Well, back 10 years ago then, DAD was the movie of the 40's anniversary of Bond. So, this year, comes Skyfall, as the 50th's anniversary.
at 40th's, DAD sucked and was considered worst Bond movie ever (as you guys says) and has the worst critics ever on 007 films.

So i ask you guys, may SF get that same curse? Could the movie suck as same as DAD, because of the anniversary's thing?

Every Bond film after DAD has "sucked", no matter the year. Hopefully Skyfall won't.

Of course not. Mendes has a brain, and doesn't want to ruin the franchise with half baked ideas and little easter eggs. Up yours Tamahori.

DAD- 40th Anniversary sucked for a number of reasons
they were too obscessed with the 40 thing and trying to shove in reminders to the other films-
Tamohari was a blind fool and idiot and should not have helmed a Bond film
The stupid gadgets ie, invisible car and that silly wind surfing scene
They force feeding us Halle Berry who stunk up most of the film
And to top it off, Brozzo looked like shytt

I don't think SF will be bad. I think Babs and Mikey learned their lesson and they won't repeat their mistakes with that trainwreck DAD.

    I second 0BradyM0Bondfanatic7:
    UP YOURS TAMAHORI

It's a pity that DAD were bad, because Halle Berry is not a bad actress.

    Actually, she resoundingly is.

With the people helming this film all round? I cannot see a repeat of this happening! Everything about this movie tells me that they are not gonna make the mistakes of 10 years ago.

They want to make a modern stand alone Bond movie! No gimmicks!
  • I don't watch much of her other work (Berry) but here she was abysmal, I felt like punching holes in the wall sometimes whenever she was screen, she was that frustrating or annoying even.

We still don't know how much reference will be made to past adventures later this year, for the love of god I hope they steer clear of before (2002) where there was little bits of past experiences here and there. OK it's the 50th year, we are all aware but there's really no need to have more past acknowledgements rammed down our throats, I sincerely hope they cut all that out. I don't think these things are a curse, it only happened the once, there was no such thing for the 25th anniversary with Daylights. Not a curse with Die Another Day, it was simply a crap James Bond film, with wrong director, wrong Bond, wrong cast members, wrong music artist, and in retrospect, ill advised references to past outings. The 50th anniversary HAS to be better

I stopped reading there... Brosnan was not a "wrong Bond". The MOVIE was wrong.

DAD did not suck, it could have been better but was not so incredible sh*te as the last 007 adventure QoS which has by now been disowned even by DC.

I am still very surprised by the choices of Tamahori who did make som excellent movie before DAD. He not unlike Forster is not that good with actioners and makes strange choices.

Mendes is an excellent director and we shall find out how his action will turn out. He is not know for his actionmovies. So in that aspect I am a littlke worried.
  • Obviously I meant Brosnan was inadequate for this release, should of stepped down after The World Is Not Enough, obviously. He was good for the most part before Die Another Day. It was just another determining factor in an overall poor release

I VERY much doubt SF will be another DAD for the reasons stated above.

They will probably make a similar movie to DAD at the 60th or 70th anniversary. everything is cyclical or recyclible where bond is concerned.

Films similar to DAD, 60s YOLT 70s MR 80's AVTAK 00's DAD 10's or 20's we are bound to get another abomination.

Guess u didn't get the point...
The point is, if the Curse of DAD being a bad movie, could affect Skyfall too, because they are "anniversary" movies.

    =))

I agree. 80% of the problem was Lee Tamahori who got it wrong on so many different levels and thought he was making a Carry-On film with cgi.

15% was Purvis and Wade. 5% was Halle Berry.

We've already covered this in threads at least three times. I'll find them and post the links here because, quite frankly, we don't need another one.

Plus I'm sure many members have already shared their views on this elsewhere.

Also, one film does not make a "curse". Just look at the talent that is part of Skyfall compared to Die Another Day...
  • Steve is right, in fact It should of been called 'Dyson' another Day, it sucked so much

Listening to parts of the audio commentary LT sounds like a fanboy. "Phoarr yeah the villain got chopped up" (referring to Grave's death at the end).

Also, unlike SF, it seemed that they sort of made up DAD as they went along. The FRWL rip off in the hotel room for instance (I've actually never been too fussed about that scene) was thought up the night before.

There are more on this topic and I'll find them because I'm getting sick of the "anniversary pattern" curse. It doesn't exist! *bangs head against wall*

Die Another Day is a thousand times better than Qantum of Solace

Die Another day fails because of the following:

It was trying to hard to fit with american audiences (Halle Berrys Casting)
it tried to incorperate so much continuity and cheesyness from other eras
there was too much CGI (gunbarrel, windsurf, the invisible car) and product placement

Die Another day did alright for the first half until i think the middle of the iceland sequence it was really promising, there is so much to like about DAD if you look at it from a diffrent perspective: it was the first modern day bond film, brosnan's finest peformance, it is the true adaption of the moonraker novel, Miranda Frost was mighty fine- shame that she was indeed a villian and did die and Zao was indeed a cool henchman and

DAD make's us thankfull bond started in the 60s. if DAD was the first or second movie made, not sure the series would have survived. i genuinely felt after DAD the series had come to an end more diabolical than any blofeld plot to take over the world.

Sorry, i actually didn't know that had another THREE threads. So i guess u should close this lol

    Anyway...
    002 wrote:

Actually, of what i know of, Moonraker is totally different from DAD... and the one which looks CLOSER to it is Nightfire.
Firstly, i know Bond is on the space, at MR. No space in DAD.
  • @fire_and_ice ,Obviously if DAD had been done in 1963/64 with Connery it would of been chalk and cheese from Brosnan's last entry for all and many ways I don't need to elaborate on, needless to say the series would of continued, it would of been a damn sight better back then with an able Sean than a flagging Brosnan, no CGI overloads or Madonna either. May have been something to see

Last word on this as I'm sure there are similar thread territories to this now but Brosnan's last appearance really was lame, I don't know how people can defend it, so many problems in different areas, NOTHING TO DO WITH CURSES, it was just a load of poor parts put together and for everybody involved, the sum total was a nightmare for most people who have seen it and being honest
  • @Baltimore_007. Was not totally clear, Meant if the series had started in 2002 with DAD.

    In what way??

I agree it's got some great ideas and some great individual scenes but it's lost amongst the cgi and the desire to please every demographic.
