Now that Spain is mentioned, I'd have loved to see Bond at Alhambra.

@peter, thanks for all the info ;)

Cadiz was used to fake Cuba in DAD, if I recall correctly. Lovely town, BTW. Keep us posted, my friend.

Oh, and so Africa probably stayed from the old script, right?

Wasn't that yet to be released Heineken ad filmed in Spain?

Interesting stuff, @peter. Any reason as to why they're looking to shoot in Cádiz instead of Tunisia? Both places offers some great scenery, one would imagine.

Edit: Watching a Top Gear special on the telly now, and they introduced a segment in Norway with music from OHMSS. Nice.

This guy wouldn’t know anything about specific scripts (but knows how badly the Boyle relationship was; it was bad. No doubt we dodged a bullet)

Yes, my feelings exactly. Thanks again for all the info and positivism.

Good question and I asked: he said Cadiz is dirt cheap to shoot in, ravaged by the recession. Tunisia is dangerous. Full stop. And more expensive.

That makes sense. Shame Tunisia is considered too dangerous now. I have several friends that have vacationed there before. Lovely place apparently (when safe, obviously).

Rami Malek is of Egyptian descent and Said Taghmaoui is of Moroccan descent. Both places are very close to Tunisia. Could be a coincidence, but maybe not. Perhaps this suggests Malek is in fact the guy.

Do you know anthing more? It's quite interesting how quickly EON's relationship with Boyle deteriorated. Did they have big disagreements about the script?

Seems very unlikely now as Mr Robot is due to begin filming one week prior to Bond 25

Interesting morsels in terms of the location news.

That really depends on his number of scenes on the film. And some well oiled logistics. If I was him, I'd take it. I'd make it work with Sam Esmail. After all, if he is truly a friend of Malek he'd want him to have that kind of big break.

It's nothing I hadn't said before panchito; this guy is reinforcing what he had told me before (and what CS had heard before that), that this split was obviously not amicable. He was fired. Specifically, he and Barbara were oil and water almost out of the hop (according to this source). The way he explained it to me is this: they own the film franchise. They have a vision for their character. Danny Boyle wanted to make radical changes to the character (he didn't get into what they were, just that the response was "yeah, no thanks."). It sounded like whatever "golden idea" was in this story (and I still believe there was a golden idea-- I just don't know what it is), the story itself was "not a James Bond" story, as was told to me today.

Saying all of that, whether they shoot in Cadiz, or some other city like it, the "North African" location I thought came from very early drafts? Someone remember?

I knew nothing of Cadiz until I get home and started to google pics. Interesting, and I had no idea DAD used it as well (so a place they're comfortable with).

Maybe it will just be Spain, London & pinewood dressesd up as somewhere else. This one must have very little action , I believe a major action set piece should have been rumored/leaked by now

Thanks. I guess we will have to wait and see if Malek is a go or not.

PS: Tunisia has a lot of neat castles, somewhat similar to ones in Spain and also similar to the one at Cardona where Craig filmed that Heineken ad in May of 2018.

This is key when it comes to whether or not Boyle should've done B25. If the idea's execution doesn't feel like a Bond story, it shouldn't be done no matter how prestigious the director is.

Like some of said we dodged a bullet with Boyle.

I think they know how much the last film got out of hand, the last thing they want is that happening again.

    Thanks @peter

Take the following as you will.
Gregg Wilson has been doing heavy location scouting. Yes, Gregg has been, and is with the location team as I write this.
So far definite no to Canada.
My guy knows nothing of Norway either.
But says they have been heavily working on locations in a south-west town in Spain that will stand in for Tunisia (a country in North Africa)
This town in Spain is called :
    Cadiz.
Also there will be alot of work at Pinewood.

I will be having further meetings with this gent (on a project that I’m working on).

Does he know anything about casting, for Bond? Best of luck on your project by the way!

As I just explained to some guys on this site, when I'm chatting to this guy (and I saw pics of him with Gregg on the set of SP), I have my geek on. Over fifteen minutes, this is how our conversation went re: Bond:

I started off asking how Gregg and the baby were. This led into location coz he tells me Gregg has been leading this charge. Which led to me asking about Norway and Canada. Which he arbitrarily started talking about a new Bond actor IF this is indeed DC's last one. I asked him what he knew about this being DC's last one, or is he coming back. he swears he doesn't know, but wouldn't be surprised if he did one more. Which led to a discussion about a "list" of candidates. Which led to discussions about Boyle, Barbara and "The Firing". Which led to the first time he met Barbara formally (at Gregg's wedding a few years ago), and what kind of person she is (warms, gracious and lovely).

P.S. I kicked myself about not asking about Malek

What is very baffling and weird is that EON did not realize Boyle wanted to make radical changes to the character before he was hired. After he was hired, Boyle did say that he did not expect EON would go for their idea, in fact he was surprised, indicating that he did not keep his radical ideas a secret from EON before he got hired.

My guess is that Boyle presented a plot point idea that EON found intriguing but when shown the completed script, they found it un-Bondian.

He may have had a specific, focused, idea that while different, appealed to EON ; this and the opportunity to acquire a “ prestigious” director a led to his hiring. Once hired though, the extent of his radically different vision became apparent and that led to his release.
My question is, did Boyle keep his true vision under wraps, with the hope that once hired he could make the film he wanted to make?

Also, I wonder what would have happened had Daniel Craig sided with Boyle.
