Williams in "The Bicentennial Man", in "The Horse Whisperer"... He has a quite good career indeed !

Or Lambert Wilson who is a classy one too. I don't cast yet as a younger Ian.

Sam Neill is amazing but let's face it, he's too old for it!

By the way and talking about McTiernan, did you know he is really going to serve time in jail over that silly wiretap case.

As long as he's out in time to direct the final Die Hard, all is good.

The guy looks absolutely nothing remotely like Fleming. Very bad casting, which is not a good start.

Cooper's a good actor. I'll be interested to see how this turns out. But this has nothing to do with the Duncan Jones project correct?

    I don't believe it is.

UPDATE: Deadline has now revealed that Snow White and the Huntsman and The Tudors star Annabelle Wallis has been cast as 'Muriel Wright', "a woman with whom Fleming had a love affair and who some believe to be the original inspiration for the Bond Girl."

  • No wonder now why Bond is an aficionado of gadgets: he was created by Tony Stark's dad lol :)) Anyway, can't wait to see it. Dominic Cooper is a great actor. I saw him at The Devil's Double and I thought he was terrific. The role could be done with justice, thank goodness.

That will be, what, the third or fouth time there's been a biopic on Ian Fleming ? Let's see, I remember the one with Jason Connery, the one with Ben Daniels. Apparently, there has been one with Charles Dance, one with Michale Lomenda, and one with Jonathan Pryce too (now, that's a coincidence). And according to the IMDB, he appears also in a dutch miniseries about prince Bernhardt from the Netherlands (played by Skip Goeree) and in Any Human Heart, played by Tobias Menzies. Quite an impressive list already.

I don't see much Fleming in Dominic, but we'll see how things go. I would love to see Benedict Cumberbatch have a go at Fleming, he'd be great.

Interesting cast I must say. I'm still not sure Cooper can work as Fleming, I think it's the eyes.

Love seeing Lara Pulver on this list. I can see her playing the kind of woman that attracts Fleming. I agree about Cooper as well, being that I see no connection to Fleming in him at all. I think Benedict Cumberbatch would have been a much better choice, but we'll see soon enough.

Collider were about to ask Dominic Cooper the all important question in a recent interview:

How daunting and nerve-wracking is it to take on the role of Ian Fleming for the BBC America mini-series that you’re doing?

COOPER: It’s terrifying. I’m in the middle of it now. What gives me some sense of relief is that I’m portraying the man that he saw himself as, which is how I suppose he perceived James Bond. Yes, we have got these wonderful biographies about this man, and we have fantastic scripts. But, instead of me feeling under immense pressure to recreate a man who did all these wonderful things and did exist, we’re making a different version of him, in a way, since I don’t look anything like him, for a start, that will be terribly exciting for an audience to watch because of the things he did in his life and the things that he achieved, with regard to the secret service and the war effort, and then he went on to write those books which led to the most successful franchise in film, ever. There’s a lot going on with him. It’s really complex. It’s very, very daunting, yes. Every day, I think, “Wow, I hope people like my version of this man.”

They need to get Geoffrey Rush to play Fleming soon!

You are so right! I have thought the same many times. Rush as older Fleming and Fassbender as younger Fleming (but not Bond ;) ).

Dominic Cooper is a decent choice to play Fleming. But I wish Geoffrey Rush was casted as Ian Fleming. Rush would have been a better choice.

Yes ! Geoffrey Rush, of course ! Unforgettable in "The King's Speech", "The Tailor of Panama". I thought about Sam Neill but Rush is a better choice.

I wish they would incorporate flashbacks into this biopic so we could get an older Fleming played by Rush. I want to be a director just to hire him and make this film happen; he is perfect for this!

You're right but on the other hand, that doesn't upset me too much and nor will it keep me from watching the series.
